I'm not bothered with looking up the table now. Saints have blown any chance of automatic promotion. Given the recent poor form it's now more important to look at those teams behind Saints with a view to holding on to 4th place. A 2nd leg at home in the play-offs could be important.

Start with replacing the manager. Russell has shown the world that he'll never be more than a middling Championship manager. That's his level.

Weren't the defensive frailties of Martin's system identifiable as long ago as the game at Reading? And here they still are. Eight games now in which to prepare for the play-offs. First job will be to make Saints hard to beat. I'd start with dropping Bazunu but I suspect Martin will keep on doing the same thing in some forlorn hope that it'll result in a different outcome.

Next 8 games should be treated as preparation for the play-off tournament. Baz has had his chance but has blown it. Drop him. Endlessly practice penalties. Hope that the Loch Ness Drogba comes to the surface and causes some ripples. And then if that doesn't work prepare for another season in the Championship with an old rivalry rekindled.

It looks to me like there's nobody in that team who has any belief in this system. More points chucked away in the last minute in a matter of days. There's no way this team will even reach Wembley for the play-off final. I'd suggest kicking the manager into touch right now because he clearly can't handle promotion from this league.

Saints just don't have the strength to go on and win games like this. That game was a pointer to what will happen in the play-offs and shows that we'll be in the Championship for many seasons to come. Welcome to Stoke 2.0.
