  1. I think the two are chalk and cheese. One is a very average keeper and the other is not a keeper
  2. Another way of assessing how good someone is in comparison is to look at how much transfer interest that player generates. I don’t think Bazanu has generated interest from any club.
  3. It’s a legitimate tactic against a small and physically slight keeper. If the ball beats the first man on the front post we are in trouble and teams have clearly spotted that and teams will continue to target that until he is replaced. If the new guy is all he’s cracked up to be he will see that. It’s like having a weak scrum in rugby - teams will exploit it and you struggle to have a platform to play from. It’s one of the reason we get deeper and deeper as he can’t command his box so the CBs have to compensate and fill the space he should be commanding. It must be a nightmare to play with him as a CB as he has no presence in the six yard box. If there are any CBs on here who would you rather have in goal Baz or McCarthy ?
  4. I am not convinced he could have done much for any of the goals today. The third was a poor goal to concede all round and he got himself in an awkward position. I thought he was lucky to get away with the disallowed goal and he has a habit of rushing from his line and not collecting the ball. His lack of physicality and poor positioning don’t help. If I was the opposition coach and Baz was in goal I would be bombarding the box as he simply doesn’t have the physical attributes or ability to command his box and I don’t think we can underestimate how that can put the team on the back foot in a physical game like today. Would be interesting to know what the defenders like Stephens and THB think to playing with him.
  5. The cnt bit is ott but the following frustrates people : Baz in goal Five at the back Stephen’s at CB and captain The lack of numbers and physicality in CM short guy up front on his own it looks like an unbalanced team less than the sum of its parts
  6. Complete joke but no surprise - he’s come back into the side with no justification and been a pile of nervous, flapping shit responsible for two goals, yet keeps his place.
  7. Get Tonda appointed, give him the January transfer window, sack him a few days after it closes having spent £20million plus on total dog shit and then appoint Mowbray and Lallana as caretaker managers until the end of the of the season, narrowly avoiding relegation - that’s the ‘Southampton Way’….
  8. You may well be right It’s odd though that we spent a considerable sum on Edozie and he’s been banished to the back of beyond yet Baz is still front and centre. Edozie hasn’t set the world alight but he is actually competent in his position
  9. There was another - WBA away a couple of years back. As someone else said it’s a boring debate now. He's so obviously not up to it but the club spent a load of money on him and whoever made that decision isn’t prepared to admit it was a bad decision even after four years. I actually think he’s got worse in that time albeit his confidence must be rock bottom so that wont help. People say McCarthy is crap but I think he’s ok for us at this level and had been in goal it’s pretty likely we would have had to clear sheets.
  10. Looks like the new guy understands the ‘Southampton Way’: Baz in goal Stephen’s in defence Five at the back Cm overrun Small guy up front on his own My only concern is that he hasn’t started with Downs but hopefully he can get him on swiftly for a full house
  11. I can’t see that was anything other than a total fuck up by the keeper and from there the team went into panic mode. Whether or not the defence should have done better doesn’t alter that. The guy had been poor again this season and was dropped yet suddenly reappeared. Why ? It spoke volumes when he began this season again as No. 1 that the philosophy of the club had not changed and we were still in a downward spiral. I said before that we won’t have turned a corner until the club move this guy on and I suspect we are more likely to offer him a new contract than do that so looks like we haven’t hit rock bottom just yet. I do however think the resigning of Romeu shows some much needed pragmatism so some brownie points for that decision
  12. when he’s in his thirties as apparently that’s when he will come good ( according to some)
  13. I think your first paragraph is spot on - his size and poor positioning means he has to ‘fling’ himself across goal whereas someone who actually is a goalkeeper would have better anticipation and not have to resort to that
  14. I find it interesting that Still goes and Baz is straight back in goal. He’s become a bit of a totem for everything that is wrong with the club and perhaps only when he leaves can we say we have turned the corner. Again tonight he looked a small ish bloke playing in goal despite having none of the attributes of a professional goalkeeper.
  15. The first half was awful. No discernible style, laboured passing and just terrible football. So boring. Two decent goals but after the Baz howler we went to pieces. That last 15 minutes was so bad it was funny. No game management just 11 men in the box hacking it away anywhere. We seemed to have no idea how to control the game - it was pure panic and we lost all shape and composure. We won and that’s about it. The thing is if the interim coach beats the owls I believe he will have as many wins as our last 5 managers each achieved and which must put him in pole position to be our next coach ! He’s already reinstalled Baz and Stephens and managed to get Downs back on the pitch. He also looked like the sort of guy who would do what he was told by whichever fuckwit(s) is running the club.
