"Iraq Was No Threat" - Former Head Of MI5

The real solution is just to get into renewables already. I mean we are a bloody massive island... we could get tonnes are power from tidal. -
To be honest, you don't really know anything of my life whatsoever. I come on here to debate, not present my personality and posture.

"Iraq Was No Threat" - Former Head Of MI5

Something about the phrase 'War Crimes' doesn't sit well with me. Killing someone and doing lots of the stuff many countries do, and yes we did in Iraq is always a crime, it's just whether it is justified or not. Then again crime is totally subjective. -
I don't know how long Lallana will wait around if we aren't promoted this year. He is too good for the Championship and is hardly young anymore.

What's that got to do with anything I just said?! The problem with UKIP is they are a one man show, they have little depth beyond Nigel Farage and if they want to do better at elections they need to sort it out pronto. And I know you will probably come out with lots of names now, but to the general public they are anonymous. Just look at Lord Pearson... Also, the fact the conservative party exists doesn't help. You need PR really. But I was talking about the BNP, not UKIP though if you want to associate those two parties I welcome you to it, it will only make UKIP's brand toxic. Also, are you suggesting there is a link between Lib Dem decline and UKIP rise?!??! And the Liberal Democrats have had a recovery in opinion polls lately. They were on 17% in the latest ICM poll.
-
Exactly. Just look at the rise and fall of the BNP over the last say 5 years. Some people gave them a chance, they aired their views on a national scale and now thankfully, everyone is rejecting them. Electoral collapses left, right and centre.
-
I absolutely hate the EDL and everything they say and stand for. However, they should not be denied a voice ever. Freedom of speech must be total and span all views, even those which frankly disgust most of us.
-
Why isn't this on the government petition site?

The real sign of pass at GCSE is 5 A*-C grades including maths and English. What were the statistics for that this year???
-
Well, I am annoyed by the rise in fees. But I hardly have a choice. I want to go to university and now its 9k. There's no alternative for me, especially in the kind of jobs I would want to do. My 2 passions are science and politics and with AAA, the Unis I'll be applying to will all be 9k a year. I'll have to put a 5th choice down this year though, I'm thinking along the lines of a philosophy degree or a politics degree from somewhere as a back up.

Some people just click suddenly and go absolutely mad. Such a sad story. Commiserations to all those in grieving. -
I think you all misunderstand what I am saying. Of course I want to be able to support a family successfully. What I am saying though is if earning 100k+ a year means I have to be miserable then frankly I'd rather earn less.
-
Because I am fascinated by it. I really am not motivated by money, and it is by no means guaranteed I'll get into it this year due to the competitiveness of it! I've been looking at Philosophy and Politics degrees too as back up, and I can tell you they aren't generally high earners either.
-
Not overly. Not beyond food, water, shelter and the ability to have a few good nights out. Having good friends is much more important. I really do not understand those who amalgamate money and just sit on it.
-
I don't really care about the money. I'd rather be doing a good job I enjoy, as long as I am not living in poverty. But above a certain point, it doesn't matter.
-
But you have people like that in every generation. I don't think it is a symptom of the university system.
-
I agree with you on Film and Media Studies not being as hard as the traditional subjects. However, in fairness people have had it bashed into them that if they get a degree, any degree that is the way to make a living. I've never come across anyone who has this sense of entitlement you talk of though. What we need done is: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/universityeducation/8707656/A-level-results-tough-subjects-should-carry-more-Ucas-points-says-David-Willetts.html The 9k a year tuition fee makes it worse. People are going to get into huge debts with degrees which are barely worth the paper they are written on. Don't be so bitter towards those who do take maths and sciences and so on by belittling the qualification as easy, because it isn't.
-
And I don't know why some people here are obsessing over money! Some professions like Medicine, Law etc etc will always require university education regardless of pay.
-
@Turkish I was referring to your assertions that A Levels are **** easy!
-
@Turkish You really have no idea.
-
Oh please! I'd like to see you take a further maths paper or a physics paper or a chemistry paper and get above a U.
-
The AS pass rate is much lower than the A level pass rate, for reasons just stated. People only go on to do the A2 year if they are good enough and even then only A-C grades are really worth looking at in relation to universities. D and E grades don't get you in.
-
Yep, done my UKCAT already, got 670. Just need to think now whether I want to give UCL another go in which case I'd have to do the BMAT again like last year or give Kings a shot as my first choice(I really want to go to uni in London!). I have a few weeks to decide that though. Definitely going to give Sussex a go this year though as I was on their reserve list this year, so fingers cross I can go one step further! But yer, I am definitely going to be strategical about where I apply. Thanks for all the advice
-
Well, I applied for medicine and didn't get in so I will reapply for that this year. And yes, Chemistry is a little ***** at times, especially the A2 year. It's meant to be the hardest one with Further Maths and Physics so to do well in that stands you in good stead for the future. And I guess you are off to uni now?
