Exactly this. He has improved. Last season he went chasing after everything instead of sticking to his man. Now he tries to hang on to him but still gets beaten.

Then he needs to wise up a lot. There are ways to block a run which, whilst not actually illegal, are pushing the laws a stretch. Grabbing hold of a shirt is likely to concede a penalty.

But only for an infinitesimally short period of time. So short that it can be ignored.

But the football under him was worse than awful. Extremely painful to have to sit through.

That’s all that Pellegrino cares about. Control the game first and then hope to win. He said as much in an earlier interview.
