  1. Since absolutely nothing has happened so far since the vote to leave the EU, aren't we technically in exactly the same position as we have been for a number of years - and will remain so until March 2019. Why does that make us desperate?
  2. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, each and every time they boo - have they admitted that they do that yet? - what they are actually doing is boo-ing themselves?
  3. I'm not entirely sure why you are surprised that the EU is our largest trading partner since we have not been allowed to arrange our own trade deals outside of the EU since we've been a member! Just imagine who our largest trade partner could potentially have been if we HAD been allowed to set up our own trade deals...
  4. So, just to be clear, you dismissed my argument stating that there is no 'serious academic evidence' for it and replaced it with your own argument which is apparently a 'fact of life'! Any reason why the same exacting academic standards are not applied to your own arguments?
  5. Can you quantify that bit for me? I was watching a program on the Diesel engine the other day and how it has permeated pretty much every supply chain in the world by about 95%. They were discussing the merits of huge container ships and the fact that the diesel engines that run them are now super efficient. As a result they stated that it is now cheaper to import goods half way round the world from China than it is to deliver from your local shops. I guess with the exception of ultra perishable goods where time is a crucial factor, geography isn't such a significant factor, especially given the economies of scale when using 'mega' container ships....
  6. I may be completely wrong on this - and please do feel free to correct me if that's the case - but doesn't today's ruling just mean that Parliament has to agree to the triggering of Article 50? Also, is Article 50 just the vehicle with which we signal our intent to leave the EU? The way I understand it, is that we trigger Article 50 and then have two years before we leave the EU - this is not negotiable - however, we then negotiate how our relationship will look during those two years and implement when the sand timer runs out. Not sure, but I don't believe Parliament is then entitled to another vote after the triggering of Article 50 as their 'duty' is concluded once they trigger the Article... Therefore, even though Parliament will give the go ahead to leave the EU it won't get a say on what the relationship looks like when then happens. This is how I see it, but could be wrong. I'm assuming that if that's wrong and Parliament gets another vote, then things could look very bad if what is on the table is not agreed when the sand timer runs out - presumably if that were to happen, then we would still be booted out of the EU but without any agreement on what the relationship should be, which would be pretty bad!
  7. Good choice as eating out will mean no washing up to do
  8. You know the NHS doesn't fund 'social care' though right? 'Social care' is funded by the local councils from their own budgets. Whilst I totally agree that the whole system needs completely overhauling, I think it also needs much tougher scrutiny as there are far too many company's making far too much money whilst operating under the banner of providing 'care'.
  9. Championship standard or regular?
  10. Seriously? It's a dishwasher! I would suggest that a dishwasher that has lasted for 11 years has had a pretty exceptional life! I you need a dishwasher quickly go to AO.com - Asda's online portal - and order one from there. I've always found there service to be very good and they do next day delivery. Can't really advise you on which one to get as it would depend on the size of your family and how often it is used - we have four in our household and the dishwasher is on about four times a week. We bought one for about £350 - so mid-range - and so far it has lasted 6 years with no issues. Currently that is a cost of £60 per year which is more than reasonable, but I'd expect to get about 10 years out of it so a cost of £35 per year. That's pretty good value for money in anyone's book as it could cost about £20 per year in rubber gloves if you were to do it manually! You can get one on AO.com for £200 which will come with a 2 year warranty and should easily last 5 years - so £40 per year....
  11. The vote was quite unambiguous and I'm not sure why you keep trying to claim it was somehow more sinister. There were two options, remain in the EU or leave the EU. Since the 'EU' is an all encompassing term of the freedom of movement, single market, customs, laws, rules, regulations etc etc, it seems pretty clear that voting to 'leave' the 'EU' meant leaving all those things behind.
  12. To stop the supporters getting out? I guess if they can't leave early, all they've got left is to boo.
  13. Does that not sum up EVERYTHING to do with 'Brexit'? Until anything actually happens it all just hot air and dribble! Article 50 hasn't even been triggered yet, so isn't it a bit too early for EITHER side to claim victory?
  14. Yep. And they have "championship" standard floodlights. Who the feck is laughing now?
  15. Is it not possible to not support joining the Euro, but, at the same time not wish to leave the European Union? Those two things are not the same as I'm sure Greece & Spain can confirm... Certainly a quick glance at the Professor's articles before the vote would suggest he was very much aligned to remaining a part of the EU. Since the CEP does not have any institutional views, only those of its members, then surely the views of the Director must be taken into account! It's like saying that Virgin as an institution does not have any views - which it doesn't as it's a company! - but anyone who thinks the company's direction and political influence is not intrinsically linked to Richard Branson and his own personal opinions, would have to be dafter than a brush!
  16. So, a couple of hours in A&E, five X-rays later and it turns out I've broken my left arm in two places! Spent the day with an ice pack on it yesterday and finally gave in and went to the hospital in the evening when the pain got too bad. Back on Friday to have the temp cast taken off and replaced with another one. Looks like I'll be spending the next couple of weeks in the garage on the very dumb turbo until the arm heals...
  17. Ouch! Despite riding super carefully on the icy roads, I've finally joined the faceplant club when I staked it on a bend with black ice - literally didn't see the ice! Skinned my right elbow - through my jacket which has a tiny rip on the wrist! - skinned my right hip and wrenched my left thumb back. Much pain right now and had to limp home the last seven miles!
  18. My goal for this year was 3,500 miles. Re-adjusted to 4,000 about half way through the year.... Today's ride put me over the 4,500 mile mark Can I do 5,000 next year?
  19. Shocker today! Temperature of minus 2 with mist / fog. Brake levers got damp then the dampness froze - glad I wore the full fingered gloves! I changed the cassette yesterday to a smaller one - not planning on any big hills on the winter bike! - so assumed it wasn't on properly when I was struggling with an average speed of 14.5mph! It took 11 miles before I finally stopped to check things out only to find the back brake was rubbing! The ride got much easier after that but didn't get any warmer!
  20. Bears! Crazy fool! I bet he's the type of guy who goes down to the woods all alone and not in disguise!
  21. It's a truly amazing feat that this awesomemost crowd could strike fear in to the hearts and minds of some of the best players in the Premier league but has absolutely no effect on the likes of Hartlepool!
  22. Yet, despite all that, they DO have Championship standard floodlights! Wasn't the hat eating referring to last season when they didn't get promoted or does it just carry over the same way the lottery does?
  23. Surely a famous festive tune can be altered to : "...and the boos were ringing out at Fratton Park..."
  24. So, users experiencing problems connecting to the internet after updating Windows are advised by Microsoft to visit their web page. Seems logical! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38301548
  25. https://www.strava.com/activities/792138639 That hurt! A nice 25-30mph North Easterly blowing this morning which meant I was heading into it, non stop, for 12 miles all the way up the A38. Even better was the only 'hilly' bit of my ride came in the last four miles of that 12 mile slog! I lost my legs at 40 miles and the last five miles were horrendous. My natural cadence - i.e. how fast my legs spin without any though being put in to it! - is around 80-82 rpm. For the last five miles I had to make a conscious effort just to get the legs spinning over 70 rpm and even then they couldn't reach 80! I'm guessing that despite the fact that I had my thermal tights on, the legs just never got warm enough to cope with the effort. Encouragingly, I did exactly the same route last Saturday and the wind was similar - it was NE but probably 5mph lighter - and I did the ride about 10 minutes faster, although as it had been dry all week, I took the summer bike out for a spin. Nice to know that it should be a fair bit faster when the weather gets nicer than the winter bike!
