How much are the 'mortgage' repayments they must be of the order of £2m per year. Most other clubs in League 1 will not be saddled with those but our income will be very similar to theirs, unless we can fill the stadium which won't happen with this manager and what would be left of this squad. Get in a proper manager with experience of the lower leagues. Get back all the loanees and we might just have a small chance. If nothing else, he'll have time to get to know the squad and prepare for next season.

For the first time this season I am REALLY ANGRY! We played 50 minutes against 10 men and Sheffield looked comfortable throughout. We started with McLaggon and Lallana so we only had 9 players really. We have Skacel, Euell and BWP who are costing us a lot of money and yet we start with lightweights. We've loaned out proven regular goalscorers and week after week we see teams come to St Mary's with players you've never heard of who can turn our so-called fullbacks inside-out and stroke the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards out whilst our load are having wild swings at the ball when they are not too busy falling over. Wotte hasn't got a clue. McGoldrick is ponderous and unfit. McLaggon lost posession every time he got the ball, bring back Ali Dia. We don't have a right-back. James kept trying to cross the ball as soon as he got into their half. The first time this season that he gets to the bye-line we get a goal! Please can we have a proper manager before it's too late. We weren't unlucky, we just aren't very good.

It means that I won't pass judgment on him until I've seen him play a few games, but my expectations are not very high. The two are not inconsistent and I look forward to being pleasantly surprised.

The club can't just call off the game because it's cold, or rainy, or because they don't think the crowd will be very big. There would be big sanctions from the League. If it's called off by the ref or the police then it's a different matter.

I went to Chelsea once for a midweek game. I picked my daughter up at Reading and drove through thunder and lightning and a continuous downpoor. We arrived at the ground, bought a programme and got to 10 feet from our seats when the steward told us that the game had been called off, which I knew would happen anyway. My sympathies go to those Saints fans who got to Newcastle a few years ago only for the match to be called off because the roads around the stadium were a 'bit icy'. Northern softies!
