To be fair, I'd expect that if anyone was wrestled to the floor and handcuffed by the police because they were picking up their glasses, then there would be serious consequences for the police officer enacting the 'assualt' with no justifiable reason.
-
Isn't that a standard response for those that resist arrest?
-
They discussed it with the police. The police said it wasn't possible for the vigil to take place safely during the pandemic and taking the laws on gatherings into consideration. The organising group didn't like being told they couldn't hold the vigil so appealed against the police decision to the High Court. The High Court refused to make a declaration that any ban on gatherings should not apply to protests. The Met re-iterated that people should not attend the vigil. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56379248 Pretty clear they were told before hand that they should not attend, so presumably you are happy that they should 'own' the consequences of their actions?

Like I said, no win situation for them yesterday. If they had worn tie dye shirts and flowers in their hair, stood back and watched (as aintclever is suggesting they should have done ), then they would have been neglecting their duties to enforce a high court ruling and somebody would be receiving a massive bollocking this morning - Priti Patel would be looking at another contempt of court charge. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Apologies, I always thought it was about maintaining law and order by enforcing rules. Maybe they should swap out their pepper spray for a delightful pot pourri air freshener.

To be fair, on this occassion they were in a no win situation. The 'right' to peaceful protest (during a pandemic lockdown) was argued in the High Court, which clearly ruled that public safety had to come ahead of that right and denied the organiser's request for it to go ahead. The Police were duty bound to enforce High Court judgement and the organiser's abandoned their plans to stage a vigil in public and asked people to protest remotely by standing outside their front door. Anyone attending Clapham Common on Saturday night would have known that the High Court had ruled that their attendance was unlawful. The Police had already confirmed how they would police the event so it shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone!

The weekend riding thread.

Refurbished my old Mekk Poggio to give it new life as the 'crap weather bike'. Worked well today on its first outing - even if I did have a brake block stuck on for the first 8 miles (the only time I had a tailwind!). Riding into 40mph gusts was a splendid experience! -
That doesn't seem very fair to those that have worked so hard to have one added.

Shockingly, where a cause of death is mentioned in that list, one involves an old lady being beaten to death with a walking stick but all the rest were 'stabbed' or died of stab wounds.
-
There is an opportunity to do that every five years. So, you're happy that she is doing a cracking job and nothing has gone wrong on her watch, that's fine.
-
Apologies, I should have used the word 'accountable' rather than 'responsible'. If a private company screws up and ends up in court, would it be the managers explaining their actions to the beak or the CEO? As GM has previously pointed out, this isn't the first 'failing' that has happened on her watch and that she is accountable for. At what point do you draw the line and start to question the head of the organisation?
-
As the head of the Met Police isn't she responsible for the way the force runs and operates? In which case, isn't she responsible for not investigating previous (alleged) crimes committed by the same police officer? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56368531

Jesus wept In the same week that we have International Women's day, you are trotting out this complete bollocks. Frankly, it's this mysogyny that has kept women and girls repressed for centuries. You should be ashamed of your outdated attitudes - especially the ones where you arbitrarily assign a gender to those wishing to become princesses. I only wish you'd tell us more about how a mixed race person growing up in California couldn't possibly know anything about the British Royal Family, that one was a classic.
-
She's full of shit! Growing up, she always wanted to be a princess : https://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/2018081361135/meghan-markle-princess-old-blog/ And as for Timmy's " If you're a mixed race American growing up in California why the fuck would she?", that's a pile of horseshit as well! From the same article linked above : So she knew full well what the media attention would be like without having to Google Harry! About as far from Timmy's idea of a mixed race, know nothing growing up in a hick town in California as you can get. She was a reasonably succesful actess in her previous life so would have had an inkling as to media attention FFS!

I think you've missed... Adolf - as in Hitler. 18 - as in a=1, h=8 as in the initials for Adolf Hitler. No idea what the 3 is for, but presumably he miss counted and thought it was a 'd' for 'das'.

Shouldn't this discussion have happened yesterday when women were being celebrated?
-
No. There was lots of faux anger when Brexit was being blamed a month or so ago (tariiffs). Nobody seems to care now though, now that Brexit isn't to blame...
-
"adolfdas183" seems like a perfectly reasonable fella to me. Definitely no racism ties in his twitter handle
-
Not sure where all the crocodile tears have gone now that the British Steel industry is facing an actual crisis. Seems no-one really gives a shit unless they can pin the blame on Brexit...
-
You say that like it is beyond the realm of possibility. Would it be more or less probable than a woman who is married to a man, who launched his own campaign to end the stigma around mental health, being 'refused' by the 'institution' when she asked for help because she was on the verge of killing herself. That's some Hollywood shit there....
-
What if it was one of the kids asking an innocent kid type question? Would that still be as racist as it has been portrayed?

Fancy him not telling her that she wouldn't need to carry keys around (the driver sorts out the car and the butlers let them into the house) or worry about losing her passport either. It seems to have been a genuine surprise to them both that when the Royal Family said they wouldn't support them if they left the family then that meant they wouldn't get any money.
