  1. I'll send you a PM with all the details. The Tuesday night Holt & Haskell Border League is based out of Romsey with all the teams within 8 miles or so.
  2. I got a job working for Goodmans in the early 90s and actually had a great time. Goodmans sponsored Portsmuff at the time and it was the season they got to the semis so they were all pretty boisterous about it. Was about the only person in the warehouse who didn't go!!!! (remember seeing the Portsmuff sponsorship deal and it was something pitiful at the time). Ripped the **** out of them after they all got in late after their penalty shoot out, and ripped them even further when Leicster beat them in the play offs the following year. Took that one a bit far though and remember playing footy for them at Front Lawn, Havant with a Walkers crisp bag taped to my kit. Team mates ok about it, but the locals weren't!!!!!! I think it helped that were in our shadow at the time, so considering our respective fates this season then I think you'll be fone
  3. Well I'm turning out for the young lads this season and I'm 40+ They need a couple of old heads to keep them in check. Are you from the Romsey way??? If soon might know Graham "Ralphy" Collins who runs the Saturday and othe rTuesdayteam. Happy to put you in touch
  4. I was drinking at last seasons charity match that they organised. A couple of really good lads who run this company, big Saints fans who have sponsored matches up SMS over the years who also do a lot of great work for charity and good causes.
  5. Touched a nerve Turk LOL Just being honest in that announcing that you have someone on ignore is in exactly the same category as announcing your leaving a forum. It's a bit hypocritical to knock one, when you've been guilty of the other.
  6. Mottisfont always on the look out for players. Run two teams on a Tuesday night, one pretty good and full of established cricketers, the other full of young lads 18-21 mainly from lordshill/Millbrook who are more relaxed in their approach (all massive Saints fans and if you've been to any away games then i think you'd recognise the younger lot!!!!!). Gemmel who posts on here is the father of the lad who runs the young uns team. You'd probably know a few of the other team as well as well known in Romsey area. Also play Saturday in the Hampshire League.
  7. Have to say that's exactly how I see it. If you want to ignore someone, then scroll past them or if you can't trust yourself then use the ignore feature, but don't go announcing it. It's as bad as announcing you're flouncing off and retiring from forums FFS.
  8. During my extensive travels I the Far East (inc our heyday of 2003!!!) I only ever saw one Saints shirt on sale. It was a knock off in the MBK mall, with "FRIEDS [sic] PROVIDENT" emblazoned on the front. Any talk of millions is La La land, let alone billions. Although we used to get mentioned a bit on ESPN/STAR, particularly Nokia Football Crazy!!!!, as one of the hosts, Andy Penders, was a Saints fan (and think ex youth team player). Don't think that really translated to ££££££ though. As for Newcastle, an odd season in a lower league does not mean we should be using them as any semblance of a yard stick. Their legacy, history, status and standing means they are way ahead of us.
  9. Have to add that "my realistic" position isn't in any way supposed to be a slight on Cortese or what he has achieved as his success is there for all to see. Tremendous stuff and he should be very proud of his achievements. Nor have I got any problem with his ambitions or drive, it's his way of doing things and it has worked to date. It's just that I think to get in to the higher echelons you need ££££££, you have to trade off your history, legacy and level of support etc and I just don't think we'll ever get past the point of ever being more than a provincial team. A sound Premiership one, holding our own and doing us proud, but IMHO we're not going to be a part of the top 4/5/6
  10. If Spurs or Arsenal came sniffing for our talent, offering the mega wonga and the status then im afraid we'll always struggle to hold on to it. It's just the way of the footballing world. And now we have Newcastle being brought in to the argument. Seriously, don't even include them in the same breath as us, they are wayyyyyy ahead of us And what's this about the Asian income??? Go and have a look at the sums the Far East pull in and let me know how much were raking in.
  11. As Norwich have shown along with other "small" clubs like Swansea, Blackpool etc, promotion to the top flight is a challenge bu t something within the grasp of quite a few clubs. Breaking in to the world of Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Etc however is probably a bit more of a challenge.
  12. Quite simply Arsenal, Newcastle and Man City should never be used as an example/justification/model for Saints. We may be in the same League, but we are not in the same league
  13. Cracking story, fair play to the two of them. I'm not sure that some of the players realise the influence and regard they are held in by many in the City. I have long advocated getting the players out in to the community as much as possible. Have to say the Saints Foundation are doing a very good job as well across the City getting out and involved.
  14. 13 points between 3rd and 4th, yet only 10 points between 4th and a relegation spot.
  15. The flare looked impressive from where I was stood, and as others have said the red mist added to the spectacle. The way it enhanced that Lambert picture is absolute quality, it really is a wonderful shot. PS the OP needs to have a rethink (or do some in depth reading and experience games on the continent) as he obviously hasn't got much of an idea or experience about how the Ultras work.
  16. Who will now be paid a large figure as a result of promotion to the top flight, as the original deal had repayment of the outstanding debt becoming crystallised if we went up to the top flight.
  17. Agree with this, if we don't win Saturday then that would be only two wins in last six and not worthy of automatic promotion
  18. That's the difference for me, in that in this passionate, enthralling and exciting game you're always going to have knee jerk reactions and moments of jubilation and frustration (fook me, my missus got out of the room pretty quickly on occasions yesterday!!), but some on here do take it a tad too far (be it Dalek's repetitive finishing 17th trolling to the over negative posts some seem to thrive on). I'll always forgive those posting in moments of highs and lows, fook me if you had seen after West Ham had thumped Brighton, you'd understand!!!!
  19. I actually feel perkier than I did prior to the Palace and Posh games. I thought we had blown it after throwing away points prior to those two, thought we'd struggle away and was pretty piffed off (West Ham winning 4-0 & 6-0 didn't help). It's a real rollercoaster at the moment, full of ups and downs and knee jerks, but I just have a hunch that West Ham won't win tomorrow. Of course if they do, then it will be a few days down in the dumps!!!!!!
  20. It could be like that square in North Korea up at St Mary's!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I make it that if we draw 0-0 with Coventry and West Ham win their last two games by scoring four in total and not conceding, then I make it we're tied on points, goal difference and goals scored!!! (someone check my maths though!!!) How tight is that (we go up though, having a better head to head record). Saints 0-0 West Ham 2-0 & 2-0 we're up Saints 0-0 West Ham 2-0 & 3-1 they're up Saints 1-1 West Ham 2-0 & 3-1 we're up
  22. Indeed and I remember a stat that showed something like 2/3rds of those who plead not guilty at a Crown Court were acquitted, so just because the CPS want to pursue the case is not an indication of guilt (not a slight on the CPS by the way).
  23. I totally agree and would have been happy with consolidating this season (perhaps sniffing at the play offs), BUT having been up there for so long it all seems to be falling apart. Reading's run has been amazing and hats off to them, whilst West Ham have found a semblance of form (and their goalscoring boots!!!!), whereas we have 4 pts on 4 games!!!!! Wrist slitting time for me I'm afraid. AAAAAArrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh
  24. But we also need Bristol City still to be playing for their lives when West Ham play them on Tuesday
  25. Yeah, you're right. I was livid after the Portsmuff game and same again last night. If I had posted last night it would have been wrist slitting stuff. Knee jerk me up, but football is a passionate & emotional game. In our own hands, but we just seem to be limping across the line (although we did play well in parts last night and just got punished by a very clinicalside). Come 5:00 tonight and Brighton have ground out a result and I'll be a happy bunny again. However, if West Ham win then .....................
