Such sad news and as someone who has only recently become a dad I can't imagine the pain he and is family must be going through. My thoughts are with you, your wife and family.

Cultural differences spreading further south
um pahars replied to holepuncture's topic in The Lounge
Where did anyone say this behaviour is acceptable in "their" culture or country??? -
Despite his protestations to the contrary, he has his eye on the leadership & consequently I think you have to look carefully at what he is saying to discern as to whether its (a) genuine or (b) a play to the audience. Like some of the things he has said on education (rigour, high standards, no excuses etc) and particularly like his recruitment/training push with regards Social Workers (Frontline). However, I do fear that most of his bigger picture stuff is influenced both by his own narrow experiences at school, coupled with a desire to be saying the "right" thing to impress the Mail and a narrow right wing in order to bolster his own popularity.

Would be disappointed if Cortese left, he's certainly been the driving force behind our resurgence in recent years and will be a tough act to follow. But that said, big names, be they managers, players, coaches, whatever, have come and gone over the years and I'm sure we'll get by. He'll have to go at some point (our future does not end at the same time as his departure, whenever that may be), and whilst I be disappointed his tenure might be cut short, SFC will not come to a halt with his departure. How about being really ambitious and get David Gill in who has just left United????

We are 100% safe, as if Wigan beat Villa then we will finish above Villa.

Done with a game to spare, very pleased. Saturday can now be a day of relaxation and enjoyment. May target for the year was purely survival so more than happy. For next season would take a mid table Swanseaesque position.

Forest away in the 84 Cup Run. Mackerel being waved around, Moran scoring (again), escorted out of Loughborough and booking a game with Portsmuff in the next round.

At this rate UK Gold will have nothing to broadcast!

SAINTS 0-3 West Bromwich Albion // Post-Match Reaction
um pahars replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Steve Clarke had us sussed and playing with three up top meant we just couldn't handle the their forwards. They won most of the midfield battles and their defence kept Lambert and Rodrigues at bay. In short, beaten by a better team, who were better set up. Didn't help ourselves with some very below par performances. -
I agree, you only have to go back to Rodrigues diving, Dyer's thieving etc to see how we end up with selective morals (and most clubs fans are the same). But back to Suarez, if Liverpool have any pride they should ban him internally before the FA get to him.

Fair play to them and Eddie Howe has done a magnificent job. Always impressed with what he says and how he carries himself. hope they enjoy next season

I was at Upton Park (was it the game that Phil Parkes took out Danny Wallace and was about to be sent off only off the Lino to give offside??). Tannoy announcer was updating at half time and at end of game saying game delayed due to crowd trouble and at least one dead. Most on the terrace assumed fighting and perhaps a stabbing, and was only when in car on A13 heading out of London that we started to hear the accounts on the radio. Really subdued drive home, remembering how we were stood on the same terrace 5 years earlier in a Cup Qtr Final (smoke bombs and mackerel). Straight out to the Dog & Duck for a works bash hearing snippets throughout the night as people would arrive late with the latest reports. Sure at one point it was thought to be over 100 deaths. Disgusting that it has taken 20+ years for the truth to come out and just feel so sad for those who lost loved ones and who then had to suffer of being lied to by the establishment.

SAINTS 1-1 West Ham // Post-Match Reaction
um pahars replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Got dragged down to their level and never managed to impose our game on them. Morgan's early yellow (deserved IMHO) meant he seemed to be treading on eggshells. Shaw's absence hampered us down the left, but on the other hand Clyne was good down the right. Without Rodrigues the set up didn't look balanced and don't think Lallana or Ramirez really delivered. Lambert too often on his own. Probably settle for a point, and glad I don't have to watch West Ham every week. It might make for a safe Premiership finish, but feck me they were so awful to watch (wrestling cum rugby). -
In no particular order: West Ham (up there with Spurs as best in London) Newcastle (went out with a Geordie for a bit and welcomed with open arms) Norwich (worked up there and decent bunch) AFC Wimbledon (massive respect for what they have done) Nottingham Forest (a bit of a Clough/Lawrie rivalry and always enjoyed visits) Cardiff (my valley days coming to the fore) Bournemouth Brighton and those who I struggle to get on with: Everton (84 & all that) liverpool (could almost be Everton) Swindon Luton (plastic pitch, knob of a Chairman) Oldham (Andy Ritchie et al) MK Dons Chelsea Aston Villa

Are you sure??? Sure Chope was only a two term MP??? And certainly not denying that for most of her tenure we returned Tory MPs, merely that they both got in with a minority support, which doesn't indicate a groundswell of support from the citizens of our City.
-
But such are the vagaries of our electoral system that no more than a third of the Southampton electorate voted for the candidate of her party. She never achieved a majority support in this City (either of electorate or even simply votes cast)
-
She was no fan of football. She was no fan of the football fan. Her involvement in the Hillsborough cover up demonstrates both these points. Therefore, a football match is not the place to mark her passing. (BTW, has anyone seen the Bernard Ingam letter about Hillsborough - Thatcher's press secretary)
-
You heard it here first, Plan B involves ground share with Brighton if Fratton Park deal falls through.
-
Didn't know the relevance either. Thought it might have been something to to with him leaving or working in the ticket office, but didn't realise they were creaming themselves over a draw LMFAO. Things must be bad if you have to stoop that low for your enjoyment. Expect the bitterness to multiply, just as it did through the decades following 1961 when they effectively disappeared off our radar (feck me, at certain points we had more of a rivalry with Brighton!).

Is extending the ground at the end of next season actually true?
um pahars replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Would be interested to know where the notion that SMS was built with it being easy to expand/ build on to the existing stands came from, as I've never seen it mentioned anywhere apart from snippets on here. I remember SMS being a bit of a gamble at 32k, when Stoneham was around the 24k mark, so can't imagine anyone at the time was ever thinking about 40k+. Granty's correct in that Cowen would regular quote £3k per seat to expand, but he never went in to details about whether tht would be a bolt on to an existing stand or a knock down and rebuild of a stand (or two). Have any of the other BARR grounds been extending upwards??? -
Texted same thing to a mate earlier. Earlier in the season had him down as a bit of a Jim Magilton, but in recent games his pressing, energy and commitment have been a real positive.

Video of fans at Reading (and Nigel Adkins in the away end!!!)
um pahars replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
did you recognise Jimmy H there??? -
But as the old man said, perhaps it has something to do with how teams come down and set out their stall??? then again, we really were sheite against QPR.
-
Thought exactly the same when JWP kept the bal way from Lampard and lobbed it to the ref.Certainly not in awe.

LOL Do you think Tesco's are launching their "The Greatest 1,000 Shelf Stackers" ???
