Thanks to those who posted the friendly matches highlights. Worth watching even if there are too many titred old faces hanging around the place. The long awaited clear out is taking time. Hopefully Still is using these games to assess the whole squad before getting out his pruning shears. Not sure I can see an identifiable system of play yet from Still, seems all a bit kick-and-rush with players playing their own games largely on instinct. Surely though we will not be starting with the likes of Bree, Manning, Stephens, Armstrong and Fraser

The lad is a bit of an enigma. he's already had one shot at joining a big club - the World Club Champions no less - but hated the experience and came running back to St Mary's with his tail between his legs. Now we are asked to believe that he will not sign a new contract. The only way that makes sense is for his agents head to be prevailing over the players heart.

Of course he won't be leaving, the guy has been out injured for 12 months so will have no suitors unless or until he can prove that all that is behind him.

They need to get a move on, the new season will be upon us before you know it. It's a familiar pattern with Saints, lots of rumours and speculation with little follow up and then an almighty panic at the last minute to get people out the door - usually not very successfully - and buy anybody who happens to be roughly what we want and cheap. The sort of players that "have always wanted to be here" (nobody else wants them!) and prove to be useless within a matter of weeks.

Don't get too excited, we've been here before with Cortese. For starters just think of the nightmare of getting planning permision to do anything at the SM site. A lot more people live down there now than back in 2000 when the stadium was built. Plenty of NIMBYS in those flats I'll bet not to mention change of use battles if the Club tried to acquire local businesses to create space for its ambitions. Could take years to deliver even with goodwill and a trailing wind.
