  1. Because their gas is piped in direct from Russia. You cant just decide to burn coal in domestic gas boilers, or to import LNG from the US by ship without infrastructure.
  2. Fanny Flambe and the Smoking Pussies. Skip to 2:45 for the short of attention. Poundland has gone up in my estimation.
  3. There is a very good 2008 BBC interview with Russian foreign minister Lavrov about the Georgia crisis (Russia is still occupying two Georgian provinces) where he says they only sent troops in to protect ethnic Russians (even no-one was threatening them). He was then asked about Crimea and he categorically stated there was no way Russia was interested in Crimea and would have no involvement. I had thought Russia had changed and was now a western partner - but under Putin it has moved backwards.
  4. The other aspect is that Britain and the US guaranteed to Ukraine only 20 years ago we would protect their territorial integrity in exchange for them agreeing to give up their nuclear weapons. If we walked away from that commitment it would not only destroy our credibility but would make further disarmanent almost impossible.
  5. There are two competing issues imo. First the majority of people in Crimea probably do want to secede to Russia and they should be given a chance to vote on it in fair elections after a proper campaign. Second Putin wants to build a 'Greater Russia', extending the countries borders to anywhere significant numbers of ethnic Russians live - Georgia, Chechnya, Baltic states - and has been fomenting unrest in Ukraine with a view to taking control not just of Crimea but the whole east of the country. If they aren't stopped in Ukraine it really might become like Hitler and the Sudetenland - a much bigger problem later. What we do about it is not so easy to agree. Russia will probably try to blackmail Germany over gas supplies and exports to prevent meaningful sanctions. Some kind of rapid membership of NATO for Ukraine, and all the mutual defence that implies might be the way forward.
  6. I know the defendant slightly through work. Good for her for taking them on instead of paying up for quiet life.
  7. There are seven by him on the front page alone. Anyway its not about how many threads he starts its about the fact he infects nearly every thread with deliberately wum posts and then derails every discussion because some people cant ignore him so everybody suffers the same endlessly repetitive crap. Its no surprise this place is effectively modless if you dont allow them to do what its clear this place needs.
  8. Then you should do something about it instead of sticking your head in the sand and prtending there isnt a problem. It isnt hard to differentiate between posters occasionally posting controversial stuff for discussion and posters whose sole reason for being here is to get bites and wind up everybody else. The odd thing is why you indulge him at the expense of everybody else.
  9. He must have sewn up the waitstband of the jumper otherwise his arse would be hanging out. No-one wants an exposed Turkey arse.
  10. Result. If POL can just do that every day for the next year they'll raise almost 10% of what the club urgently need to spend on FP.
  11. You probably need to do more righteous smiting. Old ladies on pension day is good.
  12. I'd like to share the wealth of bringing Jesus into your heart Bearsy.
  13. I wouldnt have a problem with Morgan playing for England. Its a bit marginal, but most of his professional career has been spent here. Lots of players for other teams are far more tenuous - qualified through grandparents despite never having been to the country or played there(eg Higginbotham Gibraltar and Cascarino Ireland)
  14. Its far more principled to argue against your own interests (redistribution when you're wealthy) than for your own interests (get rich screw everbody) when you're poor.
  15. I know, I just teasing. The point is though that its arguably weird for a pilot with 30 years experience to be playing a sim game, especially if it involved deliberately crashing - not so for a member of the general public.
  16. Pap's plane doesn't have side windows and the flaps / thrust is fly by wire operated by shift + Q.
  17. I dont celebrate it. I also dont tell other people what to celebrate. In the past I've celebrated all kinds of alcohol promotions; birthdays of people I didn't know but who had fit friends; and people leaving work. Which of these are acceptable to you Bazza?
  18. So what? Most people like to enjoy life and celebrate on any old ropey pretext. A few like to whinge and ****.
  19. Agree. Thats probably more likely than my scenario on reflection.
  20. The satellite intelligence has the plane climbing and descending rapidly and then flying for another seven hours - which is roughly the time it would have run out of fuel. Why fly until you run out of fuel if its a simple suicide? My best wild guess would be a fight for control, aircrew dead and plane flying on autopilot until falling out of the sky.
  21. Gaston has the got the best car, which is also the cheapest. That should tell the others something, but won't.
