Saints 4-0 Sheffield Wednesday - Saturday 3pm
Sheaf Saint replied to goodymatt's topic in The Saints
I was just going to post the same thing. Yes, they've improved recently, and on paper their win yesterday looks very good, but in reality they are still very limited and vulnerable at the back. Hopefully their new found confidence will encourage them to attack a bit more, which will play right into our hands by leaving gaps for us to play forward into. But if they do what others have done and park the bus, we just need to remain patient, keep our concentration at the back, and make sure we don't let Alcaraz take any penalties they might concede! -
On top of all this, we've just recalled Thierry Small from his loan at St Mirren as well, so it seems highly unlikely we will be targeting a new LB in this window.
-
Eastleigh will be in the hat, having drawn at Newport despite being behind and having a player sent off.
-
Adams! Is the transfer window open perchance? 🤔
-
That dummy just now to get away from the pressing attacker showed great confidence.
-
Great finish from Fraser. Lovely ball in to him from Alcaraz as well. Good job he wasn't trying too hard eh?
-
Because it wasn't a foul. Good tackle.
-
Smallbone should have made it 3.
-
Superb timing!
-
Pompey losing away at Cheltenham now after taking the lead early in 2nd half.
-
SAA slightly unfortunate to get booked there. Don't think it was intentional at all - was just trying to get the other side of the player and caught him accidentally.
-
What a ball that is from THB!
-
FRASER!
-
Yeah surely this.
-
Who's that in the picture?
-
It's tricky enough even in HD.
-
It's being shown live in the US and Australia, so there's bound to be streams available.
-
Well we used to have Jesus at right back, so I guess it's not completely out of the question.

He's still developing so any additional game time is a positive. His distribution is such an important aspect of how we play, so keeping him in with whatever other changes we make outfield will maintain some stability. Bringing in a completely untested keeper just for the sake of it, along with wholesale changes to our outfield players, is just going to cause more unnecessary disruption IMO.

I've never understood why almost everyone advocates playing our backup keeper in these kind of games. Why? The keeper is the one player who doesn't need resting/rotating and I would much rather let Baz continue to build confidence. If we want to rest players but still put out a team likely to win so we can keep our momentum going, it seems like an absolute no-brainer to stick with our first choice goalie.

Mad to think there were some on here actually suggesting we should appoint him in the summer.
-
Sheff Weds - our next league opponents - got a very good result at home to Hull today. They're definitely improving after a terrible start. Reckon they might actually stay up.
-
Don't think Russ got it right from the start today, with square pegs in round holes, but that's ultimately not the reason we failed to win because it didn't costs us in the first half. Clearly we had the better of the chances and should have scored more, but credit to Norwich and particularly Josh Sargent for a very calm and composed finish of the type our attackers appear to be incapable of. We all knew this would be our trickiest fixture over the xmas period, so having won the other 3 a draw is not a terrible result by any means, it's just frustrating that we had the chances to win it but couldn't take them. A recurring theme in our away games recently.

It's finished 0-0 at Stoke so at least we haven't lost ground on Ipswich.

Wrong option from Arma. Should have hit it low in the corner.
