At the moment, the PS4 has got NetFlix, LoveFilm, iPlayer, 5 on Demand and a few other TV services. I watch Netflix on it; the US DNS hack works fine. NTSC is a broadcast standard that runs at 60Hz. The PS4 runs at 60Hz, like the XBox, but doesn't have the burden of having to piggy-back a 50Hz PAL broadcast signal - so it's just 60Hz all the way with no broadcast standard to accommodate. Microsoft are trying to solve a problem that doesn't need solving. TV integration in the UK boils down to this. You pay £430 for a machine that you'll need to keep powered on 24/7 to watch inferior TV. We're using a series of games to gauge performance. COD is one of them. Funnily enough, the frame-rate issues are down to the PS4 chucking out too many frames ( like your XBox One TV mode ), creating a judder effect. It's explained in full here:- http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-whats-fixed-and-whats-not-in-the-cod-ghosts-ps4-patch

Sir Bucks of Saint arrives. Fanfare Col's view is shared by anyone with an out-of-date lens prescription or alternatively, you own a single television which is merely HD ready (or worse). If you're in either of those two camps, you're golden. I actually need a new prescription, so an XBox One might be a good short-term buy. I certainly don't think pixels are everything, but they're a huge component in the overall fidelity of an image. Really it comes down to horsepower, and how much of it is available to service the games that are running. TechRadar does a reasonably balanced comparison on all aspects of the console. http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/ps4-vs-xbox-720-which-is-better-1127315 I never knew that you had to have a Gold subscription to buy apps on the XBox One until I read that article. Tsk, Microsoft

Hardly, Smirkers. I'm doing what a woman does when she knows she's right; staying the f**k on point. The valiant defenders of the XBox One are doing what women do when they know they're wrong; flailing in all directions with the most dubious of arguments. Nolan has put the ocular capacity of his family on the line! "My wife and kids can't see the difference!" Col's ploughing a different rut with a solid assertion that the difference between 900K pixels and 2 million is "marginal". Sorry, mate - but I don't point out the fact they're talking bunk, someone else might, and it might not be as personally amusing for me.

No, I'm actually trying to get an example on YouTube. Picture tells a thousand words and all that.

I wasn't really interested in a wallet shaking contest either, especially not in January. I just don't take commands particularly seriously unless properly motivated. While "stuff I want to post" sometimes intersects with "stuff that doesn't bore Smirking", it's probably not going to be the case here. Foaming fanboys irk me when they talk b*llocks, especially when people are asking for decent advice. Should their buyer remorse really be the platform for more pain?

NES and Master System. SNES and Megadrive. Seriously; this is the first time I haven't got them all.

They say that sports events and tickers are worst affected. This bloke gives a good 2 minute overview. Some choice quips on the comments thread of the original EG article I posted:- XBoxUSA XBox One (country) Seriously, why should a UK gamer pay money justified by functionality that doesn't work properly? The best solution will involve an OS update that performs the switch automatically, but I'd imagine the screen would blink as it switches over to the new signal. Microsoft have yet to comment.

He's spunked the lot on deep-fried Mars bars by Monday.

I'm no chemist, Dubai Phillip, but how does smoking weed in Amsterdam put codeine in your system three weeks later? Is this yet another positive weed story stoners like to tell themselves to feel better about their puffing proclivities? "Hey man, stop typing that screenplay and read this; weed creates codeine, man. Officially confirmed by the Arabs that own dubai phil, dude!"

This month's PS4 giveaway is Don't Starve, ported from the PC. I wouldn't expect to see too much free stuff on PS4 in the early days, simply because there aren't many titles to give away. I think Resogun is still free too. If you've got other Sony hardware, January is a bit of a bumper month. Full deets below:- http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/12/13/playstation-plus-in-january-dmc-soul-sacrifice-borderlands-2-more/

Anyone who has Chrome, right click on anything you want to edit, and choose "Inspect Element". You can then enter your own text. Works on any web page but only takes effect on your machine.

Been done already, but it's so damn trivial to produce a screenshot of a fake tweet. It's built into Chrome, FFS. If you can't see the Tweet yourself, it probably didn't happen.

In potentially related news, Lord McAlpine, named and unnamed as a paedophile during the Steven Messham revelations, has died. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but Gordon Anglesea, former Chief Superintendant was arrested last month on historical allegations of sexually abusing kids in the North Wales care system. http://paddyfrench1.wordpress.com/2014/01/16/gordon-anglesea/ It'll be interesting to see what revelations shake out of a trial, if it happens. One comment I've seen made a few times is that the Beeb paid McAlpine off quick-smart, yet haven't given any compensation to Savile's victims yet.

C'mon now. NC is not dead. Libel laws still apply, I feel.

As I've said before, we operate on a 30 minute news cycle. I'm always interested in what gets editorialised for public consumption. -

Point proven. One UKIP nutter taken as reflective as whole That's why the story made the news. -
Not everyone is on a vote-winnin' popularity drive, kidda. Also, the only time I do what someone tells me to is when they're paying me or I want to do it anyway. I'll forward you my hourly rates if you're interested

They probably chose not to touch it because of the inherent problems in resolving 60Hz and 50Hz signals. Makes me laugh that all the XBoners are on here telling you how great it is. No-one's mentioned the screen judder, have they? The one thing that sets it apart doesn't work in the UK
-
One of the big draws of the One is TV integration, correct? So how do you propose they solve the basic difference between 50Hz and 60Hz? Why are my posts about the technical capabilities of the machines? Why are your posts all about your specific wants? Which do you think more useful for a prospective purchaser?
-
No-one's really making themselves look like idiots except the people who are pretending black is white. As a prospective XBox One owner, how do you feel about the TV-in being broken in the UK ( or with a workaround, requiring the user to muck about with settings every time you switch between game and TV )? http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-25-xbox-one-tv-integration-suffers-noticeable-judder-in-uk

You ever wonder why this is a story? Why does this deserve the level of public attention it's getting? -
Console tax is always worth factoring in, I reckon.

It's not a case of agreeing with me. It's simply about recognising that the PS4 is a more performant machine, and when cross-platform games do diverge in graphical fidelity, it comes out on top. This isn't my opinion here; it's based off the various face-offs I've seen between comparable games in the specialist press. As for your accusation that I've added nothing to the debate. So far, we've talked about resolution, performance, price, the commercial implications of the PS4's early lead, the vaunted status of lead SKU and the impact of the Japanese market. If I was just trying to put out the fires of second-hand opinions, my word count would be a lot less.

Aw, bless Col. I'm sorry your perception filters have processed this information in this way. There are only so many ways I can say "you're wrong" with justification before it starts to sound rude.
