I agree. But in the manager's eyes it clearly did need fixing, Cork got subbed off in a few games towards the end of the season. It was fairly clear that MP wasn't as enamoured with the partnership as fans were.

I think you're missing the point Charlie. It's not that he wouldn't have made the bench under MP. It's that some people think it would have been better if he did make the bench (and even the team). Speculating that MP maybe doesn't make all the right decisions all the time. Opinions, in other words.

The thing is Alpy, I think the majority recognise how depressing it was to see Puncheon let go without replacement. Only a few blowhards will try to argue against the fact that, while we're a good, solid side, we're also a bit predictable and missing a bit of pace and a bit of skill in a wide midfield position or two. So letting go of one of the only players we have that can do that is a bit barmy IMO. Never mind; transfer window isn't closed yet and all that....

He's on a four year contract. why are you judging him on only half of his contract FFS? Everyone knows it often takes players more than two years to settle and be brilliant.

Not that pace is the be all and end all of a footballer; not even slightly. But I think you're right: who was our quickest player on the pitch today? Normally it would be JRod but without him, who? Can't see that Lallana and JWP are all that quick. Morgan and Wanyama, not so much. Chambers and Fox don't seem overly blessed, although neither are slow. Ossie? Its certainly not Rickie....

Sorry NickG, I guess I read your original post wrong. I guess when I heard you say we should target 6th I thought you meant we could finish 6th. I thought that when you target something, you do so because it can be realistically achieved. I didn't know you thought we should target 6th without actually believing we would achieve it. That was my mistake. I'm glad you clarified it. In sentences. With spaces in between them. Good.

Well said. The "we don't play wingers" brigade are quite persistent, though. To be honest I'd quite like to have a "winger" plus our attacking full backs back in the side, I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive.

He took us up two divisions in two years. If that's not taking us forward then I don't know what is. You can try to re-write history all you like, but he proved you consistently wrong by gaining promotion when you were steadfast that he'd fail even at our lower levels. He's not cut-out for a top ten aspiring PL side but he proved to be exactly what we needed at the time.

Being as we've only had one so far I'd find it difficult to comment on a plurality of home attendances, if I'm honest.

Excellent effort. I thought anything over 500 for effectively a reserve team game would be good. Our travelling support really has swelled since our last days in the PL.
