  1. Anyone else notice this on the BBC webpages? http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7656423.stm#top
  2. I think there is a difference between 'our' bail-out and the US one in that the US govt. has 'bought' the toxic assetts whereas our govt. hasn't. I'm trying so hard to understand all this (and failing miserably) but as someone pointed out earlier, Will Hutton in the Guardian writes some good stuff. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/oct/09/economy.economics I also found this quite interesting chart, showing how very low interest rates are these days, even though they've risen recently (until yesterday). I remember the days when they were 15% http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/interactive/2008/oct/07/interestrates.creditcrunch
  3. You won't be able to see as you will have gone blind. HTH
  4. Sometimes the men are sh*te too, I_N_S. I know of a man who decided, when his daughter was 6 weeks old (and after his partner had undergone a caesarian because the baby was breeched), that he didn't want to be a father after all! So he abandoned them. But you're right about some women using the children as a bargaining tool. And I say that as a woman! Some women irreparably damage their children emotionally by bad-mouthing the father and denying him access. It's never black and white, however.
  5. I can't believe someone would PAY to look like that LOL. In fact I can't believe anyone would pay anything to change their appearance unless they'd had an awful accident or disease. We should all be satisfied with who we are / what we are - not what we look like FFS. Mind you, it's easy for me to say that
  6. I've often thought about doing a headstand for a long period of time in the hope that gravity will take effect, StB. But it's difficult to use my laptop like that
  7. Most of us get 'thanked for our hard work' in the form of a weekly / monthly paycheque. Why should bankers be any different? Are you implying that they wouldn't work as hard if they didn't get their megabucks bonuses? Then sack 'em!
  8. Awww bless - me too! However, I'm watching Big Cat Diary on BBC1 ATM and I could easily be persuaded to adopt a baby cheetah.
  9. I do believe that's the intention. I'd be disappointed if it wasn't. I think there's a bit of hysteria, stoked by the media, about the risk the taxpayer is exposed to. It's just as likely that the taxpayer will profit from the moves made today, not immediately but eventually. The alternative would have been a complete meltdown of the economy and the impact of that on the taxpayer would have been too dreadful to contemplate and certainly worse than the quoted £1,600 we've all chipped in. It's not like we're being asked to contribute a further £1,600 - we've already paid it. Fingers crossed eh?
  10. What's the alternative, then?
  11. I wouldn't want a willeh at all  There's nothing I'd change -I'm as near as damn it perfect
  12. Happy Birthday Jill xx
  13. I haven't looked to see if this has been posted elsewhere but I was interested to hear that UEFA are considering banning clubs that have a high debt gearing from entering either the Champions League or UEFA cup. That will put paid to some clubs that have a large debt. Not naming names, of course
  14. I'm on a 10 year fixed rate so I don't give a flying f**k either - I'd rather have the certainty of knowing what's going out each month.
  15. +1...
  16. And cremations are polluting IMO. And you never know whose ashes you actually get afterwards.
  17. So, is it drinks on the house tonight????????
  18. I'm amused in a wry sort of way.
  19. I like a man of principle
  20. I thought you were deaf  Oh hang on - my bad. You're blind, aren't you. And we all know why
  21. :smt049 I'm not an animal!
  22. That's men for ya
  23. I did say 'not strictly an animal'. However: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/ Home page indicates that birds are animals. OK sweetheart?
  24. Not strictly an animal........ I would like an owl.
