Just got a wedding invitation thought the post for the Sunday and confused about what day this match is on. OS says Saturday lunchtime, but aren't these games on a Sunday??!! I'm sure this has been discussed before but couldn't find thread and obviously wasn't affected bait then so didn't read and take in. Cheers

Totally agree Trousers, but my only caveat would be that the timing, given it is embroiled in the middle of one of the most sensitive and important race issues of a generation, meant such a crass comment at this time would have legs. That said, as you say with the Clarkson incident(s), people seem to seek out a reason to be offended and a cause to rally around, whilst others start rubbing their hands with glee as they start use it in a manner to justify their own viewpoint (i.e. the BNP are more than happy to run with this in a perverse manner to justify their own rhetoric). A crass statement, but to declare someone racist, you indeed have to look further thanone crass and clumsy comment and on this regard Abbott has a positive legacy of fighting racism of all counts.

Indeed she is not thick, certainly not in a traditional academic sense anyway. Like BoJo she is academically bright, but prone to gaffes and foot in mouth moments.

I think it was a totally crass statement, regardless of whatever medium it came out on. Generalisations of this kind are just so wrong. Given the timing and her own background she really should have known better. Unsure how it can be seen to have been taken out of context which leads me on to her faux apology. As others have said I despise the apology of "sorry if you've taken it the wrong way". It doesn't mean anything and attempts to pass the blame on to others.

You may genuinely feel that way, but as far as I can tell from all the reporting that is certainly not the case. The death of this young man is central to everything I have seen, heard or read and that is despite the serious repercussions and changes his murder had on our society. Everything else, despite their seriousness is secondary. Now with that I'm out, as being honest I'm not overly comfortable with the tone, direction and gist of some of the posts on this thread. I'm finding it somewhat unedifying.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here (in that I hope it's ignorance on your part and not trying to be cantankerous just for the sake of it, which would be extremely insensitive and disappointing) but I do think you have seriously misjudged all that this case is about. There's a good piece by Michael Mansbridge on the Guardian website, you'd do well to read it (and others): http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jan/03/stephen-lawrence-verdict-society-murderers There's a line in it about why the MacPherson Inquiry felt it was necessary to understand the motivation of the murder and the part racism played in it: "must surely make us all determined that by education, family and community influence, proper policing and all available means society does all it can to ensure that the minds of present and future generations are not allowed to become violent and maliciously prejudiced". In the grand scheme of things the motivation of the racists is central to events and it is crucial to understand how this manifested itself most importantly to try and ensure such henious crimes are not repeated.

Many congratulations fella!!!!!

Well firstly I'm not sure anyone is giving each other cyber high 5s because were convicted of a racist murder. Tempered relief/joy (if that's the right emotion) that justice has finally been seen to be done maybe, but not the excessive jubilation in the way youve described (even if there is still the issue of three others still walking the streets). And I'm not sure anyone has suggested one murder is worse than another, so methinks you might be titling at windmills on both counts. It was a landmark case for many reasons (changing of double jeopardy rule, highlighting institutional racism in the establishment, the myriad of recommendations in the inquiry report etc etc etc), but struggling to understand if you're really that ignorant or instead being somewhat disingenuous with your replies (and honestly not sure what is worse with regards this case).

A human being was killed because he was black. That is the relevance in this instance.
-
Of course it matters why it happened!!! Not least so an attempt might be made to eradicate the environment, motivation and rationale for other attacks.

And be cup-tied!!!!!

I think you're right. It was an obvious response and a symptom of his current frustration with the people, the Club and the area.

I'm just waiting for the spanner to link Lambert's dismissal to the binge drinking session on Boxing Day.

On the negative side this has been brewing for a while with performances and results showing a very worrying slide. We've been threadbare as a squad, at times devoid of ideas and seemed to be running out of steam. On the positive side we're ahead of where I thought we would be this season and are still top of the division. Just hard to take that it seems to be somewhat slipping away from us.

Wouldn't want to be using D'urso as an excuse to hide our own deficiencies. He may be poor, but I doubt he was biased, sounds a bit Brightonish to be moaning too much about the ref. Been poor for a while and need to do something PDQ if we are to arrest the slide.
-
Been saying the same for a while, in that our bench has looked very, very lightweight. When you're resorting to Holmes, Forte and De Ridder to win games then you're going to struggle.

And a very shallow beach given the tides

Very good, makes a change from the Hitler or Bollywood videos and the weird cartoony thing just added to it (along with the weird dubbing). Gave me a little chuckle.

I think social media and an appetite for entertainment, gossip and scandal has meant that it might just be a little bit more headline nowadays, but the idea that it is only a recent phenomenon is somewhat rewriting history. That's not to say I agree with it and considering how much the game has changed (i.e. its become a lot more professional, physically demanding and in turn hugely rewarding) I would much prefer a more considered and responsible approach to alcohol and diet.

I could easily recount tales from Joe Jordan letting rip in the Bedfords, Hurlock going mental in Captains Corner, Agboola getting put on his ar5e outside Boogies, Beattie being being dragged indoors by Davies and escaping a hiding outside his house in Ocean Village, Dyer and BWP getting nicked, McGoaldrought and his amazing flying kebab, Prutton being hurried away and escaping a battering for his letchy ways, Bridge and others giving it the big un in The Lizard Lounge, I won't even repeat what went on in Ayia Napa with half the squad a few weeks after Lampard and Rio were spit roasting girls. The idea that only now do we have a drinking culture is bedwetting stuff. It's been going on for years as young(ish) lads are treated like royalty, paid like bankers and worshipped like Idols.

The wrist slashers on the match thread

StuRomseySaint, followed up by Turkish and then repeated by Dune. It therefore is a fact. -
For a minute then I thought I'd stumbled on to the Ugly Inside board and been accosted by Stu and his self obsessed ramblings. His lack of self awareness seems to be rubbing off on a few others. LOL

I think we have been struggling recently. 5 pts from 5 games is not the best form and performances on the pitch have been hit and miss. Hopefully it's just a blip and it doesn't take, away from our excellent form and results from earlier in the season, but we have been struggling in recent games.

You do know when the goal drought will end don't you??????? Hopefully we'll score 4 in return though!!!!!

Seriously????
