  1. On that basis we should have a single Olympic sized swimming pool for the entire country.
  2. Where as you might have scraped a further education place but are the font of all knowledge and wisdom Dune?
  3. Clearly you have no idea about velodromes. The one in Manchester was built for the Commonwealth Games and has acted as the foundation for all our Olympic cycling medals ever since. There are well attended events going on most weekends and that is not limited to cycling as the middle is used for other sports, drama and even dance.
  4. What a stupid comment. Manchester was a massive Commonwealth Games success and the legacy is ongoing with new housing, social amenities etc.
  5. What is this word?
  6. I think we should hire Terry Cooper again and ask him to scout the CIS countries. There must be loads of unknown talent in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Then if we add that to USA players that Tim will tip us off about we will be bloody brilliant.
  7. No thanks.
  8. Settled... in Bassett it might be added!
  9. No, they don't. I hope your cat is ok! One of mine got clipped by a car last year and big cash was spent on a vet's bill. Not fun although fine in the end. I suspect your outcome is not so good.
  10. It's all smoke and mirrors atm for sure. But I wouldn't think old men like James, Kanu and Hreidarson will manage to inspire greenhorns and fellow journeymen to the CCC title!
  11. Is there a link between push-ups, grunting in the gym and tattoos?
  12. This will be interesting particularly as the coalition has got off to a pretty good start as far as getting on together. 1. David Miliband is a right wing Labour contender, formidable intellect but maybe a bit geeky. 2. Ed Miliband is more of the left and Gordon Brown but is quite natural. 3. Jon Cruddas has just ruled himself out but carries a lot of Trade Union backing. He has not said who he prefers. Will he actually be tempted as a stalking horse of the left? 4. Andy Burnham is a very personable bloke but probably can't get the Miliband intellect ranking (not necessarily a showstopper). 5. Ed Balls may throw his hat in the ring and is a forceful guy in the Alistair Campbell mould. 6. Alan Johnson says he ain't going for it but has a lot of respect among the brothers. Maybe too old though has an engaging approach. 7. Our own John Denham has political stature but says he is not interested. 8. The old school like Harriet Harman and Jack Straw are probably too closely associated with the old regime. Not sure David Miliband is a walk in as it depends where the others line up. More interesting times ahead! And probably good for democracy if there are three fresh leaders on the scene (obviously ignoring the proposed 55% rule when I say democracy). Although I voted Labour in the election I had let my party membership lapse. I think I will rejoin so I get a say in the next phase of Labour! What do others think?
  13. Somewhat unbelieveably I seem to have lost 10lbs in 10 days according to my scales - they are unreliable but I haven't altered them so it might be right. My regime has been cutting down on calories more than upping the exercise rate.
  14. Very revealing!
  15. Yep, rotten to the core unfortunately.

Can't argue with that! Although the Tories want to eradicate existing regional bodies as they view them as unnecessary quangos.
  17. Run that by me again TDD... just so I understand the difference between well kept race horses and wild animals...
  18. Maybe DC will offer a free vote on fox hunting as the Tories promised! I doubt it now unless he wants to lose his new LD friends

That is the rough intention. That's why the Boundaries Commission exists in a way. The issue is demographics and also the good requirement to vote for local candidates. Mikey, if you just cut the vote on national percentages, how would you have local representatives? It would just be a spread and there would be no local candidates for particular issues in an area. i.e. no real MPs.
  20. Exactly. The principles of this coalition are non-existent. The nonsense that Clegg now spouts about national need is quite pathetic. This is a man who led the LDs into the election with 61 seats and ended up with 55 seats... irrespective of the voting system. And then sold his party's soul as a lucky kingmaker! I'd love to hear Charlie Kennedy's take on it (totally silent thus far and not accepting/offered a govt post...)! And Bungle's also.
  21. I can't go that far Master Bates. I've had a few rough times at Stamford Bridge. I'll support Chelsea today but not doing the songs!
  22. Beggars belief. He has massive front.
  23. Clegg today defends his actions to go Lib-Con in the Guardian. He says there was no other option. So why was he talking with Labour? Also in the Guardian as Business Secretary Vince Cable says he will tackle big bank bonuses: "Vast bonuses, particularly where it involves cash payments, are just not acceptable and that will be stopped by the new government and properly regulated in the interests of reducing risk." It should be noted that in the first quarter of this year the banking sector paid £20bn to its bankers, two years ago before the crash it was £24bn. Hmmmm... we'll see. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8684173.stm
  24. I can tell you a story about pineapple juice and AP that nobody seems to know on this site....
  25. Interesting comments about renewables from the new Energy & Environmentment Minister Chris Huhne - http://www.newenergyfocus.com/do/ecco/view_item?listid=1&listcatid=32&listitemid=3919&section=Policy He said: "The most scandalous legacy of the last 13 years is the fact that here we are sitting on the island part of Europe that has the most potential for wind power, for tidal power, for wave power...we have an abundance of potential renewable energy and yet we have one of the worst records of any country in the European Union for generating electricity from renewables. "We've got to get renewables way up. We've got to make sure we're much more energy efficient, because the cheapest way of generating energy is actually to save energy. "And by doing those two courses of action I believe we can make our national security more secure as well because we will be more independent of imports of key energy requirements."
