  1. Many people are not offended by wind farms anyway. But that is something we will all have to disagree about. The main point is that wind farms are effective at many times. Wind farms contribute lots of energy to EU nations. For example, at one point in January Spain was using energy that was over 50% generated by its wind farms. In its recent annual results Drax Power that produces 7% of the UK's power normally from coal said its profits were down because of the extra wind energy now on tap to suppliers. The gripe by the antis here recently is that in January in the UK wind contributed virtually nothing to the mix as we had a period of high pressure that meant low wind speeds and freezing weather. This is true but it is an isolated time period. The UK has the best wind speeds in Europe because of the jet stream and that is available for much of the year. It might be the case that wind is only one part of a diverse energy generation mix but it can be an important one that we use first when it is available. Once again, you don't have to believe in man-made climate change to see the value of using a free and non-polluting infinite resource over finite fossil fuel alternatives. Labour is putting forward use of wind, nuke, gas and other fledgling renewables that is backed up by coal. Anti-wind guys moan about the cost of keeping coal power stations in reserve but that is actually nonsense in the bigger scheme of things as it is well worth paying a subsidy to energy companies to have extra energy on tap if required. The other point is that there will be times with wind when we are producing more energy than we need. That can be sold to countries who don't have the same resources. Mixed energy generation can be a win-win for all the UK in terms of the economy, energy security and climate change for those who believe it (I do personally).
  2. I agree that the decision has taken a long time but there are plenty of reasons for that. I can assure you that the Tories would have been no quicker and it is fair to say (working in the energy arena) that the Tory energy proposals are exceptionally cack-handed and amateur. As an example, the first thing the Tories want to do is dismantle the newly created Infrastructure Planning Commission which has been created to give particular priority to projects of national importance such as big power, water and transport schemes so they don't get held up for as long as they do at the moment in planning. Great thinking, Dave Cam! The publicly stated Tory train of thought is that the IPC is another quango and won't be directly accountable to the people. Two points here - the Tories invented quangos to get around Labour authorities such as the GLC in the 1980s and, secondly, Dave Cam's plan is to let local authorities and people have a bigger say on whether power plants, high speed rail and water treatment plants get built near them. What a clever idea, pandy to the NIMBYs to get votes and then watch the lights go out, the economy wither and a return of cholera! Alternatively, the Tories may just be offering up false populist promises that they intend to renege on anyway if they get do into power this year!
  3. Then you look a bit silly Dune. Labour has instigated a new nuke era with its plans to have six new nukes online by 2025. It also wants more renewables of course. Nukes take 10 years to get online before you comment and that is after planning issues. If you bothered to read the energy white paper and energy act you would know that the aim of new nukes and renewables is to spread the energy risk and by 2020 reduce imports of coal and use of coal by 10% and gas imports by 20%. That is a good strategy to have energy diversity and security whether you believe or disbelieve in man-made climate change.
  4. Just not sure it's necessary really. Are all Austrians nazis or child molesters?
  5. Do you still intend to vote BNP Dune?
  6. é is ctrl-alt-e all at the same time.
  7. Yep, agreed. Storrie was lying again about the amount of staff to try to persuade the court to go gentle on them. He is really is a class 1 sh*t from the very top drawer.
  8. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8553463.stm Pathetic. Effing luddites.
  9. O'Hara is uber thick. His serial football ****er g/f Danielle Llloyd announced her pregnancy the other day. Check them both out on Twitter. Epsilons.
  10. Who gives a monkey's about a semi-final at Wembley... They would be playing at plenty of other grounds for a semi in the past. If they get to the final, then fine.
  11. Nothing wrong with right to buy as it puts ownership and responsibility on people and offers them opportunities they possibly would not have otherwise. It's good aspiration for those who want to try. But unfortunately as social housing places are sold new ones have to created.
  12. I'm always amazed at how many people use the same password. If you have access to an admin part of cetain sites you know the usernames and passwords and then can have a good go at hacking the same person on other sites. Not that I partake in such devilry, of course!
  13. I suspect this guy really knows how to dodge his way about HMRC unlike our friends down the M27! http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/mar/05/ashcroft-tories-funding-belize
  14. Well, sort of. The asteroid was the size of the Isle of Wight but it makes a good cheap headline! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/dinosaurs/7368548/Dinosaurs-wiped-out-by-asteroid-impact-that-turned-earth-into-a-hellish-place.html
  15. I take it you are aware that Callaghan's Labour government of which Foot was a Cabinet member always kept an attack sub in the South Atlantic to deter Argentina. As soon as the Tories came to power it was withdrawn and our presence in the South Atlantic reduced to the arctic patrol ship, HMS Endurance, which had no defences and small arms ammunition. Thatcher's government's policies invited the Falklands invasion Dune.
  16. So Dune has started hearing voices!

    Hattrick

Just checked... he's on 18,130. I have been sticking to playmaking and he is now brilliant. I think he started the season as formidable. But I am not sure how much improvement might be down to playing in L5 anyway.
  18. +1. Obscured thinking!
  19. A true gentleman and the most honest of politicians.

I'm the same. Second from bottom with a measly four points. Still saving for a new manager. The upside is that League 5 has caused an upsurge in TSI for some of my players. One of my midfielders started the season at about 7,000 and is now on 17,000.
  21. I work very close to OT and have seen the pavement stallholders selling the green and gold scarves on matchdays.
  22. UKIP's reputation as a bunch of bizarre individuals with very odd views was cemented by leader Nigel Farage who accused the new EU President of having the "charisma of a damp rag" and coming from a "non-country" as he is Belgian! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8535121.stm Everytime I have run across UKIP MEPs in my work I have to say that they have indeed been verging on bonkers with the views they hold! They are a very strange lot!
  23. I fully expect to see Storrie dismissed by the administrator. His position is untenable given his record as CEO which any administrator will recognise. There is also no role for a CEO while the administrator takes those duties.
  24. How can a person hate the Scots without even knowing one?
