I've never understood the constant hounding and criticism of Stephens. Certain people on here seem pretty obsessed with him tbh. Always found it strange to dislike one of our own players so much. I agree with the fact he's a fairly mediocre player with clear flaws in his game but there's only marginal differences between him and Bedders and THB.

ABK didn't really make much difference the year he played for us as we were relegated on 26 points.

From where I was sat you could see Stephens turn back at the ref and shout "Fu** you"

THB mistake cost us the Forest game and the first Brentford goal and I'm worried he'll not be an upgrade on Stephens as he's looked out of his depth so far this season. Hopefully he'll settle down with a run of games. Last season Stephens started in 4 of our 11 defeats. He didn't start the two 5 goal thrashings or the 4 goal home defeat by Leicester either. Average player with flaws.. Basically the same as our other defenders just vilified more than the others for some reason.

I like Stephen's, we generally win more games when he plays and finish higher up the league going by previous seasons. ..probably cursed him now🤐

Totally agree. Just as the game is about to start the stadium announcer encourages the fans to get right behind the boys today. Then we reward two fantastic passionate fans who at that time were really galvanising the crowd and you felt the team were being lifted. Then it all changed and the Northam focused their anger at these hapless jobsworths and the atmosphere completely changed. We blew it today because of Che missing two easy chances and a couple of Stewards.. Fucking mental.

He had the most uncanny ability to pass accurately to the opposition. Almost as if he was colour blind and as you say he was hated and ridiculed for a number of years and some held onto that till the end. Most of us though were gradually won over by his tenacity and fighting spirit. He truly represented us as a proper Southampton lad.

Fair comment mush. Love reading all the different opinions on here, just not the hysterical and abusive ones aimed at the players or manager.

We are not clinical enough. That's the biggest for me today and plenty of other times this season. We are often far better than the oppo but Sully and Arma are the worst culprits in missing guilt edged chances. Armstrong is baffling. He works really hard and has a great goals and assists record this season but he often shoots way over the bar or scuffs shots like an 8 year old. Sully cannot generate any power either when he breaks free on the left and cuts in. We end up leaving the back door open rather than get to 3 nil and you've buried them. Oh for a classy Ryan Fraser finish.

Same as the Hull home defeat. THB and Bedders at CB. KWP and Manning the fullbacks. Don't get me wrong that is our best CB pairing, but any reason to slate Stephens is always jumped on ..so weird.. Has he made loads of mistakes this season? Hes a good player at this level, that's why Martin plays him.

Chelsea are midtable whilst Liverpool are top of the Premier League. Leeds are bang in form and are a better team than us. We are out of form. We rested our players because we have 3 league games in the next 7 days. They still at various points had Van Dyke, Gomez, Konate, Elliot, MacCallister and Gapko on the pitch.

I like Stephens. I think he's a better fit for us compared to Holgate. We all can see his failings but he plays in a way that suits our style. He's a good captain who loves this club and is a decent back up to Janny and Taylor.

I just done a bit of quick research on your town and club and Wiki says you have a population of just over 40,000 but you have a 25,000 seater stadium! It's a shame to see you sat bottom of Ligue 2 and it's not looking good for you guys as currently you look a little adrift of your nearest relegation rivals. Fingers crossed for a big upturn in your fortunes. Maybe we can loan you our French striker Sekou Mara. What sort of crowds do you get and is there discontent with Sports Republic?. Last season when we're relegated from the Premier League Rasmus Ankerson was behind some of the more poor decisions the club made. Thankfully he's taken more of a back seat now and we have a proper director of Football in Jason Wilcox.
