Sheffield Weds 1-2 Saints - Match Thread
Kermitzasaint replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in The Saints
Martin's style is well known as being divisive . It's no surprise that fans disagree. I don't quite understand the need for name calling as differing opinions are natural. If you love his style then great , good for you. If you don't then also great. Hopefully things improve and results follow. As for me never being critical of Jones? I stopped posting, Jones signing broke my will and I stopped caring. Its easier that way. Up the Saints -

Best ? As in heaps of nothing football with zero end product? Tippy Tapping bollocks until we run out of space , ideas or lose the ball. It's easy to play this way if the other team let's you. We will lose more than we win with this style. Don't forget we will lose our best players, our team isn't getting stronger, it's getting weaker. If Martin produced Porn we would barely get her shirt buttons undone in 90 minutes. -

Strange comment to make. My opinion isn't unusual after reading similar comments online. Also echoed by Swansea and Mk Don fans. -

Excruciating game to watch. Even the pundits said the style is set to aggravate the opposing team. Well it worked. Massive possession at a snails pace meant a very ponderous attack, having to beat 11 players around their box. If this is what they're aiming for then we will not be coming straight back up again. Wednesday were awful yet still posed a threat once we lost possession. Result was positive but that was it. Meaningless passing for the sake of it. -
You don't remember when certain posters were tying themselves in knots trying to argue that a striker who doesn't score goals is exactly what we needed at the time? Russell has had no success previously yet suddenly because he speaks well and can pass the ball, is exactly what we need. Its no different to marrying the local slapper at the pub, trying to convince yourself she won't shag your mates after a few drinks.
-
How do you get rated as the best fullback when your defence let's in so many goals?
-
The amount of people on here desperately trying to ignore Russell's previous record of mediocre possession based football is astounding but amusing. He is well known for his style, his 'trust the process football ', his hopeless defensive record etc yet you guys are expecting him to suddenly change everything about himself even as he tells you he won't. Its Carrillo all over again.
-
So out of everyone we chose an average manager from an average side who plays possession football for the sake of it and can't organise a defence. I realise a few fans are championing him but there were quite a few fans who claimed that Carrillo was a decent striker even though he had a terrible scoring record. Seems the infighting on this forum will be the most interesting thing during the next season.
-
Personally I think he will stay as he is too much of a coward to move teams. I also think he will struggle in the Championship as he is too soft. He would need a midfield enforcer type player to protect him. His free kicks would be useful there as the teams are of a lower standard. I also don't think he should be captain.
-
How many teams have put in a serious bid for him?
-
You realise that Selles is the one who picks the team and leaves the new signings out ?
-
Selles seems to love making things difficult for us. What a weak selection.
-
Lesson to Ankerson here is never cheap out with your coach. This monumental balls up is completely self inflicted.
-
So is Selles still the messiah after a single win, deserving of taking the team til the end of the season? What a mess
-
I really miss the days when Cortese sold the Saints project, the vision etc. Now we are supposed to be grateful for a failed and hugely limited coach because we can't get anything better. I have honestly lost all faith in the club now. I just don't have the energy to care any more.
-
So you remember that Ralph was absolutely awful but you blame fans that SR replaced him with a coach we all knew was awful? I don't understand your point other than desperately trying ( and failing) to appear smug. I wouldn't want Ralph back. I wouldn't want Puel, Pelligrino or any of the utterly inept managers we have had since Koeman and Poch left.
-
Because Ralph was better ? No Ralph was equally inept. Zero shots on target happened with him as well. I get you obviously have a thing for him but try not to rewrite history.
-
Could you list the teams that would happily loan extremely effective strikers in January to a relegation rival please.
-
I see it claimed that Ralph was a good manager but there is never any evidence to back it up.
-
Ralph had to go. He should have been sacked a year earlier. Its Sport Republics responsibility to replace him with a quality replacement though.
-
Lower expectations maybe?
-
There has been leaks about Ralph for a while even ignoring his utter ineptitude at coaching etc. Why slag off Redmond over it?
-
Defensively in terms of players we are great. Organisationally we are a shit show. That's down to Ralph
-
But they wouldn't be his players
-
Joe Shields leaving? What the hell is happening???

Well it could be argued that destroying a club through ineptitude would be the opposite of loyal. Your obsession with Ralph is amusing though.
