What if we break the bank but still end up being relegated?

Maybe we don't have a spare £35m sitting in the bank and we'd have to break our 'living within our means' operating model to make this deal happen?

What would be the point of protesting before we know what the impact of a quiet window will be on our ability to avoid relegation? We won't know the impact of this window on our fortunes for several weeks. I'd rather protest if/when relegation becomes a certainly rather than make an arbitrary guess that a quiet window = certain relegation. I accept that not adding more quality to the team doesn't increase our chances of survival on paper, but fans creating a volatile and negative atmosphere at matches isn't exactly going to improve our chances, I would venture.

We won't know the impact of a 'quiet' window until March/April time. So I'll wait until then rather than making an arbitrary "glad to have been proven wrong in hindsight" or "told you so" guess now. Call me old fashioned.

According to reports, we HAVEN'T met the release clause. Rather, we've supposedly negotiated a lower fee that Spartak are happy with but on the condition they get a replacement. Hence the stalemate.

Sounds like Spartak are simply holding out for Saints to meet the terms of the buy out clause... i.e. all the dosh up front. The fact they appear to have negotiated a more palatable deal (from Saints perspective) looks like a smokescreen to me. In other words, looks like Spartak wanted to lead Saints to believe that a compromise deal could be reached but all along knew they could hold out for the full whack knowing how keen/desperate we are to sign him. Just reading between the lines. The question is.... Do we have a 'spare' £35m sitting in the bank that would allow us to go down the buy out clause route. We didn't get £75m up front for VvD, did we?

I've fluctuated between both 'stick' and 'twist' over the last few months. I'm currently in a 'stick' frame of mind, as I think there are signs that we *may* have turned the corner in recent games. Of course, that may all change if we fail to pick up at least 4 points in the next two games....
