Jesus Christ, how am I defending him? I marched in protest of him and happily chanted about him being swung from the Itchen bridge. All I'm saying is the overspending in the championship didn't happen while he was in charge - someone else said that Wilde came in after Lowe had overspent and cleared the club out in the lead up to Markus takeover, which I replied saying wasn't correct. Fucking hell.
-
...right? Did you read the post I was referring to where someone was saying he is poor in the air? I was clearly disagreeing with them, I think he does win a lot of headers. However it was still a surprise to find out he tops the list of aerial duels won for forwards in the league, especially a league that contains Chris Wood.
-
This simply isn't true. In fact, and even I'm surprised by this, on Premier League Miscellaneous Stats | FBref.com it shows that Onuachu won a higher percentage (61.2%) of aerial duels than any other forward in the league, coming 34th out of all players in total.
-
I remember all of that. However I still think it's unfair to blame him for overspending when the majority of that happened in the time in between his two stints. Lowe was consistently criticised for being too tight with money, not overspending. Slight correction though, he didn't really sack Pearson - his contract was up and he never renewed it, again allegedly at the time because Pearson wanted too much money.
-
I think you're misremembering. Wilde came in for the Burley playoff season and the season after, massively overspent and then Lowe came back to try and cut costs to a minimum and we ended up with the Poortvliet season where we went down.
-
Trying to talk about Liverpool here mate, keep it on topic please.
-
Wasn't that Saints go Wilde! that did that?

It's called summertime with no football on. It makes you desperate for something football related to mention.
-
They are much more thorough at identifying their targets i'll give them that. While other teams are spending £60million to replace a player they spent £50million on two seasons ago, Liverpool spend £70million on the right player and have him for 5+ years.
-
Oh is she not actually a blood relative? I just remember seeing the articles and wanting to tear my eyes out.
-
I thought maybe he had one for every prem team or something, but nope. Look at the players he's got up there alongside it ffs!
-
It's a shame really when you see the news article from a while back about what a young female relation of his is actually up to. Shameful.
-
For the love of god, don't put it on a white background. Just use the logo, with a thin black outline to make it stand out if needs be.
-
See Liverpool are scraping in the bargain bin once again with their £109million bid for Wirtz. I love the narrative their fans (and Klopp for some reason) comes out with that they don't spend huge amounts.
-
Never before has "I know who wears the trousers in that relationship" had so many different interpretations.
-
What's wrong with him is his surname reminds me of an ugly bloke called Nigel that came from Pompey and helped Harry get us relegated.
-
I think something that's missed in the fans not warming to Puel is his treatment of Fonte in that last season. No doubt in my mind that if he'd been starting every game, domestic and europe, as he wanted to be that he would have stayed.
-
Aldeweireld. Him and Van Dijk never played together, though.
-
Agreed, but the fact he did well last season probably means he'll attract a Prem club. Burnley or Leeds would love a player like him.
-
You forgot Fonte? Shame on you.
-
Everything he does Onuachu does better anyway. I find the ostracization of him utterly bizarre, especially if we aren't planning on replacing him and are instead just going to use an inferior, more injury prone version of him.
-
No guarantee they'll turn the slide around at all. Just over 10 years ago they were non-league.
-
Yeah I'm not writing him off but whoscored I find to be pretty spot on with their assessments of players. Some work to do there then.

Reading through the thread seems like the consensus is we don't want Saudi money anywhere near our club, which I'm pleasantly surprised at. Hopefully it doesn't happen. *Edit - pleasantly surprised, not presently 🤦🏼♂️
