  1. I'd never heard of him but the you tube videos look good.....a bit of a David Platt type late runner into the box type if that helps?
  2. No, it's true. The thing is I can't compromise my source (always wanted to say that!) and I know they met for talks today - but I don't know the outcome. I fully intend to exploit my ITK status from now on though - it probably won't last long......
  3. Where's the fun in that? The whole point of this is I know something you don't.
  4. Animal, and yes or no questions from now on until you get too close.....
  5. Yep, sounds like the same one I've heard.
  6. I know we're in for a player currently playing in one of Europe's second tier divisions (not England). He's a midfielder and has already had talks with Pardew.
  7. I saw those interviews and they were a bit embarassing. If Lowe had come out with something similar he'd have been slated for it. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter much but it does smack a bit of insecurity.
  8. When I was growing up Pompey barely figured on my radar - i knew I was supposed to hate them but it's hard when they are so far removed from us. It wasn't until they got promoted that I really payed any attention to them and even then it was largely as a reaction to their hatred of us. I was surprised just how much they dislike us which is a bit silly really considering that the only basis is that we're their nearest geographical club to them but there it is. I do think a large section of them actually hate us and that's what characterises them for me; most of us only dislike them as a direct result of their attitude to us. Frankly they're above us. Great, who cares? I care about as much as I do about Spurs or Bournemouth or any other club which is actually not at all. if I have any feeling at all it's that i wish they would stop this fixation with being better than us - over recent years that's hardly a benchmark for success, is it? Over the past year I will admit that my feelings have changed a bit - the club has lied and cheated blantantly and blamed everyone else for their problems. I think they deserve to be liquidated.
  9. unbelievable
  10. In this post Professor has displayed a tendency for condesension and pretension. Within the aspect of living up to his username and perceived role on an internet forum this is entirely in keeping with his online persona. However professor should realise that other threads exist to express his opinion on without having to start a new one based on purely upon his own need for validation of his opinion. I mean, honestly? "Alan showed that he has a good understanding of the subject but he could improve his consistency in putting this knowledge into practice" You pompous sod!
  11. I'd take it to mean that the players we are in for are playing at a higher level but not necessarily guaranteed starters for their current club. So unless the selling club is in financial difficulty then we have to wait until they get replacements in. Of the players we've been linked with I'd guess it's probably worth while following the transfer activity of Notts Forest, Sheff Utd and Reading.
  12. Well it's all about opinions but I don't see Austin as being able to play the Lambert type role. I actually would take henderson over Austin every time. I don't think Austin is that good and in any case we're not linked with him. They're both pretty unrealistic targets though.
  13. i Seems a a good player and a good investment. We're not crying out for another centre half and the lad, according to the BBC, wants to join Middlesbrough. I reckon someone has made this up or at best it's his agent trying to generate some interest.
  14. There's no shirts to cover my exceedingly large frame - they must have sold out! That is actually quite funny. To be honest I don't mean to make fun but you've got to realise an XXXL isn't going to sell many so they wouldn't bother producing many - unless scouts want to use it as a tent. You probably should change the thread title to "Alpine Saint is a fat bastard"
  15. OK, I'm on an interview panel this week for the first time and I was wondering what other people's experience of it was like? I'm not really asking for advice because i know what I want to find out about the candidates and I think I'll be fair. Having been on the other side of the table often enough I've seen my share of good and bad interviewers and hopefully I'll be one of the better ones. From my own experience I hate interviews that are not challenging - it doesn't give much room to excel or impress which is what I'd want. It'll be open questions to start for me and then some questions concerning detail. I'd be interested in other peoples experiences though?
  16. Just started "The death of grass" which actually isn't about Howard Mark's worst nightmare. It's a small little dystopian novel about a virus that wipes out all grass and crops and of course the chaos that it brings. Published in 1956 it's been described as a cross between Day of the triffids and Lord of the Flies. it's shaping up nicely so far. After that I have Chuck Palahniuk's Lullaby. He's always a good author to mess with your head.
  17. Because it's the British national anthem? It's only known as English because we lack the imagination to come up with something else. You're right though we are not a democracy, we are not a republic, we are not citizens - we are subjects and we subserviently bow down to the lottery of birth. God save the Queen? God won't help her if I get there first....
  18. England doesn't have a national anthem. HTH
  19. England doesn't have a national anthem. I do think we need one though and anything has to be better than GSTQ so I wouldn't be overly fussed with whatever it was replaced with. However I do think the Scots have got it spot on with 'Flower of Scotland' and anything close to that would be superb. Incidentally does anyone else make a specific point of sitting down during GSTQ? I did it at Cardiff and Wembley. I even have to put the TV on mute whenever it comes on I hate it that much.
  20. If I'm honest then yes, I am a bit disappointed so far. I know it takes time and attracting quality players to a div 1 club can't be easy but I had hoped we could get our targets in early so they had a decent pre-season. There's still time of course but like any football fan I want it now. I think up front we're only really looking for cover. We do need to replace the pace of Waigo and Antonio though. It's midfield that I'd be properly concerned about. Hammond and Schneiderlin are fine but if we have injuries and suspensions then I think we struggle. Next season we'll have a lot of teams who will be more defensive and want to kick lumps out of us and we need to counter that. It's fine having the best strikeforce and attacking flair but we need to give them the ball. I think we need a proper tough nut in midfield who will win those battles and put us firmly in the driving seat - someone who will push us on. Not a box to box player (we have enough midfielders who can chip in with goals). Well that's the job description but as to who could do the role? I don't know. Maybe Carsley if his legs haven't gone and he doesn't get too many injuries? I think this is the one area we could do with a bit of a marquee signing - maybe not as grand as signing Lambert but certainly someone who could get us excited. We'll need cover for Davis as well if Bart doesn't return. So, yes, I'm a bit disappointed - I think we'll address the problems and I think we'll still be OK if we didn't sign anyone else but would be nice to have a few more in by this stage.
  21. Personally I hope they stay in admin for a year - the transfer embargo alone will probably relegate them. Then they can play in div 1 next season with a points deduction.
