There is always a balance to be had between squad depth, and unused players. The problem is amplified by having a really decent U21 side. A number of those players are pressing for a place now. I'd imagine Frazer is happy to see his career out here now. He's a decent utility player and doubt he makes a fuss. Edwards, Aribo, Edozie, Matsuki, Archer, and sick note Stewart are really too expensive to keep hanging around. None has a future in the PL so time to get rid, one way or another. Downs needs a loan, and Jelart will be sent back. No room for him in the treatment room. Frightening as well when you consider how many players Saints have out on loan. The wage bill must be crippling. Major major clear out required.

Bragg coped fine at Charlton, and they were similar to Millwall. I'm sure he'll get the nod over Aribo. That Downes booking was definitely planned, he was hunting for it at one stage. Stephens in for Quarshie would be harsh. After the 1st 10 minutes I thought he had a good game. Jack's passing may be better but Quarshie's pace adds another element to the defence. Big question mark over Wellington for me. He looked right off the pace on Tuesday. Manning delivered two beautiful set pieces as well. I'm sure he'll start with aim to give Wellington some more minutes. I wonder when Archer will be fit. We need him in place of Downs, as there is no real back up at present. All very well him having these odd 10 minute cameos, when the game is won, but if Armstrong pulls a fetlock, we really don't want to see him come on. He just isn't ready, Oyekunle is probably a more effective back up.

Just home and having been at Charlton, it really has been a good 4 days. What a difference to the misery of previous years. What I liked about today was that Saints faced a team that had every intention of taking the game to them , and expected to win. First 10 minutes Quarshie was really nervous and Leicester put pressure on him. He pulled himself together after that. Then gradually Saints took control. Leicester were beaten well before the sending off. They were too vulnerable at the back and had lost the all important midfield battle. Jander and Azaz were everywhere. They had no answer to Scienza or Fellows, and their frustration with both led to the sending off. 2nd half Leicester were in survival mode, essentially refusing to play. Saints simply conserved energy. Lots of games coming up. Downes had to work hard for his yellow, that was clearly planned. THB had another very good game but Wood is totally the boss of that defence. He really is important to us. Might as well give it to Tonda now, I can't see a scenario where they don't.

Woke! Worlds gone mad 😂 Rugby has it right. As long as he is conscious play on.

How is that a red, ridiculous

Very much this, previous games against Leicester have usually been a battle for midfield superiority. Both teams need it to launch attacks. It will be a very interesting to see how Tonda plays this one. He has managed to get Azaz into the midfield pivot position., and pushed Fellows and Scienza forward a bit. That has made a big difference, but against weaker sides. Leicester aren't weak, far from it. They'll be working hard to stop that happening. Nevertheless they have their own problems to worry about. Not least the hapless Vestergaard.

Ha ha don't you dare change this Clarky. Typos like that are gold. I have images of a Leicester midfield of philosophers, bishops, and wise old men. Still be too much for us

Fantastic debut and just what we needed. The contrast with Downes when he came on was palpable. Now nothing against Flynn, he's a good player but he simply doesn't look to move the ball forward. His natural game is just different. We need to remember that Bragg is a youngster, they can be brilliant one day, and less so the next. It takes time for them to develop consistency. One of the reasons Southampton has had such success with academy players, is the patience shown by the club and fans. Hopefully that continues. It will be a good test of Tonda's management skills, to see how he manages this situation. We don't want another pulled hamstring on our hands, equally Bragg is going to be absolutely buzzing to play Tuesday.

Funny thing was we had to learn the words ha ha

GD is now positive, need to slam a few more in , get that number up

I didn't actually have too much of an issue with Jones as a football manager. Clearly wasn't ready for the PL but decent enough in the Championship. Problem was he came across as more than a tad unhinged at times. Imagine being in the dressing room when he loses it.
-
Oh stop giving me hope, he's be way better than some of the other names suggested. I can't see him dropping to the Championship though.
-
This is hopeless, there doesn't seem to be any solution. Tonda hasn't shown anything to suggest he'll be anything other than the next Seles, and yet the complete absence of any viable alternatives leaves him as prime candidate. Absolute indictment of SRs management. So toxic now, decent managers are staying well clear.
-
Underwhelming if true. However the talent available is desperate. Assuming the likes of Rose and Rodgers won't consider a Championship job, O'Neil was probably the pick of the bunch, God help us. Fans put paid to him quickly. I have zero faith in Tonda or SR but I'd rather they didn't make another panicky appointment that we end up regretting. However, just leave him in place and see how it goes. No need for any great announcements, we all no the score just let it run for a while. If the players settle down and start playing with confidence, then Eckert's job will be a lot easier. Avoiding any further turmoil is the only positive I can see at the moment. Even if he does turn out to be a winner then some bastard PL club will nick him.
-
Totally this, Jones, Selles, and Still were spectacularly bad appointments. Add to that Martin's frailities that led to his undoing, and keeping Ralph on too long. It is no surprise that Saints fans are in no mood for a weak appointment, or God forbid another gamble. The club obviously read this board and I'd urge them to listen for once. We'll never agree on who to appoint, nor formation, team selection, or even the kit. ..... but you'll find pretty strong agreement on who would be an unwise appointment. The response to O'Neil and Martin's names being thrown in the mix are classic examples. Equally there seems to be a fair bit of agreement on Eckert, 'maybe but not yet'. Mind you having said all that, I'm struggling to think of someone who could impact on our broken squad at the moment. Spors certainly has his work cut out.

Other than being dicked by Coventry, Wednesday have put a pretty decent fight up against other sides. QPR are above us. I wouldn't be quite so sniffly about the opposition. This league is a great leveller. It's good to see some players starting to bed in, and own their positions. That takes the pressure off a bit. Equally there are some serious holes in this squad. The GK position and CF are currently dismal. Good to see Williams get 45 mins, he definitely grew into the game. Long way from being a regular but not disgraced. Onward and upward
-
Bollocks he would, those discussions would have been with Lallana. He's an interim manager, not his place to start making wholesale changes. He's brought in a couple of U21s, that's his signature. Jack played because he was a better option than Edwards and Quarshie at the moment. Quarshie should have made the position his by now, but we are where we are.
-
If it wasn't for his links to Pompey, O'Neil would be a very short priced favourite. He was stupid to make those comments a few years back. Saints are an ideal project for him to develop his managerial skills, but he has made life hard for himself. I've no issue with his past, he's probably as good as we'll get at the moment. Annoys the life out of me that SR let decent candidates like Robins and Lampard, slip by when they had the chance. Problem for O'Neil is that he won't have any sort of leeway with a sizeable section of our supporter base. SR simply cannot afford another quick sacking. Whoever they appoint has to be given time. Carrick is a fit but I don't like his style of football, and his record is hardly inspiring. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

That stat that Bazunu has 3 wins under his belt has rocked my boat a little. Got to be a coincidence, or is it that we just can't see his impact beyond the flapping. I prefer him over McCarthy, but I refused to believe there wasn't an alternative out there in the summer.
-
A win, 3 Pts, and by tomorrow we'll forget how shit it was. Just dreadful game management at the end. Absolutely no reason to make all those subs. We looked like a plucky div 4 side.
-
In fairness Ref is going to book anyone feigning cramp. None of them have done enough
-
This is terrible , Azaz (out of position), Aribo (unfit/not bothered), and Downs (just shit) have seriously weakened the side
-
Hold on when did Aribo come on
-
Frazer Forster is available.... just saying
-
Bazunu wtf
