  1. That's funny. I bet not many people try that at Millwall either. Thing is you may - or may not - get grief in a home end at any ground you go to (regardless of reputation). I've never done it. Wouldn't enjoy it. With all-seaters nowadays the home season ticket holders know each other by sight. When a non-season ticket seat is taken by someone it's simple to tell quite quickly if they aren't a home fan. Don't think you are fooling anyone by not loudly cheering an away goal. As to whether you get any serious grief? Like I said - that is the luck of the draw...
  2. http://www.worldsoccerbars.com/chicago-soccer-bars This has quite a few listed (including the Fado). I may phone around nearer the time to see what the deal is. Big screen? Sound on? Beer served? etc A good write-up on this site saying how the so-called 'soccer pubs' will always feature the English Prem League (so it may be hard to find Spanish, Italian or German games on). They don't actually say this but of course they will double feature it over anything else when it's Man Utd playing. Saints playing them that day is pretty handy actually. Should have no probs at all finding a place with it on. I can handle Americans supporting the big Prem teams. Seeing as 99% of the country will never watch the English Prem at all - the ones that do are usually pretty knowledgable. I'll let them off being glory-supporter types. Hopefully the bars there ain't full of English non-Manc ex-pat Man Utd fans. They can swivel and that would suck. 'I used to live in Bristol but have always supported Man Utd' type of thing. Anyone from Chicago ever go and watch the Fire? Any good? I don't mean the game as such but the whole day out and the atmosphere etc. I saw them take a good away support to Columbus the other week - and actually have their own away section. Looked good. American sports badly need promotion, relegation & segregation. At least that game had 1 of the 3....
  3. Sounds good. Nice and easy to get to off of the CTA. However they appear to charge $20 to watch the Irish sports (Hurling & Gaelic Football) and the MLS: http://www.fadoirishpub.com/chicago/sports If they charge $20 to watch a Prem game then there has got to be somewhere else. That's taking the p#ss (especially cos they'll be 4 of us). See what happens. Wherever we end up watching it then definitely make an effort to come along. It would be good to meet up with some other Saints fans.
  4. I'm in Chicago on Sunday Sept 2nd. Saints play Man Utd at 10am CT. Anyone there recommend a pub to watch it in? A quick search shows a few places that will probably be showing it but just wondering if there is a favoured one? Especially one where there may be a few other Saints fans watching the game?
  5. Rickie would have chested it down to his c#ck, dummied it a couple of times (making sure that one of the dummies made the keeper knock himself out on the post), flicked it up & put it in off his a#se. FFS - you saying Carroll is a top class player cos he headed in a great cross? An AFC Totton player would have got his neck around that one. Roll on Brazil 2014. Rickie & Adam to proudly wear the 3 Lions.
  6. How about keeping our best players and then take it from there. We've not had to sell anyone good for a while now. Would be nice to keep it that way.
  7. I also know I'd have picked over a grand if I ain't split that bet with you. You jinxed it. Derby v Gillingham - remember it?
  8. 1/5 odds you pick up 89.15 1/4 odds you pick up 150.66 Could be you have a mixture of 1/4 & 1/5? - obviously then it'll be somewhere in between these amounts. You'd have got 9,405 as the win part of this. What definitely doesn't happen is that you get 1/4 (or 1/5) of this total. It doesn't work like that. 150.66 is the most you'll be picking up. Better than nothing. Fair play having Saints as one of the choices.
  9. Yeah I think so. The MLS does have a salary cap. It would be interesting to see what would happen if this was abolished & some seriously rich people took over some clubs. Would 'I've always wanted to play for Man City' turn into 'I've always wanted to play for the Chicago Fire'? Would most Americans know or care? Probably not.
  10. Sat Aug 13 2011. Barnsley 0 Saints 1. The last ditch defending made it 2 games, 2 wins. We struggled but won to stay in the top 2 and stayed there all season. The 5-2 @ Ipswich shortly afterwards may have made more headlines but this 1-0 in the 2nd game cemented the season for me.
  11. This is how it was reported on USA TV (with 3 of the goals). Complete with South-Hampton, Richard Lambert and a great Benny Hill reference when they are laughing at the pitch invasion. [video=youtube;ryxtMmpdH-o]
  12. Here's a couple at the end of the game. Quality scenes.
  13. Does 'gay boy in the sunglasses' still travel away with Coventry? Anyone else remember that incident? Saints v Cov - night game down The Dell when the away fans were in the East Stand. It was funny for about a minute. Just as the chant got going properly Cov went and scored. He got the last laugh.
  14. Both the Saints & West Ham games are live on foxsoccer.tv (AKA FoxSoccer2Go as they are now calling it) Saints on the TV and West Ham on the computer for me. Well until Saints go a few goals up then who will care about what West Ham are doing...
  15. I grabbed this pic earlier to say exactly the same thing. I'm sure the bloke in question has heard it all before but hey - I bet he's got a few drinks out of it in the past...
  16. http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccerplus/tvschedule Fret not - we're listed as live on FSP with the West Ham game being shown on delay. Roll on Saturday morning...
  17. Maybe... I'll def have a quiet Friday night and see what happens from there. A 7.30am KO does suck. Do you lot still go round Mr G's place to get relaxed pre-game? What are your pre/post match pubs of choice now? Never know - may see you in one on Saturday. Would be good...
  18. 7.30am where I am. A bit of a sucky time but not as bad as 4.30am if you live on the West Coast of the USA. What do you do there? Stay up all night or get up early? Recent SFC TV games have sucked (including Leicester last night). Surely this one will have a happy ending though.
  19. I wonder what the actual stats are for a game where one team needs to win and the other has nothing to play for? I always remember the Fulham v Norwich game from a few years back. Norwich had to win to stay up. They took 1000's to Craven Cottage. The bookies had slashed Norwich to odds-on to win. What could go wrong v Fulham who had long since started to book their summer holidays? Fulham won 6-0. Leicester are no mugs. The home crowd will be up for it. If you can't go up yourself then stopping someone else from doing so is the next best thing. I'm quietly confident that Saints will clinch promotion tonight.
  20. The only way I'll say 'nice one Reading' is if they finish 2nd this season. Hate them as much as any other team. Why the love? Did you all cheer their goal v Forest last night? Strange.
  21. LV's time is the time it is being shown on Fox Soccer Plus. 1pm PT / 4pm ET. It is being shown with a delay. Your times are the actual kick-off. To watch it then you need to use foxsoccer.tv or find another stream. It ain't live on TV in the USA. All still way better than nothing. Enjoy everyone.
  22. Yeah it's been good this season. Can't see this one moving to live on FSP as there is an Italian game already scheduled to be on at the same time. Game is live on foxsoccer.tv though. Wish the Pboro game was on tomorrow but there is no sign of any Championship games being shown. Gonna have to be Solent for this one. Win tomorrow and I think wins will follow v Mboro and Coventry. It's some time shortly after this that 'USA TV to stop showing English Premier League football' becomes the headline. It best not!
  23. Actually there are 7 in total.
  24. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_one-club_men To be included: Been at club for minimum of ten years. Loan spells at other teams disqualify players from being counted in the list. In this list there are 6 Southampton players. Matt Le Tissier is an obvious one. Without clicking the link can you name the other 5?
  25. You lot enjoy! Us hillbillys have to tape it, avoid it for a couple of hours and watch it when we get home. Can think of worse things to be doing though & surely this game has to better than the Leicester one earlier in the season. I sense a famous 4-0 SFC win.
