Iirc then a 'bit' is like a microscopic switch. It' either a 1 (on) or a 0 (off). Try to picture it as pixel ( what you see when you zoom right in ona digital image) but smaller. 8 bits make up a bite and a megabite is 8 to the power of 10 ie 1024. That's why the actual size of a computers memory is slightly more than the oft quoted size, people round them down to 1,000.

Paying cash to in hand keeps the money in circulation though. Paying it to a company see's some creamed off, often offshore. Paying cash in hand ensures it will eventually get spent back into the system. I'm Probably missing something here and will get flamed but that's as I see it froma simple man's perspective. I would like to see a hike in VAT as it is directly linked to ones disposable income. Obviously I do not think that everything attracting VAT currently would fall into the VAT category in my world but I like the principle.

The crest bit is true though.

Keep up the good work lads. I sense overwhelming public support, a cutback too far perhaps.

Anyone know the best place for mento offload an old 1970's iirc book about the history of Southampton airport? It goes right back to the early days of flying with some very good b/ w photos. A very interesting read, a bit bigger than A4.

It's just a phone Jeff, it's not as if it's an iPhone is it. Playing now actually and yes, very cool phone and mrs h loves me long time. Lovely feel and as versatile as my iPhone but I'd have to say much more professional in appearance. Leather case is gonna be handy as she tends to just chuck everything in her bag so I won't need to nag her anymore about that. NB For sale, crappy Walkman phone, pink with knackered battery life. Not really, it's going in the 'phone drawer' along with all the other ones. -
Red lights are for car drivers as it is they who NEED TELLING when to slow down. Just observe the courtesy or lack of at a roundabout, almost no existent. Cyclist in general much like motorcyclists have some sixth sense that I believe many car drivers are jealous of. I am a very rare cyclist but Tge feeling when freewheeling along is very embracing. I'd go as far as to say that cycling is probably the next best travel experience to driving a convertible. I also loved seeing those Boris Bikes, brilliant and very popular.

Well I am afraid that I would not have fell into that zero emissions category the other week, I shat myself every time I had to make a right turn. But point taken.

Can mrs h and I pop over and you show her how good it is [sic] and how to work it please? We are in soton area and free this evening. No commitment to buy and let me know if you'd consider a lower offer as I'd hate to offend you. -
I'd probably use the works shredder, it's a big beefy beast with Tge advantage of knowing the bin men will actually turn up at some point. I came across a shoebox full of old love letters under the bed in our spare room too. All from and to mrs h and myself I hasten to add. God, were we really that depraved!!! I'm lucky to get a smiley text nowadays let alone graphic promises of debauchery.

Bank statements. I've got hundreds, in fact I still have a whole 5 year file separate from my failed bank charges refund appeal. That's going to be my first shredding job on Thursday. It'll be a tough moment my first wage slipmformm1980 gets the treatment but they too are going Actually, anyone know the law on bonfires? I love bonfires and even my old man getting hauled down the guard room back in 1976's heatwave after the army MP's collared me for my treehouse bonfire in the woods hasn't quelled my love of fire and bonfires, I can watch one for hours.

Life laundry in full swing. How far back should one keep bills invoices etc? For example, is there any point in keeping more than one gas bill? Old mortgage statements and home and car insurance certificates are another thing I have tended to hoard.

Hardest ****ing Years/Schools in Southampton...
hamster replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Lounge
A school isn't 'hard' until it's had to be renamed....twice. Upbury Manor, although in Kent still qualifies as the hardest school in Southampton. It's a bit like asking for the toughest soldier in the boy scouts. -
