  2. Fairy Cakes Recipe Ingredients 100g self-raising flour; 1 tsp baking powder; 100g butter; 100g caster sugar; 2 large eggs, lightly beaten; 1 tbsp milk (optional) Makes 12 fairy cakes Recipe Method Put paper cases in a 12-cup bun tin. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add the butter, eggs and sugar. Beat together until well mixed. If the mixture is a little thick, mix in a little milk. Evenly divide the mixture between the cake cases. Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven (180c/gas4) until just firm. Allow to cool slightly before putting them out on a wire rack to cool completely. Ice and decorate the cakes as you like.
  3. lol, how true..
  4. As it says on the tin really - are there any particular games or moments in Saints' history where you've had to or wanted to turn away because it was easier than watching the events themselves unfold? I remember being a nervous wreck before and during the Everton home match at the end of the 98/99 great escape season! Also, bricking it before my first Saints-P*mpey game! And that Leon Best penalty at Derby... Any others?
  5. Completely disagree with that
  6. Yeah pleased for him too, I always rated him when he was with us, just a shame he never got a proper run in the team. Understandable with our midfield options though
  7. Check the Oscar Gobern thread!! He'll get a Prem move I think..
  8. (Gobern's still playing well by the way)
  9. Madness! I know Wycombe aren't exactly top opposition, but Rhodes has looked absolutely awesome tonight, even if his 3 goals are disregarded!
  10. Just scored - Friday night in watching Wycombe vs. Huddersfield for me, sure! Bloody love a bit of League One football! Can't believe Huddersfield left Jordan Rhodes out of their side for periods last season (I am right in thinking they did aren't I??), pretty happy they did though!
  11. Spot on, Guly-haters take note.
  12. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16358007.stm Average read but thought would share - bit of national exposure always nice
  13. i reckon we'll win this
  14. Very well said, although agreed it's a tad harsh on Harding - was great for us in 09/10 and 10/11, and I still think he brings out the best in Lallana! I remember his first appearance for Saints as well, he stood out as such a competitor - something we're used to now but certainly weren't off the back of 08/09! I realised we were making proper signings for the future then, not the stopgap/journeyman/short-term signings we had become accustomed to
  15. Well said, Neil.
  16. Sounds like a top notch mate.
  17. I appreciate the point you're making but I would argue that the definition itself is riddled with subjectivity, as highlighted above. What qualifies as instrumental? What is a chance? The "whether it was a goal scoring opportunity" debate flares up most weekends when players are sent off for fouling their opponents when they have what the ref believes to be a goal scoring opportunity. You can bet your bottom dollar there will be pundits, managers, other referees etc who will see it differently, and that this disagreement will persist even with the benefit of replays. Obviously some decisions are stonewallers, but for this definition to pass the objectivity test, all would have to be.
  18. I'm afraid the moment you get subjective, a statistic becomes fundamentally flawed. A statistic is defined by its objectivity.
  19. Thank you Doctor I think we all accept that points is the critical stat, but the other stats mentioned are the best proxies available for providing an indication of who are the best performing players in a league. They paint a picture.
  20. You could equally argue goalscoring is a "stupid stat" on that basis though; if you're a good striker playing in a "gash" side that doesn't produce any chances, you won't score as many as a lesser striker playing in a good side creating a wealth of chances. Where do you draw the line in the valid vs invalid stat debate, CFSFC?

    Assists..

A stat that gets far too little exposure in my opinion http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/assists/_/league/eng.2/english-league-championship?cc=5739 A few observations: - A combined goals/assists table would have Lambert and Guly at the top (I think!) - Danny Fox and Fraizer Richardson, well played - None of our "big four" targets (Sharpe, Rodriguez, Jutkiewicz or Maynard) feature - I know we're a goalscoring machine and these guys play in poorer sides, but still - I know we have an embarrassment of riches in CM, but that Jacob Butterfield cannot be ignored - he's managed to notch up the assists in a poorer side!
  22. Anyone any good at montages?
  23. He has done so IMO at Ipswich, Leicester, Derby and Coventry, to name four or the eight away I've done. Nobody was great at Donny or Bristol City, I acknowledge he was poor at P*mpey.
