Talking of stewards the newcastle stewards have to be the most over the top heavy handed bunch i've come across in the ground, we had a woman near us who was on some sort of insane power trip and doing her best to cause trouble, the police actually had to remove her from the away section due to the problems she was causing. As much as i love newcastle for the piss up the actual experience in the ground is terrible (and the less said about our ability to get anything there the better)

It's a brilliant view of the city and you can pretend you're playing sensible soccer with the view of the pitch

The whole Skates/Scummers things is fairly recent, think it was the pompey fanzine named after the game in 88 that did the original story (stolen from millwall originally) about the made up dock strike and the bullshit name of Scum/Scummer. Then the Ugly Inside (when it was a paper fanzine) responded with choosing the name Skate for them based on the fact it's what they called matlows and would annoy them. Somehow it's got a bit lost in recent years and a lot of our own social media nippers seem to want to share the made up crap about the dock strike (despite the fact that it was us who had a strike and them that broke it) -

Funny to think these debate have been going on for decades now, i found this from an old copy of On The March on just this topic, turns out everything new is old Also interesting side note when i was looking the Ugly Inside fanzine had suggested new songs, this one from the 90s shows we used to call pompey scummers too -

Always love this part of the season, everyone screams and shouts about how much they hate the kit and how bad it is, then in a few weeks time everyone buys it and wears it to games 🤣 -

I reckon the club should make this the banner instead -

A shoal of fish to represent our catchment in the solent? And a tracksuit and tinny to represent basingrad? Maybe a bus replacement service or two? If you really do want to go typographic then why not spell out southampton using the names of the places of the city? Hinkler, Thornhill, Millbrook, Swaythling, Portswood, Flower roads etc. To be honest though i think what has the most impact is stuff that references the city itself, keep us grounded in what Southampton football club is about, the city of Southampton, instead of some marketing slogan or something close to a banner with tourettes who's suddenly seen a stand in the ground. -

Said this on the ugly, Generally speaking in design less is more, personally i'd drop off a lot of the crap wording and go with something incredibly simplistic. It's always a good rule that if you've got words on a flag or banner remove them, because nearly every single time that's what's making it look shit (and the more you add the worse it looks) A line drawing of the cities major landmarks would be so much better than most of this stuff, or something similar to this, -

Those flags are fucking awful, they look like they've been "designed" by a kid who's experience of football is playing FIFA on the computer and not someone that's ever been to games. Also why would we have a flag that uses the words to a song the skates have used for years (pompey till i die). -

can anyone mock it up in a XXXXL over a grey hoody and beer belly, and with a 'Spoons breakfast down the front. Just so we can see what it'll look like on a matchday?- 1309 replies

@Noodles34 as you know mush i'm heartbroken, he was a wonderful kid, a great mate and it'll leave a hole that will never get filled. Like you say football won't be the same without Top Boy there and my heart goes out to you and your family. I'm going to miss him so much, his wind ups, his constant enthusiasm for Saints and Southampton, his desire to chat to all and sundry at away games and his sense of humour (sometimes not at the most appropriate moments!) RIP Top Boy

I'd be really interested to know if it's 4k more than the pre-season sale of season tickets (so ones for the whole season). or 4k more than the combined sales of season tickets and half season tickets last season (which would be far more impressive)
-
The club aren't allowing people to buy season tickets next to the away fans apparently which might explain why they're not on sale. Also seats are still being held for people to renew (even if they've already moved) so a load more will come on sale soon i guess. I'm also pretty sure that there's a cap on season tickets as a percentage of seat that all clubs have, the idea being that there should always be some tickets available to non season ticket holders (this might be out of date now but was definitely true in the past)

Don't think they've done that in years, at least not that i've seen. Wasn't just in memory of Daren's mum was for all the people they'd lost, was a nice touch I thought. Know what you mean about the old lot, there's fewer and fewer going these days, still see the likes of Clive, Al, Nick I and others around but really thin on the ground. Funnily enough Gunner popped up a couple of times last season, still his old self and doesn't seem to have aged a day, was a proper blast from the past seeing him. Still see "the postie" pretty regularly at St Mary's, but he's stopped doing aways these days. Our away support has changed massively in the last few years, don't think i've ever seen us have such a posh/middle class support in my life if i'm honest. I guess the sad truth is apart from people getting older a few have passed on, heard "jim steele" passed years back and there's definitely some who you do wonder if they're still around. A lot of it is just down to the way the games gone too, I know loads who knocked it on the head because they hated the premier league, and once you stop going it's not really a habit you get back into easily, especially away games.

Haven't seen Daren in a couple of years now but last time i saw him he'd pretty much stopped completely, think he got married a few years back and that was pretty much that for him. He also noticeably dropped off going when his mum passed. Still haven't forgiven him for the time he filled his hipflask with absinthe instead of the normal whisky he had and didn't tell me. I took a massive swig and almost throw up where i was standing 🤣 Top bloke is Daren, shame he's stopped really as those old faces where the heart and soul of the club

Southampton 1-0 Leeds - Saints are Promoted!!
franniesTache replied to TheAlehouseBrawlers's topic in Golden Posts
Realistically Leeds are probably correctly favourites. If both sides play to their best Leeds probably win as they have better strikers and players who can create something out of nothing (something we don't have). We have a better midfield and the longer it goes without them scoring the more i'd fancy our chances. Really can't call this either way to be honest, but if 40 years of watching Saints has taught me one thing it's that we're always the bridesmaids, so i'll go in expecting a loss and anything else is a bonus -
we took a few up to cardiff with us without tickets and they all found a way into the ground, it's amazing how helpful stewards will be if you put money into the retirement fund is all i'll say

Wembley Tickets - extra tickets also SOLD OUT
franniesTache replied to Harry_SFC's topic in The Saints
Do these Leeds fans really think we're that dumb we believe their wind up? Or are they that dumb they believe it's true? 🤣 Literally no Leeds fans got tickets, and I know for a fact that the club was checking on anyone who'd bought a ticket who only had Leeds on their purchase history or a Leeds address (seen at least one person who was actually Saints complain their ticket got cancelled because of a yorkshire address). It's a good try for them as a wind up though but it's getting boring now -

People like you are the heartbeat of our club, I absolutely love the fact we've got fans who've been going this long and have nothing but massive respect for you. Honestly wish the club would make more of a fuss about people like yourself, and instead of giving out free tickets to overseas "fans" who've never been to a game they did it to the people who've done it for decades 👏 -
they still haven't appeared yet though, unless the northam was all saints this friday and i didn't notice...

Not going to lie, and it might just be me, but it feels like our support have totally collectively lost their heads about this. Not only is every other post on social media about meeting the bus the local paper is now printing the weather forecast for the route 🤣 God i hope pride doesn't come before a fall, because this team have shown on multiple occasions they don't handle pressure well
-
I think it's just social media though init? There's a bunch of kids who think they're the "voice of the fans" like that public schoolboy from Trowbrdige, they don't seem to understand that most Sotonians would've just got on with it anyway. Not to make this a wool vs locals thing but I definitely think there's a big cultural difference there, I saw Nick stuck this on Illingsweb and it's spot on about those of us actually from the city A lot of these nippers have a different attitude, they want to be "seen", which isn't really that important to me. Way more important we show up in the ground than two hours before hand to sing at a bunch of millionaires getting off a bus.
-
Been pushed by the usual Saints Voice/Club mouth pieces that they are encouraging them, and to send dimensions to the club to bring drums. I actually hope the meeting the bus thing works, i mean i'll be at the boozer as i have no interest but fair enough for those that want to do it. But i draw the line at drums, they ruin atmospheres and have no. place in english grounds as far as i'm concerned https://x.com/yjw_x/status/1790308448304816542
