  1. I was onece told: 'Always remember that the Good Lord will not heap on your shoulders more than you can carry.'
  2. Ah, but that is my point! Only by asking questions can we get answers, grasshopper.
  3. Oh, I thought it was 'kissed'.
  4. Exactly! And where are they now?
  5. I'm not sure on this, but I think we would have won the replay and hence won the tie, but don't quote me.
  6. I can't keep up any more.
  7. Most of then are older than me! Never insult your most loyal customers [-X
  8. We are talking about penalties to decide the outcome of the match, not extra time or time allowed for stoppages. It's only a matter for the historians and usually such matches have the riders a.e.t. or 2-2 at full time, so-and-so went through on penalties. So England won the World Cup in 1966, Italy knocked us out of Italia '90 after the match was drawn. Personally I have never considered any team to have won anything if the final was decided on penalty kicks, you might just as well toss a coin.
  9. I know that, it just seems to be a poor commercial decision to me.
  10. Sorry but I don't like cats. It's probably cheaper to have him/her put down.
  11. All of them or some of them?
  12. The meaning of life is life itself. Doesn't help much does it? Ask yourself these questions: Why is the sky so beautifully blue if only mankind appreciates it? Why are there other stars and galaxies if not to teach us that there is more out there. Is this all there is?
  13. Good luck, I'm pleased to hear that. the important thing to remember is to enjoy every minute of your playing career. I just wish I could be out there hitting a ball with the rest of them. There's too much emphasis on the goalscorer these days but as long as the manager is happy with his contribution then he should be too.
  14. Interesting question. I think it's the fans that make someone a legend, someone who is still talked about regularly after their sporting career is over. As far as Saints are concerned I suppose that would include Bates, Davies, Stokes, Ball, Keegan, Channon, Le Tissier to name but a few.
  15. To his credit, I did notice for Lamber'ts penalty that he timed his run properly so that he didn't encroach.
  16. Technically, legally, that is probably the correct word but I don't really care, it's only one for the statisticians. All I care about is who goes through
  17. Yes it would. As soon as Papa goes for the ball he has committed the offence of offside. Previously the linesman could have flagged for the offence when Bart kicked it. Now they have to wait to see what happens and hence the delayed flag.
  18. Well, the JPT is on a Tuesday evening just before Christmas when everybody is working frantically up to the deadline, whereas the Cup is on a quiet Saturday in that dead period between Christmas and the return to work. No, I don't understand it either. When we were drawn at home I was quite excited. Now it's almost an away game for half the supporters.
  19. No, absolutely not true. That is not the current instrucion to assistant referees under the current Laws.
  20. Pardew's doing fine by me. I'm happy for him to carry on the way that he is now.
  21. Not again! Please learn the Laws before saying that. He was offside when the ball was kicked by Bart. The flag was delayed until he interfered with play.
  22. There's a little bit in the Mail today: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1235561/All-fizz-Coca-Cola-Football-League.html 'Cheap at half the price'. Where do they get this bit about 'cash-strapped Saints'?
  23. Completely right! I refer the honorouble gentleman to the answer I gave earlier: "gaining an advantage by being in that position” means playing a ball that rebounds to him off a goalpost or the crossbar having been in an offside position or playing a ball that rebounds to him off an opponent having been in an offside position. Please go and discuss with a qualified official for the latest instructions to assistant referees.
  24. Nor can I, but it's not my decision. The club don't think that we'll get a very big crowd, around 12k to 14k, so they have decide not to open the Kingsland at this stage. I asked a few STs who sit near me on Saturday whether they would go if they could not get their regular seat. It's not a very big sample but 4 had already reluctantly bought tickets for the Itchen and 7 said that they would only go if they could have their 'own' seat. I believe that we could get a similar crowd to last Saturday but not if we close half the ground.
  25. Take it up with FIFA. The penalty kicks do not form part of the match but are a means of deciding which team progresses to the next stage.
