It's sounding like Markus didn't completely share his plans and aspirations for the club with his immediate family - the very same members now wanting to deviate from the course that Markus and Cortese supposedly set. Of course, if Markus didn't commit any of these aspirations to paper then the Liebherr's might only have Cortese's word to go on re: Markus's wishes for the club. Maybe its a simple case of the Liebherr's not believing what Cortese is telling them re: Markus's aspirations or that Cortese could be embellishing them to accelerate the project beyond what Markus envisioned?

All of which suggests that Cortese is also using the BBC journo (Evans) to scaremonger too, given his quote this morning: "Southampton face a very uncomfortable summer"

Rationality and the Saints Web Forum. A volatile mix -
Just need MLT to come out in support of Cortese now

Erm...unless I imagined the last 5 years there might well be a good reason for that tag... They seem very keen to point out the differences between "plucky Pompey" and "smug scummers".... so let me highlight the main difference.... if it turns out that Cortese and the Liebherrs have swindled the tax payer, charities, businesses and footballers out of c.£150m in our rise up the leagues then we'd disown our results over the last 4 years quicker than Pompey fans can say "we distance ourselves from all those historic misdemeanors but we'll still wallow in the cup and league 'glory' that it bought us". Good to see that they're as obsessed about us as we nutjobs are about them though. That's reassuring at least

I work for the company I do more because of who the owner/boss is rather than because I have an undying love for the company itself. If the owner/boss was to leave then I would be as likely to follow him out of the door as stay. People work for people not for companies. This notion that a manager should have unconditional loyalty to a football club is a little quaint IMO -
Cheers for the update LD. I don't suppose Evans alluded to what end game Cortese is aiming for? (i.e. either to engineer a buy out or to persuade the Liebherrs to stick to his plan?)

So who would we want in if MP does go ?

@IanDarkeESPN: How things change so fast on south coast. Now Brighton and Southampton in turmoil - and Pompey happy at last.

But looking on the bright side, at least the media are interested in little old Southampton again after 7 years in the wilderness. It comes with the territory. -
I quite like that theory.

I seem to recall a few people have said in the dim and distant past that they know Cortese has a user id on here. (Unless I imagined it) Without revealing his identity, do those that know, know whether he has logged in over the last couple of days or not?

@JFBLucas: Just got in from work. Last week of the season it may be, but there's no sign of things quietening down in the media department. #saintsfc Can't think why... -
To be fair to Clegg, the Tuition Fee pledge was only valid if they won the last general election, which they didn't.

Here's a random thought that just entered one's head.... Maybe the Liebherrs are wanting to float the club (turn it into a PLC) and in doing so would need to have a more transparent and re-organised boardroom, with Cortese losing his autonomy in the process? Any mileage in this random thought or time to fetch my coat (for the umpteenth time on this matter)?
