  1. The best description I ever heard of Rickie is that "he is basically our front", and I'd have a hard time disagreeing with that assessment. Whenever he or Lallana were absent under Adkins, I really used to fear for us, in any game. Since coming to the Prem, he's got even better, but priceless to us? Not sure. First, until we've got a new bloke in, we don't know how the team is going to line up and play next year. To your point, that probably means we shouldn't be flogging Rickie until someone comes in. However, let's not kid ourselves. If we didn't replace Rickie this year, we'd need to at some point and when that time arrives, there are not many clubs that'll offer that sort of money for a man of his age. This is just bringing the plan forward a little.
  2. Never to be heard in Salford again
  3. Not a bad point. Worth pointing out that Suarez came from the Eredivisie. Koeman might have a lot of current knowledge that English managers do not.
  4. FFS, let's wait and see, eh? I don't know how some of you get out of bed in the morning with the kind of worst-case thinking going on here. "Yeah, I wanted to go out, but was afraid I'd get hit by a meteor, so I didn't".
  5. Tickets arrived this morning. We're in Blue East campervan park.
  6. Unfortunately, it has the appearance of looking like it was "part of the script", delivered a little too early. There are other examples of the script being king, like the insistence to this day that the 19 hijackers named on the day are still the perpetrators. To me, this explanation falls flat. A building collapsing is a fairly big event; until the first tower went, no-one even thought it possible that day. You'd think they'd get that right.
  7. What part of that article actually addresses the specific problem of someone reporting an event before it has happened? The comments section is far more illuminating.
  8. Yes, that's the one. WTC 7 a.k.a. Salomon Brothers Building. Does make you wonder why she's reporting it.
  9. The "working out" on these two recent blows is clear for all to see. Poch paid himself out of his own contract to the tune of 2 mil. Bugger all the board could do to stop that. As for SRL, we bought him to get out of L1, and that we've achieved. The man was written off by many as "not good enough" every time we got promoted and when called up to the England squad. It is to his eternal credit that he keeps proving people wrong, but we all know that his best years will soon be behind him. FWIW, I don't think he'd have considered anyone apart from Liverpool. It adds up to me right now.
  10. Does it make that much difference? He's been picked on his Saints form. We all know that. With the younger players, it absolutely makes a difference. They can come out of the WC worth millions more, depending on how good they are. Rickie is 32. Let's split the difference between 4m and 9m and say the fee is around 6m. Is his value really going to increase beyond that? The fee might even reflect LFC's desire to do business now.
  11. Strange times at SaintsWeb towers, so I'm glad this thread exists. Now I say all this as someone that is thoroughly miserable after a Saints loss, elated after a big win and also, someone who spends far too much time on here. I don't understand the hysteria, certainly not in the context of my lifelong position as Saints supporter, and I'm a mere 39. Take the Lambert situation as an example. Considering the situation without emotion, that could be a good move for all concerned as long as the fee is right. We can spend the money on the next bright young thing ( whether that's transfers or training costs ), Rickie gets to complete his dream and we remember one of our legends at the peak of his powers. That's not going to wreck our future prospects, nor will it ever remove the transformative effect we've had on Lambert's career. This is a bloke that, come what may, will always say good things about the club. He is an advertisement for why you should play for Saints. Any lower league player we fancy is going to look at Lambert's success and consider Southampton favourably. There are huge positives to be taken from the move, this kind of thing happens all the time - so I don't understand the focus on the negative. Maybe it's just a case of "you can only play what's in front of you" for the doom-merchant crowd. Relatively speaking, this is a period of turmoil for the club - but it's nowhere serious as what we've seen before, and we've never been in a better spot to secure decent replacements for those that move on. Sorry. Can't get angry about it.
  12. Worth bearing in mind...
  13. Rickie has been an immense servant for this club. I'd hoped he'd finish his career with us, but let's be honest - this might be best for all around. One of the lads I go to SMS with jokingly shouts "use your pace, Rickie!" at him quite a bit. Though pace has never really been what his game is all about, he is getting older and the day will come where he won't make the first team, and no-one will call for it. Not sure about the 4m. On paper, it's a good fee - but we're unlikely to be able to get too much with the cash afterward. Gotta let him go if the dosh is right though, if only to complete the full circle Rickie Lambert saga. (get the fkn movie rights, tho' Saints )
  14. I refer sir to the below; it has been a long thread - so no snarkiness intended. Planes are necessary for the official narrative..... None of the explanations above mandate the physical existence of planes. Obscuring the means of destruction still works; the "one we made earlier" list of suspects still flies too. This isn't the first time that the distinction has been discussed directly. KRG asked me about it.
  15. I bet Aldershot don't have these problems
  16. Yeah, I know. Was being naughty. If I'm honest, inFamous is the only game on the PS4 I've put serious solo hours, but I've really enjoyed playing the likes of FIFA with my brothers ( both have bought their own PS4s in recent weeks ). As a PC owner, I'm really selective about what I buy on which platform anyway. I'm playing the new Wolfenstein on PC; 15 quid cheaper, single-player only and better on PC - no brainer. It'll be a while before there are super games out for either. Speaking of which, Mario Kart 8 lands tomorrow. Doubt much apart from that will be played for some time.
  17. Print this post out and stick it on the front of your XBox One. It'll cheer you up when playing your bang average games
  18. Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4? That's a swath, is it? In both cases, XBox One runs even lower (792p and 720p respectively). Titanfall is 792p, btw. PS4 vs XBox One resolutions and framerates
  19. Back on-topic, just seen this on my FB feed. http://tellmenow.com/2014/05/video-proof-showing-no-planes-hit-the-wtc-on-911/ Pertinent to OP, but I want to see how this fares for a bit before coming to a view.
  20. Harry and Paul's Story of the Twos The history of BBC2, as rendered through the medium of Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse sketches. Extremely amusing show which somehow manages to give a sense of how BBC2 changed over the years. They recreate some of the channels most famous shows, so the more you've seen, the funnier it is. I'm a big fan of Harry and Paul and something of an apologist for their later work, which can be a little patchy. This seems perfectly suited to their talents. They're both excellent impressionists (ably supported by a familiar supporting cast) and they've always been skilled at knowing exactly what to take the píss out of. This is probably the best single episode they've done since 1994.
  21. I've got the email to say that they're on the way. They haven't arrived just yet, though. Meetups? Sure. From the sounds of it, the rest of the clan are going to fk off and do stupid things that ought to be illegal (like listening to Ed Sheeran). DP and I definitely look to be in the same neck of the woods anyway.
  22. Not really. Tim was building gently up to call me an anti-semite, citing Verbal's oft-repeated similar claims as evidence. According to Netanyahu, anyone supporting the BDS boycotts is an anti-semite, and he should know, so I was covered on that anyway. aintforever wants me specifically to produce a theory for some reason. I'm more than happy to discuss this, as I did when you asked a reasonable question.
  23. Buccaneers press release http://www.buccaneers.com/news/article-1/Bucs-Owner-Malcolm-Glazer-Passes-Away/93db9a70-e779-4653-a4e5-4dc7991365c0
  24. Bagsy the interpreter job
  25. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your posts, Phil. They're very entertaining, but take a while to unpick. I've been looking at the full line-up, and apart from following the sound advice you've provided so far, I'm really making no plans in terms of what I'm doing anymore. There is a dizzying array of stuff going on. It'll stress me out too much to choose, although one big condundrum is Arcade Fire vs Kaiser Chiefs. Have you seen the 1D fans ripping their tickets up because 2 of the band mates filmed themselves smoking weed? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2641403/One-Direction-joint-video-upsets-fans-rip-tickets-demand-apology.html Bang goes the US touring career, lads! I liked the story about you potentially getting a nosh, but am disappointed with your closing skills.
