  1. We seem to buy players who fail both those criteria.
  2. Because usually when a player's sold their wages are no longer on the books. When we buy a player we need to consider the whole package, purchase fee and wages included. It's possible to 'snap up' a player nearing the end of their contract on a very low fee but that can be offset by the higher wages that they expect.
  3. I share your sentiments but you have expressed them far better than I ever could.
  4. I’m not bothered about England. I don’t expect any progress and I don’t expect to be disappointed. I remember 1966 clearly enough (RIP Ray Wilson) and we’ve been going steadily downhill ever since, with one or two blips. I shall probably be caravanning around France for the latter stages anyway and watching selected matches on my phone like last time.
  5. They suit me. I’m tired and grubby too.
  6. Good, that’s one team that will finish below us
  7. They did the jobs that they were brought in for. They were always going to be short term appointments.
  8. It would end up as Virgin Mary’s.
  9. Cheers, enjoy the 'off' season
  10. It's not so much that I'm anti Puel it's just that it was an abject experience barring a couple of highlights.
  11. I'm not a betting man. It's bad enough trying to run your own business.
  12. Give it a rest with all this '8th' nonsense. What was it, 46 points? Leicester ended up on 47 this year with a squad that had won the league very recently so he hasn't actually progressed very far on that basis.
  13. It was an awful, miserable evening. To see the looks afterwards on the little kiddies who were all dressed up in Saints gear and were wondering what all the fuss was about. Nope, it was unforgiiveable and shameful. I would even call it despicable. They took our money under false pretences.
  14. Would anybody want him back here?
  15. Also the fewest starting XI changes by a long way. 34 as opposed to Liverpool’s 135. We were mid table with 90. Crystal Palace were next lowest with 64. From The Times (paywall) https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-alternative-premier-league-tables-7qbx6ktvd
  16. Did he give away his boots and socks too? I couldn’t see that far down.
  17. Or knew that he was going?
  18. He was given an entry into the Europa Cup and totally blew it. Throwing the Home cup game against Arsenal was even worse and is as underachieving as you could possibly get.
  19. I agree with all of you. Lovely to see him on the Lap of Appreciation with his wife and kiddie. They certainly seemed to be enjoying it all.
  20. It’s broken up into various offshore schemes. Paying for ‘image rights’ through an offshore company is one way.
  21. He knows the players and he knows the club. What we need now is a period of stabilisation especially with a very short transfer window.
  22. There is zero reason except for greed.
  23. Job done. Not just today but over the last few games. Hughes has found a way to get the results out of this set of players but I’d like to think that with a full pre-season and a better knowledge of the players and with a few changes we can look forward to a period of stabilisation. Glad this season is out of the way. Let’s move on.
  24. Me too. Anyone who was at Pride Park that night will feel the same.
