Today was like watching current Saints play old Saints. Danny Rohl set Shef Weds up to press and they looked good at the start just as we used to start well without scoring. But like old Saints they petered out and left massive space out wide to exploit. It's fair to say that the system Martin has them playing is far superior than we've seen since Koeman.

Nathan Jones offering his wisdom on Sky. He still sets my teeth on edge.

Mara!

Still injured after that horror tackle at QPR
-
Adam Armstrong did do well to set that up

Great goal

Sheff Wed are leaving lots of spaces for us in the break.

Whoever said 2-0 Adams and Adam A. Take a bow.

Sheffield Weds are a lot like watching us play during the Ralph days. Nice pressure at the start. Ball nearly breaking forwards then increasingly sitting back inviting pressure and playing so narrow that pressure it invited out wide.

Fraser and KWP are getting loads of space out wide

Lovely ball from THB

Make it 3-1

Coventry 2-1 up

I'm still annoyed about that challenge

Referee's having a mare in the Coventry v Leicester game. That was never a penalty and he's throwing yellow cards about like confetti at the Coventry players while turning a blind eye to a series of professional fouls from Leicester.

Wait, are we saying that if we play Gomes now he has a 60% chance of turning into a decent player? Why aren't we playing more kids? 😉

At a certain point we should accept that Carvalho doesn't want to play for Saints. He chose the Liverpool bench over us and now he wants to live in Hull. If that's not saying "I hate Southampton and never want to live there" without saying "I hate Southampton and never want to live there" then I don't know what is.

If Martin gives him minutes I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. This is the first time he's been playing in a Saints side that is creating chances. Judging him based on the limp.ending to Ralph's time or the successive shit shows of Jones and Selles seems unfair. Same as with Bazunu who only recently started playing behind a defence that is denying the opposition chances. And looks better for it. Stewart is out for a while. Adams is playing our time until his free transfer and us, well, Adams. Adam A is better from the flanks. I don't see us solving our striker issues this window because, well, Saints. Plus, this season there's a physical presence about the lad that wasn't there before. So I'd like him given a serious run this season. He's not going to do worse than Che.

Beating a side comfortably we should beat comfortably with lots of changes and giving our kids some minutes? That's very unSaintsy but I love it. None of the kids looked unable to play in the system. We looked able to cut them apart at will which is a wonderful change from our glorious tradition of scraping cup wins against lower league opposition.

Off to Fulham on loan apparently.

I'd take the entertaining 6-5 win that one of their posters was advocating.
