  1. Score 2 to win and keep the backdoor shut for 89 mins? It's big ask now.
  2. Anybody take a point now?
  3. Why do people put themselves through this? Choose life! I'm probably 12 months ahead of the curve but I jacked in my STs this season and I don't regret it one bit. Saints born and bred, fourth generation, I've put in the hard yards to support us home and away through thick and thin, loads of thin but plenty of good times too. For all the reasons posted elsewhere I just don't see it as a good use of my time/money at the moment. I still follow the club day to day, log in here every day, watch when we are on telly, but I wouldn't spend Sat afternoon watching a stream (I put in a 300 mile round trip last season probably 17 times to watch some utter dross, I think I ended up seeing less than a goal a game). Last straw for me was the Man City H game last year; got chatting to some PL tourist type fans outside, they had bought tickets on Ticketmaster for £95 ...! Mobile phones, tupperware picnics, kids with signs for oppo shirts, schitt atmosphere, players with zero loyalty, families in leisure wear, tedious corporate branding, complete lack of a sporting contest on the pitch or in the league tables, 14 teams playing not to go down, absent owners. I now do other stuff with my time and money. I don't need a ST, if Wigan goes to general sale I'll go, if it doesn't I'll pocket my 100 pounds and watch it on telly, if we get to a cup final I'll take my chance on db history or pay what it takes.
  4. Not sure you can say number 3 is 'likely'; it's certainly 'possible' but our opponents have beaten B'mouth, West Ham and Man City and have the fewest goals conceded across any of the top 4 leagues. They have beaten PL opposition 3 times out of 3 this season, we have done the same 7 times out of 31, I think. If we play to win we would have a decent chance, if we play not to lose we are IMHO unlikely to win.
  5. Don't see PEH, JWP or Redmond playing in the championship next season.
  6. Think you need to have another look at that table. We have 1 or 2 (away) games in hand and are picking up just shy of a point an (away) game and with a decent GD, our away form has us somewhere around 8th/9th/10th ... just about exactly where most people perceive our squad, managed and coached properly should be in the real league table. Our current predicament is 99% down to our woeful home form.
  7. Just confirms, our home form (home tactics?) is killing us.
  8. Anybody know the Italian European game, it was a 16-00/17-00 kick-off where tkts were literally free? Tried to google it but can't find anything, from about 3-4 years ago?
  9. Curse of the commenter - it's going to be 2-2 and pens now; just got ML 'the keeper could have thrown his cap on it'. Have to watch to the bitter end now.
  10. Anybody watching Swansea v Sheff Wed on the beeb? Just wandered in after watching some cycling on Eurosport, it's like wandering into a third world country! Schitt product, schitt production, schitt commentator, and Mark chuffing Lawrenson ... hard to believe this is on what we olds used to call 'peak time' TV. Netflix and very chilly.
  11. At this rate we could have us, Skates and Brighton all in Manc on Sat nite.
  12. Hopefully they will put up a statue, if only to give us the pleasure of pulling it down.
  13. Ask yourself if the TV companies would choose Wigan v West Brom, Wigan v Bournemouth or Wigan v Swansea over a game involving Spurs or Man U or Chelsea? In football-fan land we may be the most intriguing tie but TV land is a very different place. Can safely say we will be fourth TV pick.
  14. Decent for a second/third striker: Carillo ought to be good for 20 a season. Long, Austin, Carillo and Gallagher we would be well equipped at that level.
  15. I've only been to one game this season - Palace away - and I posted then that rumours of our demise had been greatly exaggerated! Lemina looked like the missing piece in the jigsaw, decent enough debut from Hoedt, Forster kept a rare clean sheet, Tadic was OK, Davis scored (!), unfortunately Redmond was full-Redmond that day but you can't have it all; it looked then like we had something to build on. And the rest is history! Extraordinary that we can start a must-win game with our 4 biggest signings on the bench and playing a non-scoring striker and non-scoring midfield. Utter shambles, he should have gone after Brighton away.
  16. E - I - E - I - E -I- O Down the net spend we do go And when we get to relly This is what we'll sing We are Southampton, We are Southampton We are the Net Spend kings.
  17. October just called, he wants his quote back.
  18. Yep, the very worst part of this season. Fans have called for this kit for years. Wear it? I wouldn't let this lot wash it.
  19. Probably best get Boufal and Carillo on now for Long and Davis as we only have 60 mins to score 2 goals, the last 15 minutes will be waay too late!
  20. Agree (I had to draw a picture in excel to work it out though!). For a bonus point I think I was right in saying that there are 240 possible outcomes (possible ties including H and A) and only 12 of those involve BvB; your 2,000,000 number is the number of different permutations the teams could have come out of the hat. Have you got the odds on us staying up;)
  21. I only did Big v Big, Small v Small, Big v Small, Small v Big ... rather than basing it on 16 individual teams. Big v Big is (4*4)-4, SvS is (12*12)-12, BvS (4*12)-4, SvB (12*4)-12 ... if my way is right then it gives BvB 12 times out of 240 ... I have no idea how to work out how likely BvB will come out in 16 ties.... one in twenty looks unfeasibly low but I have no idea why!
  22. To pour some cold water on the hot balls theory it looks like the draw isn't rigged at all. If you take 4 big teams and 12 other teams and let their be a random draw including H and A I make it there are 240 possible combinations of which only 12 consist of the top 4 playing each other. Last night they drew 16 ties and none of them featured any combination of big v big. That's as far as my maths goes if anyone wants to take it on from there but I'm not seeing any evidence there for the more hysterical claims that TV pay to heat up the balls (and loads and loads of old pro's/pundits are in on the scam too!).
  23. 1-0 up and bossing it, bring on extra CB after 60 minutes and proceed fairly comfortably to next round.
  24. A delay of pretty much a whole tie, in my favour, between 5L digital radio in my kitchen (me) and satellite TV in the lounge (Mrs Sandwich). Whoever said technology will be the death of the nuclear family needs to tune into RT 'now' if they want to see Robbie and Ruud releasing their big balls in (fake) real time.
