  1. Home v man City of course
  2. Come on City v utd or utd v City.... not fussy
  3. Get on with it! I do mot want to hear any more from Carragher.
  4. Massively underwhelming night. Flat atmosphere and no change from Ralph's style. Maitland-Niles needs to be sent back to Arsenal. He was terrible, constantly gave the ball away. Looked so not bothered. The team lacked pace, urgency, and any sort of defined system. The tactics were, hit long hopeful 40 50 yard passes, and hope our dynamic skillful forwards, would create something from it. Several flaws in that plan. JWP started on the right, then seemed to drift all over the place. He is our one major asset, and yet never seems to be played where he is most effective. A win is a win, but my God there needs to be a shake up before they meet a team that fights back. Right positives Jones changed things quicker than Ralph. JWP was moved into a more effective position and once Armstrong and Djenepo came on, Saints looked way more vibrant. Lyanco played well as a sweeper, very well actually. Be interesting to see how that fairs in the Prem. Adams had a good game, did his job, but oh my that last missed opportunity. He rightly felt the wrath of his team. So looking forward to Brighton.
  5. Agree with all those. The Steve Williams goal was amazing. I have to add a Cyrille Regis for WBA at the Dell. It was basically Cyrille playing the role of Terminator after collecting the ball at the half way line and charging towards our goal . Brutal but a worthy contender. George Best scored a beauty in the mud against Saints. Broke my heart as a 7 yo. I discussed this with him shortly before he died, when I came across him in a pub (of course). He remembered the goal, but equally remembered being kicked relentlessly by our mad centre half. That would have been Mcgrath I suspect.
  6. I assumed Bendarek hadn't made the squad. Good grief he's started one game, Gerrards last, and was subbed at half time. Plus one 2nd half sub appearance in an earlier game. How on earth does that justify a world cup place. Way off topic sorry, but unbelievable. No doubt he'll be returned to sender.
  7. We aren't 't Stoke ((yet) and I still believe there is a lot of quality in the squad for NJ to use.. Certainly enough to avoid relegation if used correctly. I couldn't give toss what tactics are used at this stage. It's all about survival at the moment. If it's route one so be it. Be Good to see Adams playing with 6 foot+ power house. Be interesting to see Lyanco and Adams up front with JWP firing passes at them at every opportunity.
  8. Fourth-round draw Wolves v Gillingham Southampton v Lincoln City Blackburn Rovers v Nottingham Forest Newcastle United v Bournemouth Manchester City v Liverpool Manchester United v Burnley MK Dons v Leicester City Charlton Athletic v Brighton
  9. City v Liverpool lovely
  10. Lincoln at home nice one
  11. He mentioned the World Cup break in his interview. Seems to view it positively as an opportunity to imprint his style and vision on the squad. ABK and Salisu may need to be quick learners. This does feel like a bonus. Other Prem teams have worked Saints out, a new improved (or different) version might present a few more opportunities for points. Something to look forward to. The Brentford game is going to be an adrenaline boosted manic event.
  12. Yes his end oroduct certainly needs work, but he's young and will learn. However he needs someone on the end of his crosses. Dejenpo can be equally tricky on the other side, although nobody has a clue what he's going to do. If we have those two players then it might be worth using them to pull defenders about a bit.
  13. That was a very fortunate win. Agree with most comments. Although I thought A Armstrong wasn't too bad, he did at least work hard. Edozie was excellent, should be a regular part of the 1st team squad now. In contrast Mara failed to take advantage of his chance. So disappointing. Perraud, S.Armstrong, and AMN. Came on and joined JWP in actually showing some class. Those are the positives, the rest was pretty dire. What on earth has happened to Aribo, he really seems to have deteriorated these last few weeks. No self respecting manager would select him at the moment. Our new manager has work to do big time. We don't look like a Prem team at all. However a win is a win, we're in the hat, so there's that.
  14. I voted no but that was with absolutely zero knowledge of him, and that is the main issue. His lack of experience is glaring, and will make it hard for him to win over fans and players. Thanks to Ralph he doesn't have the luxury of a honeymoon period. He'll need to get crucial points from Brighton, Fulham, Forest Everton, Villa, and Brentford in January. That takes Saints to 21 games. He'll need at least 10 from 18 points to give a reasonable launch pad for survival. We can also be certain the other teams will be looking to bury Saints as its a proper dog eat dog season. If he doesn't get near that mark then real panic will set in. So much depends on those games and the January transfers. It is an incredible leap of faith to see him succeed. Too much of a gamble imo, but I really hope it pays off.
  15. I just knew I'd leave out someone Morgan?? My point was that with our desperate striker resources, the manager needs to try all options. Seriously can't do any worse.
  16. I'd imagine it will be a reasonably strong side. A Armstrong Mara and Aribo need game time. Diallo needs to prove a point and Lyanco loves a cup game. Presumably Mccarthy in goal. Something like Mccarthy Payne Lyanco Ćaleta-Car Peraud Elyounoussi JWP Diallo Djenepo Mara Aribo/Armstrong Not a weak side considering the opposition. No idea of system .... who does! Key for me is seeing who Ballard or Dibling come on. We need to use either of those two asap.
  17. You're not helping 😲
  18. Potter had European experience and was a hot prospect. Still a gamble for Brighton but Jones feels like a real risk. One thing the board haven't considered is that in these days of instant social media, they have to take the fan's with them. Just imagine the scenes after a couple of bad defeats. What a mess.
  19. Totally or maybe Sturrock. Either way this has disaster written all over it.. His playing and coaching career was lower leagues. The guy won't have the respect of the players and fans. Do 't do it Saints.... please. I'm not doubting his potential, the guy clearly has something but he'd need to be the type they appoint once relegated. Earn his spurs so to speak. I'm suddenly feeling warm and fuzzy for Dyche or good old Roy.
  20. Whether we get relegated or not will depend on some decent signings in January. The defence is sorted and that needs to be celebrated. However the midfield is a car crash. Every opposition manager has pushed JWP back and ensured that our midfield is dominated. On the infrequent occasions Saints do get the ball to the forwards they simply cannot finish. Che Adams is ok imo. His work rate is excellent, but he needs quality support up front. Maybe Ballard and Dibling are worth a go. Ralph's tactics don't help, but above all else we need squad improvements. A midfield general and a striker are absolutely essential. We seem to have too many players in some positions and gaps elsewhere. All a bit of a mess and this year no-one is conveniently lying down and accepting relegation.
  21. What are you talking about, Lyanco has been ok, one error but otherwise coping with being stretched. It's 3 another back that's the problem. Bazuna has made some good saves, he couldn't do much with the goal. Elsewhere there are serious problems. midfield non existent, as usual.
  22. Great performance, zero confidence at the start. Seemed to be waiting for Arsenal to rip them apart as per the pre match billing. Turning point was Lyanco's 'cough' collision with Martinelli and Saka's booking. That seemed to knock Arsenal enough for Saints to get a grip on the game. Diallo in particular seemed to be enjoying more time to disrupt. I thought he played well. In the 2nd half they built on that and after a sublime goal I thought they would actually win it. Lyanco and Mo were superb, really bossed their side of the pitch. I think Arsenal were scared of Lyanco as they gave him a very wide berth. Put it this way any 50 50 challenge quickly became 70 30 when he was involved. I really think he is worth playing in midfield on occasion, such a dominant influence. Ref was good for us, but let's be honest if that was reversed we'd be shouting foul. Anyway who cares we've suffered too often. The league is ridiculously tight, nobody is prepared to lie down meekly this year.
  23. Adams has been immense tonight
  24. Good results tonight, if Saints manage a good win tomorrow, morale will be much improved. If is doing a lot of work there.
  25. I meant that, Romeu wasn't the same player last year. Maybe Lyanco is worth trying in that roll.
