  1. RAF VC-10s are ancient, fuel guzling relics which became obsolete in the 60's. Tristar's likewise in the 80's. Basically they are nothing like modern commercial jets and are in no way relevant to the Stansted situation.
  2. Indeed. You could have a few of these taking off over your house.
  3. Stick of dynamite.
  4. Not building the runway will increase pollution. Why do you think Ryanair and Easyjet go to Luton and Stansted? Because Heathrow is full and slots there are like Gold-dust. Why is Heathrow full? Because it doesn't have anywhere near the terminal or runway capacity it needs. Once places like Stansted fill up, airlines will just have to move somewhere further away. Passengers will find themselves being quite literally sent to Coventry. That means more trains busses and cars to get them there, on top of the extra time in the air planes spend waiting to land at Stansted because the runway is too busy. All of which means more fuel burned, more envornmental damage.
  5. It wont, it's just sensationalist bull**** to try and get people to campaign against the runway. Yep. If he wanted to get away from it all, I'd suggest somewhere other than the under flight-path for a London international airport, just off the M11 (which produces far more pollution that the airport ever will). Tit.
  6. In order I'd say: 1. Pearson. Made a team which was getting beat by League 1 opposition hard to beat almost instantly. Steadied the ship, kept us up and I think we were about 12 in the CCC form table during his reign, having spent no money. 2. Sturrock. Won 3 of his first 4 games before injuries set in. Won convincingly against Liverpool and Spuds, and at Molineux and Eastlands. Mutual consent. Didn't George Orwell once say "all constents are mutual, but some are more mutual than others." 3. Portvliet. Have to admit we're doing a lot better than I thought we would and Jan has had tougher circumstances than any of the others. 4. Redknapp. His heart was never really in it, but if we hadn't thrown away those games against Villa, Everton and 'borough, we'd have been safe easily. 5. Wigley. Karp. 6. Dodd/Gorman. Really karp. N/a. Wise and Bassett.
  7. I'd probably go with Pato leading the line and BWP in place of Thomson, but it's a nice looking team none-the-less.
  8. For a journey of 500 miles a train and an aircraft would both emit the same amount of CO2. Below that, the train is more efficent, above it, the aircraft. Basically if everyone didn't fly on principle because of environmental damage, we'd NEVER be able to go further away from our house than Edinburgh. FYI Air travel (both internal and international) only accounts for 3% of total worldwide emissions and only 5% accross the UK. Cars in the UK produce 24% of the countries carbon emissions. Congratulations child murderer! ;-)
  9. Well, that's an hour nearer to Manchester and not all that much nearer to Heathrow. Edit: I've just gone on AA route planner and Oxford (I don't know where in Oxon you live) to Salford takes 2hr 51mins by car. Why the heck would anyone do that by a plane? :-s
  10. Bridge, there are ways to minimise the impact of air travel on the enviroment without forcing passengers through third-world airports which have nowhere near the capacity to handle them. New aircraft like the A320/737NG, A350, A380, B787 and B777-300 can use as little as half the fuel of the aircraft they are designed to replace. Pratt and Whitney are currently developing an engine which uses 10-15% less fuel than anything on the market today. I could beavailable in as little as 2 years time. Compare that to the train network, which is still using ancient pieces of crap which may well have been build by Stevenson himself.
  11. Well, if you chose to go from Southampton to Manchester via London then well, that is stupid IMO. That must take what, 3 hours by car. You could spend over 1 1/2 hours getting from Southampton to Heathrow alone with bad traffic.
  12. Both Stansted and Heathrow need another Runway. Whenever an incident closed a runway at Heathrow, even only for 20 minutes or so, there is chaos with dosens of flights being delayed, often by more than an hour. Heathrow has the third most passengers anually in the World, yet it only has 2 runways. JFK has 4, Boston has 6, Denver has 6 CDG has 4, Amsterdam has 7... All of these have fewer passengers than Heathrow, which shows just how crowded that place is. Stansted is right on the limit. At peak times the runway is as busy as Heathrow and there is no way of getting more flights in and out of the airport. FYI Ryanair have three flights dailly from Stansted which go somewhere you could get to on a train or car, and they are all to Glasgow (16 hour round trip in a car, sounds like fun). This is out of over 100. As it is aircraft frequently have to hold at both airports, which means more time in the air, more fuel burned and more delays. Another runway would remove this need.
  13. The FA also think Prutton pushing the ref was twice as bad as Roy Keane deliberately ending Alf Inge Haaland's career. It was never a red card.
  14. C*nts. Aviation will only expand as and when there is demand. People don't fly just because planes are there. Not building at least one more runway somewhere around London is only going to lead to more pain and misery for people passing through Heathrow, which is way over capacity as it is.
  15. You can't be serious. He was recovering from a serious injury during the relegation season and probably shouldn't have played at all, but we were desperate for someone of his quality in the side. I still think rushing him back was one of the main factors for his recuring injury problems and poor form during the first season down. You might as well blame Killer or Pahars for not being there during the relegation season. At least Oakley got those goals against Pompey and Norwich.
  16. I always thought Kamil Kosowski looked useful when he played. Kind of like the Skacel of 2005, linking midfield and attack. Just a shame about the injuries and Burley not rating him enough to sign him. He was still in the Poland NT long after he left here. I would also have to stick in a vote for Wolfboy. I heard he once got bored in a reserve game and started doing press-ups. Can anyone confirm this? Also a model pro who always gave 100%. Oh and the Spurs goal.
  17. Or, Shev as he was known. He was Ukrainian when he was here, but has since played for the Latvian NT. In this age of Total football with a young team, I can't help but wonder how good we'd be if we'd kept players like Shev, Griffit, Sparv, Baseya, M. Mills and Cranie.
  18. Clearly you weren't as traumatised by THAT Tranmere game as the rest of us. Think it Imant's debut and he made about 6 appearances over 3 years. Sarmiento played when we got knocked out of the Cup that season, can't remember who against.
  19. No rules, just a bit of fun. Trying to think of the players we've signed but never played. Good shout. I remember watching the 02/03 season review DVD and thinking 'WTF?' when it was announced we'd signed him at the start of the season.
  20. Could have sworn that post was more instulting yesterday.
  21. Pah, you call that a metaphor? Saints are like... Janet Street-Porter on a beach - all mouth and no trousers. Kiera Knightly - Nice to look at, nothing up front. Ballet - Lots of fancy movement which is, all in all, ultimately pointless. Pepe the Skunk - Never gives up, but you just know he isn't going to score.
  22. Can you make up a Saints 11 of players who were in our squad at some point, but haven't actually played a competitive game. I've got: GK: Tommy Forecast? RB: LB: CB: Aledine Yahia CB: Lucien Mettomo RM: LM: CM: Marcelo Tejera CM: Antony Pulis ST: Andrei Pereplyotkin ST:
  23. I posted this on another thread, I think it pretty much shows why we aren't scoring... toothless strikers. We've scored 18 CCC goals this season. If ________ had taken all of those shots in _______ he'd have scored ________ goals. Saga - 06/07 -90 Best - 06/07 - 68 John - 07/08 - 66 Jones - 06/07 -50 Madsen - 05/06 - 49 Rasiak - 06/07 - 48 Fuller - 05/06 - 42 BWP - 06/07 - 41 Saga - 07/08 - 39 Rasiak - 07/08 - 30 Pahars - 05/06 - 27 BWP - 07/08 - 26 Ormerod - 05/06 - 22 Robertson - 08/09 - 25 DMG - 08/09 - 22 BWP - 08/09 - 20 Lallana - 08/09 - 12
  24. 1. Yes I was there. Luckily I have invented teleportation and was able to get back to my laptop in Scotland 4 minutes after the final whistle to make that post. 2. Please enlighten me. Which part of my post was incorrect? Did Watford win? Is that draw going to bring back the missing 15,000? Was that draw infact the end of the world? I'm looking out my window, I can't see four horsemen of the appocalypse, maybe they stopped at a Little Chef. 3. How can you call someone an idiot (twice) with grammar like that? "You absoloute idiot, were you there? Didn't think as much [WTF? I can't even guess how this bit's supposed to read] for, we should have scored about 4, idiot!!!" Hope this helps.
  25. Meh. Not the end of the world, especially with Watford, Charlton and Barnsley losing. Cov and Notts For drawing is also the best result we could have hoped for. Not going to do SMS crowds much good if we can't beat anyone at home.
