  1. Redknapp would have been sh*t at the job as well; and precisely for the reason that there are no transfers, he'd have had to make do with the players he is given and get the best out of them rather than replacing them wholesale for costly imports. Hodgson is a terrible old duffer but I very much doubt Redknapp would have been any better. His last season at QPR was a sign of what he'd become.
  2. Very much this. Progression as I see it is to finish in the top 10 for 2 or 3 seasons and win a cup. 7th is a great achievement but it's not one to tell the grandchildren about. Our only realistic chance of progression comes from the cups; thankfully Ronald takes them seriously and I imagine he'll do the same with Europe.
  3. Still posts on the UI; as do quite a few of the old b-anter crowd.
  4. From the OP: "Don't worry though - the pain of tumbling back into mediocrity will surely be offset by a nicely worded club statement." What a prize chopper.
  5. It's nice to see one can take a break from the forum, come back and still not much changes. Alpine is still the same old angry, furious, getting it wrong all the time troll as ever. Happy days.
  6. RIP pap. None of the good posters post here any more and you can see why
  7. Yep. Given how absolutely dreadful a standard League 2 is, it has been laughable how badly Pompey have done for 2 years. Even a manager who is halfway competent should have them in and around the play-offs at the very least. Cook seems a good bet who knows the division; if they don't go up next year under him then it will be another year of spectacularly comedic failure.
  8. Oh Bear. I try and be nice and pay you compliments and you have to bring up the bad old days. So much for live and let live
  9. Jed Wallace looks like being the latest victim of the hero-to-villian status from the Pompey boo-boys, by admitting that its likely he'll be off in the summer. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/wallace-on-pompey-future-1-6723620 Apparently he has a massive £275K release clause Saints should buy him for that, just for the lols.
  10. You're not worth the money, lad.
  11. Here is Kraken's list. It's all about opinions, obvs. 1) Bearsy. I love the Bear, he's my favourite by a distance. 2) CB Fry. Knowledgeable and cracks me up. 3) Turkish. Knows what's what, full stop. 4) rallyboy. A literary genius. 5) pap. He seems a good lad and is totally self deprecating, which is a strong trait in my book. Sometimes I think about paying my fiver and getting back amongst the fold properly again. These chaps are amoongst the reasons why. to them. Muppets, care to share?
  12. Pundits on BT were scathing of Kelvin for his positioning for goal 2, said that he should never have let one in from that angle. Rightly so IMO.
  13. Well yes; we'd have scored 6 or 7 if we'd have converted only half of our shots on target. Good performance today.
  14. Remember this game from 2002/03? Great goal from Pahars but you barely hear any Saints fans bang on about this one. Same for the FA Cup 3-0 in the mid nineties, I'm fairly sure no-one talked about that even the season afterwards. You just know, though, that Pompey fans are going to cling to their 4-1s forever and a day. That, and a history that 99% of them weren't alive to experience, is all they have.
  15. It's been brought up before on this thread, but the law in this country really is an absolute arse. The alleged victim gets her identity kept secret for life; and rightly so. But the alleged perpetrator is announced to the general public long before the trial has begun. There's still every chance that Johnson is actually innocent, yet he'll be on the front pages of the newspapers until the trial is finished and a decision made. If he is guilty then he deserves all he gets and more. But if he's actually innocent in all this? The whole process is a joke.
  16. It seems like some are convinced that past lessons aren't being learnt...
  17. It seems the Pompey Mistrust have had an open members meeting tonight. Surprisingly things didn't go all that well and the Mistrust came in for quite some flak. Some comments from POL..... Ah well, at least they own their own club.
  18. The UEFA Cup predominantly existed for English clubs to qualify for Europe without actually winning anything. Champions went into the European Cup, FA Cup winners into the Cup Winners Cup. It's hardly a new phenomenon that winning nothing qualified you for Europe. Same for the Champions League these days.
  19. Well that's certainly some leap you've made there. 9 points ahead of 8th place and its its still much more likely than not that Arsenal will win the FA Cup.
  20. I hope its 5 at the back as opposed to Toby in holding midfield. I prefer when we keep our prime back 4 as it is, rather than move to Toby to RB or CM. Still, Ronald knows what he's doing
  21. 5 at the back or Yoshida in the holding role? The former, I'd have thought. An "interesting" selection.
  22. I think this is the same divot who had the same argument over on the UI, with the same outcome. The reasoning behind it all is very clear, and it was announced at the start of the season. There seems to be only one plonker who hasn't quite grasped it yet. And he's not even going to the game, so a non-issue in the first place just became even more irrelevant.
  23. Go on the Cherries.
  24. They can just do what Pompey did when they got the PL. Refuse to pay the money to upgrade the media facilities and pay the minuscule PL fine for having sub-standard facilities instead.
