  1. I'm assuming that the 'community share' capital is the money that they 'gave' to the club however many years ago. Since there is absolutely no chance that the club will ever be repaying this generous 'donation' then it stands to reason that the 'community share' capital is currently a grand total of zero pounds. That, right there, is their get out clause if anyone asks for their money back....
  2. And you're not likely to! I got an email from them yesterday afternoon cancelling the interview saying the dynamics with the client had changed and they'll be in touch once they know more. Sounds like bull to me....
  3. Those pesky fatty pipes http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/our-region/portsmouth/mysterious-smell-wafts-over-portsmouth-1-7590904
  4. To be fair, the 'Trust's' bank account is not the same as the 'club's' bank account, but with £53k in it, you'd think they could afford a new table cloth or even an iron. I'm sure though that any potential 'investor' in the club who doesn't meet the rigorous and high standards set by the trust will have his / her investment vetoed. Oh wait, no, with a mere 48% of the shares they're not in a position to do that are they
  5. Have you thought about just sticking an 11-32 cassette on the back? If you went to a proper compact you would only gain two extra teeth - vital in Portsmouth, but not quite so on a bike! - with a 34 front ring. I've got the full 50-34 and 11-32 setup on both my bikes but even at my size I am very rarely in the 34-32 combination and tend to use it when I'm being 'lazy'! The only time I feel I actually 'need' that combo is when I go round the two bends going up cheddar and it ramps up to over 20% [although I did previously do it with a 28 on the back before I changed!]. You might save a few quid keeping your current chainring on. The only thing you would need to consider if you are just putting the bigger cassette on the back - to be honest the cassette isn't that expensive at about £45 for the Ultegra - would be to make sure you have the 'medium' sized rear derailleur cage fitted. If you currently have the 'short' version, which is quite likely with an 11-28 cassette, then you are looking at around £135 for the Di2 cage and the short cage will not work with the 32 tooth. Having said that, the ability to keep spinning at around 70rpm even once the slope goes over 15% is a godsend as the higher cadence helps to keep the lactose in check!
  6. Strangely, I'm looking forward to the autumn / winter riding as well! New mudguards fitted to the 'old' bike which also has some new boots on for the winter roads - vredestein fortezza senso http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/reviews/tyres/vredestein-fortezza-senso-weather-road-bike-tyres - which get good reviews as a winter tyre. I've taken the bike out once with those on and it made no noticeable difference to the time, but that was before I fitted the mud guards and haven't ridden it since then... Still hoping for another couple of weeks of dry weather to take the 'new bike' through it's paces. Initial feedback is that it works very well. A few little niggles with the mechanical setup - rubbing brakes, rear derailleur needed a slight tweaking and front derailleur needed to be moved out a couple of mm's - but seems to be working fine now. I tried the mavic tyres that came with the wheels for a couple of weeks but took them off on Saturday and swapped them for some conti gatorskins which despite my tired legs still gave a better time than the mavics which just seemed a little bit 'sluggish'. As for the wind in the winter, living next door to the sea, I've had 30-40mph winds most rides during the summer, so I'm kind of getting used to it now and it's more of a novelty to finish a ride without having battled a block wind for 10 miles!
  7. Good luck I'm interviewing on Thursday for the same role in the Weston Super Mare distribution centre. Like you, it's ideal for me and five minutes drive from home
  8. Have you tried a company called 'Futurestep' : http://www.futurestep.com/ not sure if they still are, but they were looking for an onsite recruiter in Southampton as they've just won the contract for all the Lidl distribution centres. For an onsite role the pay is very good....
  9. A lot of the posts have been deleted but you get the idea: https://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/amazon/ref=cm_cd_pg_newest?_encoding=UTF8&authToken=&cdForum=Fx20NG9OQFCP0QF&cdPage=1&cdSort=oldest&cdThread=Tx3MOX2HIIVZHHD Doesn't sound like the most glamorous of jobs and the hours look like they are very long - working for 15 hours a day and only being paid for 10 doesn't sound fair. Not sure I like the idea of these types of roles being classed as 'self employed' either. They clearly do NOT fit the criteria for a self employed role as the 'employee' has absolutely zero control over what they do, when and how they do it, with the 'employer' dictating everything, including the route to take to deliver the parcels. To me, this is a 'cheap' way for the company to 'employ' staff without paying the costs associated with employment like Holiday Pay, Minimum Wage, pension, sick pay, national insurance etc etc.
  10. We're not knocking them for boycotting it, we're knocking them for claiming they would all buy tickets - and thus give the club much needed money, being 'fan-owned' this is what they do - but then boycotting the ticket office as well....
  11. Isn't this the 'boycott' where they were all going to buy tickets, so the club wouldn't lose out, but then not turn up in protest? Looks like they've forgotten about the first bit....
  12. Can you not just ban him? What goes around comes around....
  13. Fingers crossed that I will one day! Put it up on the stand again this afternoon for a shakedown and ran it through the gears only for the chain to slide over and into the spokes! Phoned up Ribble whose customer service is absolutely terrible! The guy I was speaking to asked what I thought they should do about it! He said he would get it picked up tomorrow which means it will get to them on Monday. They will then take 3 days to look at it before sending it back to me when it will arrive next Friday! After several discussions with the manager - with me pointing out numerous times how disgruntled I was with their service - they have now agreed to pick the bike up tomorrow as planned [it's now back in its box] and they will build a new one tomorrow and send it out to me on Friday so I will receive it on Monday. Maybe next week I can play with the new toy.... Looks like my ride tomorrow will be back on the old bike! Still, at least I can get out!
  14. Two weeks today since my last ride! Withdrawal symptoms are very strong but legs are well and truly recovered! Stitches out tomorrow morning so I should be able to put the new bike on the turbo and fiddle around to get the setup right. With luck, i may even be able to take it out for a spin on Thursday... I've finally taken it out of the box and the tyres that are wrapped around the wheels are Mavic Yksion Elite Guard - I can only find one review on these and they seem to be OK so I'll give them a whirl and see if the review is right....
  15. Fingers crossed they don't get held up in any of the nightmare traffic on their journey to Exeter today The M5 Southbound is already filling up and slowing down and it's only half nine, wait til the caravans get down here from the North of England and it will be carnage! I can't imagine the A303 or A35 routes will be any less painful with the amount of traffic expected on the roads today
  16. Is this the fine that the gap toothiest were clubbing together to pay?
  17. Brings a whole new perspective to 'Mom's warm apple pie'.
  18. Nice! The Ribble 'own brand' bikes do seem to offer very good value and receive good reviews. I looked at that frame but ruled it out on the geometry and the size of frames on offer. Having a dodgy back my position needs to be more upright - I'm OK with that as I know I'm never going to be a 'racer' and just happy to be out getting exercise! - so my seat is only a couple of centimetres above the handlebars, which only the 'gran fondo' frame offered with a 58cm frame. I had no idea that the Mavic wheels I chose would come wrapped in their own tyres - apparently they sell them as a 'wheel system'. Anybody have any experience with their tyres? Are they any good? I chose conti Gatorskin 25mm tyres when 'building' the bike and was expecting it to come fitted with those, should I whip off the Mavics and put the conti's straight on or give the Mavics a whirl?
  19. Frustrated!!! The new bike turned up yesterday and I managed to finally get the wife to help me take it and the box it came in, in to the garage having spent the entire day looking at it! Another seven days before I'm able to get the stitches out of my hand following the operation so it's a minimum of seven days before I get to ride my new trusty stead! It does look pretty awesome but I've not removed it from the box yet!! Fortunately my 'battery store' worked as planned yesterday and charged the Di2 battery so I can charge it in the garage and won't have to drag it into the house every time the battery needs charging! Hopefully my hand will be strong enough to put the pedals on and adjust the seat / handlebars before the stitches come out so it will be ready to go as soon as my hand will allow.... In the meantime I'll just have to keep going out for long walks!
  20. But they've got 'history' and that will ensure a price tag of hundreds of billions.
  21. Lots of them crying out for a 'sugar daddy' to come and take them to the top. Not hypocritical at all!
  22. Ahead on 'pure grass' difference.
  23. To be fair, you live on the island and she has 'blown the lot'. Chances are pretty damn high that you two have already met....
  24. Today's A4 printed sign - and this is an exclusive! - says "welcome to Fratton Park, one of only one football grounds left still using one of these, enjoy it while it lasts" and is pinned up on the wall above this :
  25. That was a concern having read some early reviews of Di2, especially as my garage does not have any power going to it! However, it seems that the newer version of Di2 where the battery is in the seatpost / tube and therefore more sheltered from the elements gives a much better battery life of around 1500 miles, which is a good couple of months for me. However, I've also ordered a 'battery bank' for about £12.00 from Amazon which holds a charge of 10,000 mAh. Since the Di2 battery is only 500 mAh it should be more than adequate to leave in the garage and charge the Di2 when not in use - it has three USB sockets so will also be handy for charging the Garmin edge at the same time
