What new ways can Southampton FC find to annoy and embarrass us this week?

That’s what I’m trying to work out. I think Archer is probably the best finisher, if we set the team up to counter attack and thread balls into him. But playing the “style” we currently play, we may as well sell him. He isn’t a target man. Can’t hold it up. Doesn’t link play, or bring others into the game. So yeah, I don’t really know. I think Stewart fits the current setup the best, but we all know he’ll play 10 minutes then get injured/ill/not show up. So that’s pointless too. Honestly, I dislike all the options and would be happy to sell all of them tbh. We just need to play a system that gets the best out of our players we have. We seem to do the exact opposite of that since SR arrived.

Sell all of them and start from scratch? Tbh lighthouse does have a valid point. This is the same club that bought the tallest striker in the league and never crossed to him. If we bought Messi we’d probably try pinging balls into the air at him. But which of our current strikers is good enough to warrant building a team around ? Archer?

I can definitively say. The previous squad was way better. We progressively get fucking worse under these helmets. I would trade all of our current strikers for Che - and I didn’t even rate him that highly. But at least he could actually control a football and win the ball. Then bring others into play. All these lot do is give the ball away and miss open goals .. it’s fucking embarrassing. To be honest, the main thing that is making me furious is the fact that the new manager is making the exact same mistakes as before. I honestly would prefer if he came in and played 4-4-2 with archer and downs together or something. At least it would be new. Instead it’s just more of the same fucking shite, trying to be too clever with a shit 5 at the back formation, passing it sideways, pinging crosses into no one… PLAY TO YOUR PLAYERS’ STRENGTHS. FFS.

Because the team was set up to help him score goals. They played through balls into him. He’s a good poacher that runs the channels etc. Only saints are dumb enough to play crosses into archer/arma etc. For some reason we never play to our players strengths.

Yep. Couldn’t agree more. Sadly we are a fucking basket case under SR. We didn’t even give him minutes in the championship ? We’ve treated our prospects very weirdly the last few years tbh.

I don’t think anyone is expecting us to smash every team. But to lose to 10 men, at home, with our budget vs theirs is genuinely a fucking embarrassment. I know we are used to being embarrassed by this football club now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Worst part for me is that both last season & this season we have been bailed out by youth players appearing from nowhere. Dibling & now Robinson have spared Sport Republic’s blushes.. So even though we had the shittest forward line in PL history, that’s proving to be not even championship level… the only minor positives are a fluke.

You have a valid point that the squad is shit and makes no sense. We have a load of nothing midfielders, with no stand out characteristics But that doesn’t mean we need 5 at the back against Stoke at home, sorry. Stupid

Of course you can. Get an extra man in the middle instead of 3 shite centre backs and we would have a chance of controlling a game instead of being passengers. This formation, with these players is absolutely idiotic. Woll Still is making the exact same mistakes that the last few managers have made. 95% of the fan base can see the same issues, yet the club can’t.

That’s my biggest criticism If you love this awful formation, why didn’t he bed it in during preseason? Just odd, inconsistent management as usual in recent years.

Absolutely fuckin atrocious. Literally exposes our weaknesses and doesn’t do anything to play to our strengths (not that we have many) Dont get it at all, especially at home.

We aren’t going to be lucky enough to scrape up through the playoffs again. We’re in big trouble. Whole squad is fucking toilet. And the recruitment is not improving at all. No strength, no patterns of play. Just an absolute nothing team. The strength & desire from Stoke is just completely alien to this bunch of dossers.
