You should turn it into a plus point. As a CEO he is highly unlikely to a rabid 'all Saints fans are scum' type, especially if the company is sports related in its business. Announce it proudly, be friendly, talk about some of the great derby matches, say something sympathetic abourt their crisis. It will help to distinguish you from many of the other faceless candidates.

tbf that could be almost anyone here.

Had a Citroen DS3 as a rental and drove it 1,000 miles across France. Great car. They do a diesel version.

Agree. I don't think the congestion is at all bad. Currently I park about 250m from the ground. Takes no more than 15mins to get away from car park and on to the Itchen bridge - and from there its a free run.

There might not be any - that would have to be assessed and set against, as you said, inflation or interest. I understood that the facilities have been up for a couple of years operating within the rules hosting visiting cruise ships and so could be worth slightly less than when built.

Pay all the money back (perhaps minus some minor figure for depreciation) both UK Government and EU.

Im sorry if you thought my 12 posts on the subject were several pages of complaining. You may have been confused by the fact that your 35 posts have stretched the thread to four pages, burying most other contributions in the process. Liverpool has a major credibility problem. Most of the rest of the country thinks its full of workshy duckers and divers - fair or unfair it doesnt really matter. People have other options when it comes to deciding where to put their new office / factory / call centre. If I were leading the City Council the last thing I would be trying to do is pull yet another fast one that remind people of the 1970s and 1980s. They should instead be trying to build a reputation for success and playing by the book. I actually heard good things about the workforce at Halewood a couple of weeks ago from the CEO of Jaguar and thought "hey thats a turnaround from 25 years ago when it was the ford plant and my manager friend there kept a length of lead pipe to defend himself". Stupid short sighted crap like this over the cruise terminal money means you win an insignificant battle for a couple of million but lose the war to repair the city's image.

Dear oh dear Pap. You are off form. Now you are conflating different peoples opinions who were responding to different scenarios which you floated - and then trying to meld them all together and pass them off as an inconsistent mess. Isnt the inconsistent mess actually your position?
-
Its still dishonest - because essentially you have used taxpayers cash as risk capital in building a facility and then determining demand. If it takes off and you can turn a profit you pay back the government cash and take the profits; if it turns out to be a turkey you leave it as a public liability. Peel Ports (run by a billionaire from his tax shelter in the IOM) have a very unhealthy relationship with Liverpool City Council in that they front his waterfront development ideas, securing government funding and lobbying for approval, he takes the benefits.

But Liverpool isnt trying to use the money to host cruise ships for visits as part of an itinerary, they can already do that, thats what the money was for. Strangely, despite your assurances about how fantastic it is, very few people want to go on cruises with Liverpool as one of the stops. What Peel (owned by a billionaire) and the City Council want to do is break all their previous undertakings and use the money to turnaround ships - ie have cruises starting and finishing in Liverpool. People dont book a cruise to St Petersburg or the Canaries because the Liver Building looks nice when lit up (true of Toxteth as well).

I know what you mean - I miss the Dell's atmosphere and the cracking pre matches in the local pubs. I dont miss rarely being able to get a ticket or being able to take visitng friends and family. As long as the new thousands are at least notionally new Saints fans, or even just footie fans I'd be happy. There are always bound to be a few ****s sat in Saints seats who are just there to see Man U - but hopefully not too many near me.

Im no expert, have only been there twice, but Glencoe is a very good call. I did a drive from Glasgow to Inverness via Loch Lomond, Loch Fyne and Inveraray, Glencoe, Fort William, Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Awesome trip. The road from Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isles of Mull and Iona are well worth it too. Stayed in a remote house in August and within a 200m radius you could pick wild raspberries, mushrooms, hazelnuts, blueberries and catch brown trout from the stream or loch.

Ah the 'proper fan' argument. Havent heard that for a post or two. Its an easy fact of life that every club gets more fans the higher the division and fewer the lower they are. If Saints had been relegated all the way to Blue Square three quarters of the people who now consider themselves 'real fans' instead of plastics would have been nowhere to be seen. How come you dont spend you time watching Eastleigh instead of Saints Noodles? You live there after all and the stadium has got the 'soul' you are after. I hope its not coz theres little glamour at Silverlake.

More the case that Liverpool docks is able to offer the cruise companies artifically low rates for docking facilities because its been paid for by taxpayers money - as opposed to being a commercially funded operation in Southampton. Remeber not just southampton but all the cruise ports, Teeside, Dover et al objected to Liverpool doing this

I lived with a woman from small town Sweden for years. Tucked in the woods at the rear of her Mum's house was an unattended simple wooden building about 20m x 5m with a small padlock on the door, easy to break into with a crowbar. I just happened to ask what is was one day and was told "Oh thats the armoury, for if the Russians invade". Cant imagine a shed full of machine guns and rocket launchers lasting long in a woods in Hampshire.
-
I dont either - but since the Rosebowl is in financial trouble Im guessing the extra custom they were anticipating didnt materialise.
-
Anyone know what the average attendance stats for Hampshire CC were in Northlands road compared with the Rosebowl?
-
No they arent. Big drive to venues with big carparks are a nightmare to get in and out of. Try driving to the O2, Lakeside etc. I guess Dune prefers an out of town stadium close to the motorway because he wants to drive in, go to a game and go home - which is fair enough. I drive a pretty long distance to a game too - but usually spend time in town. I reckon most people prefer the in town location.
-
People know the same thing by different names in different places shocker. In other news Saints fans were insisting on what other people should say, wear, think etc.

'Jacques Cousteau Does Debbie' imo

No-one claimed "all scousers have a chip on their shoulder etc" (well I didnt anyway). There are many good and talented scousers. It does however, imo have a much higher proportion of people who will thieve, scam and have an 'owed something' victim mentality' than the national average. Pretty harsh I know, but my honest opinion based in factual experience. Maybe my experience is aberrant but the general perception of Liverpool nationwide suggests not.

It doesnt though and it undermines your argument to claim it does. Areas and countries have prevalent traits and characteristics. You wouldnt claim the SE of England is identical socially and policitically to the East of End of Glasgow. Of course not every individual exhibits the characteristics associated with a region. The fact that Nigel Adkins and Rickie Lambert are successful scousers (and have moved away from their origins) doesnt prove or disprove anything- anymore than being able to find a lad born in Mayfair who turned out not to be a prominent hedge fund trader and is unemployed living in a squat proves that Mayfair is a dive.
