  1. I wouldn't say this annoys me but I did find it funny. There was a fella a couple of rows in front of me last night who either had just got a new iphone/iTouch thingy (don't know which and don't care) or was totally addicted to it who was constantly checking the score of guess what match? Yes, that's right - the one he was watching . Did he think Sky would get quicker updates than his eyes?
  2. I particularly liked the idea to ban renaming the divisions and to go back to division 1 being division 3.
  3. An incompetent ref will get things wrong for both sides but this ref was consistently calling bad decisions in leeds favour. He was without doubt the worst ref I've seen. The penalty/goal disallowed decision was unbelievable and I got the impression he tried to be "strong" by not doing what refs normally do when they've made a mistake and even up the score. If that was a premiership referee then I'm glad we don't play in that division. Quite simply awful. The guy was a joke.
  4. Normally have a drink in the Varsity as well. Would be suprised if it had been allocated as an away pub - it's normally packed before the game.
  5. Surely the point of a jury is to decide guilt? It's the job of the judge to decide sentencing, isn't it? Of course none of us know any details yet so it would be foolish to comment on his crime/guilt/sentence. I do think that his past record should be considered when sentenced if he's guilty - he's had enough time and chances (I hope) to be rehabilitated and so there does come a time when it ceases to be a problem of the system or upbringing and that it's just a product of the individual. It's terrible when this happens (if the allegations are true) because it detracts from the cases where the combination of rehabilitation and punishment have actually worked. That's about as liberal as i can get on this.
  6. Come on Saints! I don't want another evening of reading wrist slitters!
  7. What time is it in Weymouth?
  8. Anyone spot the contradiction here? Of course you'll say as a fan you're allowed to express opinions of a negative nature whereas Pardew should not. Anyway didn't you give up on the playoffs after the Exeter game? Surely anything close to playoff position would be a bonus for you?
  9. looked like Valuev, had the same pace as Valuev, probably has the same footballing ability as Valuev.
  10. good win today, great performance. Have to say I've not seen a worse side (wallsall) in ages though. Nice to see we didn't relax or go back to their level but we really should have been in double figures they were that poor. That's not a moan though but I've seen us play better and lose....
  11. Yep, much better reads than the programme. Cheaper and funnier. Which was the one with the Branfoot cover - On the March or Beautiful South? I used to read all of them but On the March was probably my favourite.
  12. I quite like the Scots and "Flower of Scotland". I imagine that would wind them up much more than "hating" them back though. The Scotts on the other hand are total ******s.
  13. Seems to me as if Chanrai has looked at this and thought "how will I protect my investment?" So he's taken the only obvious tangible thing in the knowledge that if they stay in existence he's guaranteed at least some money and if they don't then he can use the land for other things. To keep this on a saints related theme, how on earth could we suffer what we did last year and then look down the road and see such blatant mis-management on a far larger scale? I think their only hope is to declare themselves a third world country (which isn't far from the truth) and then write off the debt.
  14. Thought Puncheon looked a class above on the albeit brief highlights. I'm looking forward to seeing him play.
  15. No he didn't. That was a combination of the press and his missus trying to wrap a golf club round his head.
  16. But that's the thing - he is just another sportsman. Just happens to be very good at it but ultimately his only worth to us is when he's playing golf. I can see how he can be a role model for his own kids but not to others - surely that should be their own parents, family, teachers etc? The only way any sportsman or celebrity should be used as a role model is in relation to what they are successful at - in Tiger's case it would probably be dedication and practise. You're probably right though about him wanting to protect his "brand" - which really devalues the useless gesture anyway.
  17. I've just seen a bit on the news about Tiger Woods apology and thought about whether it was necessary. I'm sure he should be apologising to his wife and kid(s) but to the world over a private matter....I'm not sure he needs to do that. The same for John Terry (I'm not sure if he has apologised though). It's a bit like when Dianna died and Mrs Windsor was harangued to show some emotion, maybe a tear? It seemed hysterical and over the top to me then and was probably the only time in my life I found myself defending her over what should have been a more private affair. I thought the same when Bill Clinton was nearly impeached over his affair. There are some things I feel should deserve an apology - Blair comes to mind for the war in Iraq. I don't think an apology for an affair or a private matter is needed though and in any case does anyone believe they are doing anything other than pandering to the court of populist opinion because a PR person told them? Thoughts?
  18. I haven't bothered to look into who is supposed to be buying Pompey this week but why would anyone want to buy them? Surely anyone looking to buy a club could get Newcastle, Palace or Stockport for similar or less money. All those clubs have better prospects than Pompey.
  19. Gary was the only reason I joined this site. Top bloke, great laugh and rubbish at 15-1. I'd have disagreed with almost everything he posted on this site but you couldn't help but like him. In full flow he had to be one of the funniest people I've met.
  20. I think the days when a degree (any degree) would land you a well paid job and good career are largely, but not completely, gone. Large organisations were always the firms that took graduates of any discipline on and they seem to be cutting back and concentrating on either more vocational qualifications or training people who choose not to go to university. When you've got the aspiration for 50% of 18 year olds to go to university it stands to reason that when searching for a job after graduating then it's going to be harder to stand out. Employers are going to say "Media studies? Big deal" Sorry for that generalisation. Bottom line is we're creating more graduates but I don't think we're creating more graduate jobs. That's not to say studying in itself isn't a great thing - it is. Most students will really enjoy it. That doesn't mean that whilst probably more sensible, more knowledgeable, more rounded than they were before that they will find it easy to get a job. I'd applaud anyone who wants to study more but sadly I'm not sure it's in their interests unless they have a clear goal about what they choose to do after graduating and study something relevant to that.
  21. I'm no expert in any kind of law or finance but the bottom the line the judge will surely be looking at is "Are Portsmouth worth saving? Is there a realistic chance they will get bought/bring in investment?" In short, are they doing more harm to creditors by staying in business than being out of it? I can't see any other answer "yes". They're still running up debts and with relegation a probability they'll run up more. It seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm not really clear about liquidation but if they did get liquidated would the sale of their assets be divided amongst creditors? If that's the case then I would have thought any creditor of PFC would be calling for liquidation - it's a more certain guarantee of at least some money than any of Storrie's promises.
  22. English? Really? I'm sorry, someone had to do it.
  23. There's been a bit of dredging up of history about Southampton dockers breaking strikes in Portsmouth (hence the nickname scummers) but I'd like to know more. I know some posters have claimed it's total fabrication, and I hope it is, but does anyone have any links for further information? Or any stories about it?
  24. I'm looking for a fairly cheap (although not necessarily the cheapest) digital camera. It'll be simply point and shoot because I know nothing about digital photography (or any other kind for that matter), any recommendations?
  25. I'd say give them the advance parachutte payment AND a 15 point deduction. If they want to set a precedent then it needs to be a precedent that clubs don't want to follow. The good thing about this is that they'll still be free to go into admin in the championship where we all know they'll have every rule in the book thrown at them. If Leeds, Bournemouth and Luton can have excessive points deductions then I think Pompey will be on a par with them.
