Amen. Couldn’t agree more with this. Football died the day the Sky Sports Premier League was formed and has been getting worse ever since. The big clubs are untouchable, meaning the premier league is no longer a sport. Id prefer to stay in the championship if it didn’t mean being raided over & over again. Proper fans, proper football. All clubs of our size are stuck between a rock and a hard place really. You have to strive to be the best you can be, but there is a glass ceiling formed by money & corruption.

Absolute gaslighting tosh. Everyone is happy at the recent results, it’s the playing style people were rightly questioning plus the ridiculously leaky defence. Martin has had a good couple of weeks, but stop pretending it has been an amazing season so far. If he can keep these performance levels up then he will earn the fans trust. But not before.

I think a big part of the issue is that we have had multiple managers in succession which do bat shit crazy stuff and get the worst out of the team. It means the fans question bat shit tactics and performances when they see them more quickly and he has been given less of a grace period. But this week shows that he is doing something right. Continuing to select Bree after mannings shocking performances, making decent substitutions yesterday and our all round game was very good. Long may it continue and credit to him.

😂😂 harsh but fair. I think he forgets that we have seen genuine world class managers and talent at the club in the very recent past. I am willing to give him a chance, but let’s be real Russ, you need to prove that you are like 10% as good as a Poch or a Koeman. Saints fans are a patient bunch but we know what world class coaching looks like and it isn’t conceding 4 goals a game, conceding from your own corners and stubbornly playing a system that doesn’t suit the playing squad. Realistically he is very, very lucky that our batshit owners have appointed him based on his record.

Agree with this. Honestly think we’d have more points if we appointed a Warnock/Allardyce and started going 4-4-fucking-2. We aren’t getting the best out of the players, we are shoehorning them into a “system”. He seems to be trying to reinvent football at the cost of both results & entertainment. I was looking forward to the championship as a breath of fresh air and finally being a good side in the league. But it has been basically quite boring & shit so far - no matter how many times he tells us the games are brilliant. And that’s mostly down to his style of football.

Would love to see us go at Birmingham from the start. Would love to see signs that this system can be successful and lead to us smashing someone. Unfortunately I assume it will be another pedestrian affair with us knocking it around between midfield and defence like it’s a training game.

Pros: - Good hair - Likeable guy - Speaks well - Seems to have fostered some team spirit that we were missing - Has made some positive subs that have changed games Cons: - Worst defence in the league - Poor from set pieces (both ends) - Boring, tedious football - System doesn’t bring the most out of any of our players. (We don’t have Xavi, Iniesta & Busquets in midfield) - Not really seeing signs of progress yet Mitigating factors: - Cheap skate owners sold most of our best players and replaced with budget, loans & dross. (Still have some PL quality players though) - Has a big job turning the whole club around - we were a shit show Verdict: Underperforming with the squad he has. This league is pretty poor and this team should be doing better. Think he deserves a bit more time but we really need to start seeing better performances. Some of the passing and moving the last couple of games was SO ponderous.

I don’t want another manager change either. It is painful for the club & players to keep swapping manager. But Martin isn’t cutting it so far. Bad performance after bad performance, being bailed out by the PL quality players that we retained. He probably still deserves a bit more time but I hope he is under some pressure internally. Performances are not good enough.

As shit as they all are, it’s the system. Even Haaland or prime shearer wouldn’t get a look in plying with these tactics. How many dangerous balls do we play in? How many counter attacks do we have? Fuck all. We dick about in midfield, meanwhile the opposition sets up into a nice 11 man defensive block and easily cancels out any attacks. The manager is making us worse than the sum of our parts. We cant defend very well, and we can’t attack very well, despite having some of the best players in the division.

Think we were very poor for 80-85 mins but turned it on as Hull got tired. Something to build on now though. Can’t ever knock a late winner

The teams that get promoted from this league battle hard, do the basics well & look solid defensively. You then need a player or two with good finishing skills to put away any chances which come your way. We do literally none of those things. It worries me that it was Jack Stephens that had to instil some discipline. Isn’t that literally the managers job?

Sorry, that sounds way too much like common sense. We are Southampton, we couldn’t possibly approach the game of football with any of that.

I think so. His performances since the transfer window closed have been worse than shocking. We now there is talent there, but he has been pathetic really

Can someone please ask why we never counter attack or try and catch teams on the break? We let teams re-set and get back defensively, meaning it’s impossible to break them down

When you see the facts written down like that it is genuinely laughable how bad our owners are. A Pompey fan trying to fuck us over could hardly have done much worse

Dunno, I thought he did a good job at Derby. He earned a ton of respect from me for staying on without a wage through all their financial woes etc. This will be his first proper test and I have a feeling he will do OK. Could be wrong of course
