Agree. It is worth noting that Lincoln are sitting one place above us in the league table now. Unbelievable on the evidence of the team that played us but in broader respects they are no slouches so a draw doesn't look so tragic after all

If Eckert must sit it out for a few weeks don't you think Adam Lallana is the more likely stand -in? He and Garner should be able to keep things together. Probably an exaggeration, little old yokely Southampton barely get a mention in the press even when defeating the current league leaders not once but twice. Do you really believe that? Best to wait and see what they say before becoming apoplectic.

I've been right-royally castigated for criticising Bree this season but yet again he was our poorest player. He is not playing at the level he achieved last season and his desperation is showing, giving away a penalty last time out by hauling a player to the ground and resorting to shirt tugging on more than one occasion yesterday. What's going on there?

What a pity THB didn't stay. He and Schlotterbeck would have made an awesome pairing. THB's limitations were probably caused by Stephens's inadequacies and the need for THB to keep one eye on him and not be able to fully concentrate on his own job.

We were reminded by the commentator that WHU were relegated with 39 points. Most seasons that would have kept them in the PL. They have been able to hang on to their quality players so barring a string of serious injuries it's hard to see who will be able to stop them. We had our own early warning of their potential in the Carabao Cup. Some are suggesting that Wrexham were poor tonight so the scoreline flattered WHU, the reality is that the home side outclassed them in every area of the pitch and demoralised the visitors. With nearly 60k fans cheering on the Hammers it's no surprise that they threw in the towel after the third goal went in. WHU top the league tonight, if they are still there after the weekend it may be the case that they run away with it. Finn Azaz claimed that we are the best team in the league, those words might come back to haunt him.

Luckily Swansea were not a bunch of cloggers unlike Lincoln so all should be well.

My comment was in response to the poster who suggested that we had already overcome the defecit of 4 points inflicted on us by the EFL. I suppose it depends on which way you look at it. Do we have the right to withdraw him half way through the break or do we need Flynn to kick him in the ankle (gently) before he sets off?

The point I was making earlier in the thread, we started off 4 points behind everyone now we are 6 behind WBA, 4 behind WHU, Swansea, QPR and Charlton etc. We have lost ground to the league leaders and made up none on the others mentioned.

Anything less than a victory will be unacceptable. There is already a 6 point gap to the league leaders.

Hate to waste a post on trivia but I can't for the life of me understand your last sentence (?)

This is likely to be a very uncomfortable evening. We have been very hit and miss this season and it is hard to predict which version of Saints will turn up tomorrow. In contrast, Swansea seem to be very consistent in the way they play, quick and accurate in their passing, creative and energetic in midfield, willing runners at the front and a rock solid back four. On Tuesday Wrexham were partially successful in blunting their momentum by playing a very similar game but in the end lucky to come away with a draw. Trying to emulate Wrexham is a big ask. Our defence has been woeful this season, THB bogged off leaving a gaping hole while Bree & Manning have not reached their standards of last season. Then there is the enigma of Calamity Jack. It doesn't help that Eckert seems not to know which is his stongest back four. I can't see how they will cope with Swansea's fast runners. There is always an element of uncertainty with these Saints; rumours of dissent and lack of commitment in the ranks suggests that team spirit is not as cohesive as we imagined. All in all not the best recipe for taking on the league pace setters in their pomp. Sorry guys but this has the feel of a heavy defeat so going for 0-3

Whatever happened to "hit the ground running"? Lots of new players doesn't seem to be affecting Swansea, Wrexham or a half dozen other teams near the top of the league

None of the three was effective today, in fact they all played poorly by their normal standards. That combined with the need to rest them for Swansea was probably the reasons why they were hooked early. Eckert probably thought the subs couldn't do any worse. Sadly the malaise had spread right through the camp.
