Come to something though doesn’t it when a goalkeeper plays 90 plus minutes , for 46 games a season for a club and we are highlighting a grand total of 2 saves he’s made that you’d call great saves , in amongst relentlessly not saving shots he should do. Just got in from the game. How’d he go tonight? Guessing a calm assured solid performance where he slipped largely under the radar and didn’t draw attention to himself at all?

Just got back. Very good performance, everyone giving their all. Other than the first 20 mins of the second half I thought we were very dominant and could’ve scored more than we did. Downes absolutely immense again and thrived as captain. 3 out of 3 at home with 11 goals scored, St Mary’s has potential to be a fortress for us this season if we keep this level of intensity up. We tend to also do better against sides who come to attack us such as the last 2 sides we’ve played here.

Remember this well as it was also our first 3rd tier game for decades at home to Millwall. Couldn’t believe it when I heard the score. That keeper didn’t play again im pretty sure? Also Gunn was sacked after another couple of games and replaced by lambert who was Colchester manager that day, who then took Norwich to the title, and beat Colchester away 5-0 in the reverse game!

The stoke error was a godsend for us really as even SR wouldn’t have been able to integrate him back into our squad after that, on top of his performances for us before hand.
