  1. I think that we need to give the haircut reasonable time. The water in Southampton is notoriously hard and chalky and Martin said in his first press conference that it will take some time for the follicles to adapt to a the way he wants them to lay. Usual bedwetters on here criticising the state of his parting at Sunderland when he had to adapt to a hotel hairdryer and gel purchased at the motorway services only 24 hours before. Getting Nicky Clarke in as a split ends coach was a masterstroke by L'Oréal Republic and Vidal Sasoon wasn’t built in a day.
  2. High possession haircut. Lots of product.
  3. Finally some credible competition and experience in nets…
  4. If there is a mythical huge ceiling I doubt that he could reach it, both metaphorically and physically.
  5. I think it’s much deeper than that. Unbelievable given how long he’s been at the club!
  6. Makes you wonder if the upturn iin form coincided with a covert initial approach from Saints - pressure off and the doctrine eased off somewhat.
  7. Keeper aside (Larry, Curly and Mo) after the recent window we have a good deal of strength in depth across the squad for this league. No excuses, Martin should be able to get a tune out of this group in terms of dominating games and keeping clean sheets. I’ll take the points tally and current position but we should expect to see a clear incremental improvement from here as well as a reaction to the Sunderland debacle.
  8. I think it’s unfair to write him off so early in the season, give him time and he’ll get back to the top spot, three weeks should do it. #scapegoat
  9. Spot on!
  10. Yes, if only the pesky opposition would stop shooting at the goal and give Gavin the time and space he needs.
  11. This is the crux, and then he’ll be losing team mates as well as the crowd. In our first three games we got away with it, yesterday Mowbray had worked out how we’d set up and exactly who to target. More will follow his example. If Martin cares about Bazunu’s development beyond lip service and toeing the boardroom line he’ll take him out of the firing line, as Maresca’s Leicester side could well have him on toast.
  12. If he’s still here.
  13. Christ let’s hope so, even if Wilcox did a pin the tail on the donkey from that lot it would likely improve us. KS would be perfect.
  14. So were Norwich and QPR, clearly the weakness has been picked up. Anything on target has a chance of going in.
  15. Watch set pieces as well, like a fan who has won a competition with his school, jumping up and down as a foot shorter than everyone else.
  16. I think to play the way he wants to play you have to have the most able ball players in your respective league, high fitness and commitment. You can’t get away with weak links and have to weed out any quick smart. If Martin blows it it will be because he lacks a ruthless streak or can’t identify the clear weaknesses.
  17. Essentially Bazunu is the Juan Larios of goalkeepers. The main difference is the number of games played for our first team and a £12m rather than a £6million fee. Of the Man City starlets only Lavia has worked out and the perseverance with Bazunu seems to come from the very top, Ankersen and those who signed him for a big fee effectively allowing him to learn on the job. It’s not fine, it cost us dearly last season in terms of relagation and it will cost us this season in terms of promotion. From what I have seen he’s small for a modern day keeper in terms of height (he’s certainly not the height stated in Wikipedia, I’d say around 5ft 10 / 5 ft 11 - on par with Russell Martin), he’s physically small with poor strength (compared to likes of Shilton and Neimi who weren’t tallest but brick shithouses), he appears physically weak and needs to develop his upper body, he lacks decision making, is mute during matches and lacks consistency in terms of technique. On his side is his age and he has time on his side, but SFC doesn’t! I can see why the board persist in the hope of another payday or avoiding admission of their error, but the Bazunettes on here puzzle me - what are they seeing that many of us dimwits aren’t? During games you can feel the unease from the vast majority of our fans whenever play is near our goal, and the opposition are on to Bazunu as a weak link too. With set pieces the tension is palpable. Yes central midfield and defence needs work but having a rookie keeper is compounding it! Last year when the chips were down and our chances of staying up were hanging by a thread Selles finally dropped GB for the appalling mcarthy, and I wonder now how long it will be before Russell Martin is asking his DOF for permission to drop him for Lumley, probably not until we are in free fall sliding down the table. If it were up to me I’d be looking for a Boruc, and they are available, Kasper S would help immensely but maybe too obvious for our innovators.
  18. Holgate, shagging the ring of confidence!
  19. Fuck a duck! Travelling this afternoon so missed the debacle, will watch the dissection later with alcohol. A goalie who is a grown adult and defenders who can communicate would appear a good start. This has been coming. Deju fucking view, Martin’s honeymoon interrupted by a waiter pissing in the soup!
  20. I know mate. Lots of room for humour but no cynicism in the brave new Martin world. Good to be positive isn’t it 👊
  21. Fucks sake 😂
  22. I went for 8 but probably closer to 8.5 / 9. Early in the summer said I felt the focus should be on strengthening the central spine and adding some character and winning mentality. At close, we are going to frighten the opposition in this league, and if the ex prem group of Alcaraz, Sully, KWP and Che start enjoying themselves we will terrorise. Wish list is that that happens and perhaps we get a viable experienced keeper on loan (Schmeichel?), to provide genuine competion and help bring on Bazunu as much as anything else, then we are close to spot on - 9/10. I think that retaining Walker-Peters without fanfare and signing Harwood-Bellis and Downes are genuinely remarkable pieces of business. Having three strikers capable of scoring 20 plus goals at this level genuine strength in depth. Also creative players like alacarez and Sulemana along with Edozie and Fraser allowing us to mix it up and provide the fans with the spectacle we deserve after seasons of dire shite. I was level for Fraser’s debut cameo v QPR and his energy and directness pulled their defence all over the place (Armstrong the same, a pair of Duracell demons), put a committed Adams or Stewart on the receiving end and we are going to have games with cricket scores. Fair play to Wilcox and pulling strings and calling in favours in his first window whilst recouping a fortune for the board to settle nerves and consolidate commitment. We have a team packed with potential and experience, winners with some character, and an eminently likeable young manager who appears to have galvanised the players and support. So glad I renewed my season ticket as we are going to have a right fucking go this season. I hope that those who left us regret it come next May - COYR!
  23. Looks delighted to be here, had a few cans of Tennants on the flight.
  24. I’ve heard he’s got a new prestige post, duty manager at Claire’s Accessories in the Swan Centre, Eastleigh.
  25. Should be all over that!
