He did well to get back and make that tackle but he was fortunate that the forward miscontrolled the ball and gave him the chance. The forward only got that chance in the first place because Stephens was ball watching in their half.
I can’t for the life of me see how it could ever be called ‘defending’.
It's a bit like the way that they abandon sea defences and call it ‘managed retreat’. No, it’s just ‘retreat’.
A decent and succinct summary.
The question is, of course, why aren’t we playing well enough? On paper our squad should easily be good enough. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, the game isn’t played on paper.
I once asked Richard Hall how much the crowd affected the team on the pitch. He said that they were too busy concentrating on the game to really notice it.
It was that wild slash at the ball in the first half that finally settled it for me. Either hammer it low across goal or at least get a shot on target but that effort was woefully amateurish.
Only the immediate neighbours joined in. For the rest of the crowd it was an unnecessary distraction. It takes a lot to get the geriatrics in the Kingsland to join in but it can happen. Banging a board won’t do it.
