Indeed. That was the point I was trying to make.

On the flip side of that then Turks, why aren't you out demonstrating against the murder of an innocent British Muslim by racist extremists?... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/may/02/birmingham-murder-racially-motivated-police And more to the point, what exactly do the EDL hope to achieve by their demonstration? It's not going to bring Drummer Rigby back is it.
-
This was posted elsewhere in response to a very thought-provoking article about the situation, and the author of it has requested that it be shared everywhere in the hope that it can help others to reflect on the consequences of the actions of the EDL and their ilk. I fully appreciate that the thought and emotion behind it will be lost on most of them, but it deserves everybody's attention.

I stopped reading your post after I got to this point, because it is utter, utter b8lllocks and displays a truly astonishing degree of ignorance. What you, and so many other it seems, seem completely unable to grasp is that Islam is not one single entity. Every single person who has either converted to it or was born into it has their own way of interpreting the verses and integrating that which they feel fits with their world view into their lives, in exactly the same way followers of other religions do. Take Christianity for example... If every Christian on this planet followed the teachings of the bible to the letter then they would all be murdering women for the heinous crime of having sex outside of marriage. How many Christians do you know who do that? I'm guessing none. The extremists no more represent the beliefs of Islam on the whole than the folk at The Westboro Baptist Church do for the rest of the Christian world. This is why I also couldn't bring myself to watch the rest of those video diaries you posted above, because although the guy does make some very valid points (particularly about the rulers of Saudi Arabia) he seems, as you do, utterly incapable of separating the person from the whole. This is summed up so much more eloquently than I could put it in this article... http://www.guardian.co.uk/global/2013/may/19/mohsin-hamid-islam-not-monolith

Please, everybody just ignore this trolling idiot. He admitted to me via PM the other day that he doesn't really know the guy who was in the process of selling his house in Bassett to Morgan and that he only claimed he did to pretend to be ITK. He's not worth a single second of anybody's attention. My thoughts exactly.

This is one of the unfortunate side-effects of being religious. It blinds you and makes you make ridiculous statements like this... http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/video-pat-robertson-blames-tornado-victims-not-praying

This is precisely my argument to those who see Christ and the bible as proof of his existence. If an omnipotent, all-knowing, all-loving creator being really wanted the world to know he existed so we might praise and worship him, he couldn't have chosen a worse way to do it really. Apparently we are to believe he sent his only son (in human form, of course) to spread his message and to sacrifice himself for all our sins, then buggered off - never to be heard from again. Yeah.... right! We are also supposed to believe that he sent a great flood to the world to cleanse it of evil. Well I hate to break it to you Mr god, but you didn't exactly succeed with that one did you. And surely if you really wanted to eliminate evil, being god and all, you could have come up with a much more effective way of doing it.

And the safe-standing that a lot of them have as well, I would imagine.

What I find very disturbing is that this thread is two years old. I remember it like it was only a few weeks ago!

Yes I had, but I didn't take that into account for the skates, so I guess that makes them 44th instead of 55th.
-
Indeed. this is the crux of it for me. Church leaders are making so much noise about it because they are terrified of the idea that their opinion is no longer valid when it comes to policy-making.

One slight development (and again, I am not claiming to be ITK about anything here)... Just speaking to a mutual friend who knows the vendor a lot better than I do, and it turns out that Morgan agreed to buy the place after he was given his new contract recently.

All you need to know is... Saints: 12th Pompey: 55th

I wouldn't be so sure. He admitted when he was contracted to make the first movie that he was never a fan of Star Trek and didn't really understand the fascination some people had with it. That's just plain wrong IMO, but Paramount made a commercial decision and it seems to have paid off for them. In giving the franchise as broad appeal as as possible, they have alienated (no pun intended) a sizable chunk of their core followers. But they have obviously made a vast profit as well, and let's not kid ourselves that there was any other reason for them to do it.

Of course they should, if they wanted to, but why would they? Heterosexual people already have the special privilege of being allowed to have a proper marriage, so why on Earth would they choose to have a civil partnership instead? When they were introduced the mindset was "Well we will let you have some recognition, but we're still not allowing you to have the same rights as normal people".

End of Season Review: 14th Place - 41 points
Sheaf Saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
A decent summary, but quite how they can nominate Forren as the worst player when he didn't actually play a single minute is beyond me. I take it this guy didn't see any of our games where Danny Fox played. -
Probably the possibility of a handball from Fonte in the build up to our goal?
-
It's not though. Christianity (or Islam or Judaism come to that matter) does not own the institution of marriage - it existed long before the bible was written. This is why the argument that "marriage should be between a man and a woman because that's what it says in the bible" doesn't wash.

I have yet to see Into Darkness, but this was almost word-for-word my criticism of the 2009 film. If you take the Trek-specs off and look at it as nothing more than a big-budget sci-fi action movie then it works really well. But the success of the Star Trek series (IMO anyway) was that despite the fact they are based on a fictional, fantasised possible human future, they all had a certain amount of realism about them. For example, the series all paid attention to maritime tradition and military command structure aboard all of the ships / stations. Yet Abrams' first film brushed all of that aside with the frankly ridiculous notion that a cadet who had been suspended, marooned and who then carried out a mutiny could then forgo the years and years of hard work and unblemished service that would normally be required to be given command of Starfleet's flagship. This is something that simply wouldn't happen in any sane organisation anywhere on Earth or otherwise.

I honestly don't know. I haven't spoken this mate of mine for a few months (since I was last in Southampton) and I didn't realise he was even in the process of selling his house to Morgan, but I have no reason to disbelieve him. I know his house is worth a fair bob after the massive extension he built on it a few years ago. It's in a very desirable part of Bassett, and although it is quite small in comparison to the kind of gated mansion that you would normally associate with a PL footballer, it seems perfectly reasonable.

Yes. A large and expensive property in Bassett.

Don't shoot the messenger here. I've just seen this Facebook update from a mate of mine...

Like Morgan Schneiderlin perhaps? (provided we keep hold of him over the summer that is). Although I can understand why it was given to him, I think having the captaincy has proven to be a burden for him and it has shown in his performances when wearing the armband. I firmly believe that the captain of any team should be a hard-working, battling type of player - which Lallana just isn't. His propensity to just complain to the referee when he gets brushed off the ball too easily (as he does far too often) and his repeated failure to track back and help out defensively are two attributes that a captain should never have IMO. It doesn't set a good example to the other players around him.
