  1. I think he was making the point that it is a very weak argument to just say that someone just copies their views from a newspaper just because A. they happen to quote a news story from that newspaper and B. because their opinion seems to have some crossover with something said in that newspaper.
  2. Tbh, I don't think either of us know exactly what the great British public want at the moment. I don't really think most people have thought about it in the same way they would were the arguments out in the open from both sides. And polls and what not are not the same as a referendum. I remember a time when AV was quite a substantial amount ahead in opinion polls.
  3. Not at all. If there is a referendum, and we vote to leave... then that is that. But I can still think it is wrong and join a campaign to rejoin immediately afterwards. But I don't think that the result would necessarily end up being an out one, once all the sides have their say. The City has a big vested interest in staying in the EU and the City is both very rich and very powerful, so that's just one aspect that has yet to come into play that will. As for the 'do I just believe what the guardian tells me?'. It's a bit of a silly comment. Most people in this country are moderately right of centre or moderately left or centre and there is a newspaper to reflect both of those views. Of course I am influenced by things I may read in the guardian, just as I can be influenced by something I read in the Mail, though usually in a different way.
  4. I've said this before and I'll say it again. In a globalised world you can't isolate yourself in the way we are planning to do. The EU is a massive bloc, both in finance and power. When the EU says or does something, it is noted. We have the opportunity if we want to be at that EU table driving the decisions the EU makes. If we want to be able to compete with China and the US in the future, it will have to be through the EU. The UK isn't a super power anymore. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/nov/25/britain-europe-european-union - here is an interesting and well written article on those who assume the out vote would romp to victory.
  5. Well, in that case, time to use some of these supposed extra millions we have on a nice new centre back. We need one anyway as our cover is rubbish for premier standard.
  6. I think the law is a police officer is allowed to search someone as long as they have reasonable suspicion they are in possession of something illegal like drugs or a knife. However, before they search you, you are entitled to ask to see their warrant staff, get their full name and number, know what they suspect you of and the powers they are enacting to search you in the first place. If any of this isn't forthcoming or correct, you can refuse as a police officer under normal circumstances isn't just allowed to search you. That is illegal under an ECHR ruling from 2010. However, I believe in some places like airports and such the police can have extra permissions if decreed. But I don't really see how those extra permissions are at all relevant for smoking in a toilet... though they could obviously say they had reasonable suspicion as the alarm went off. But cigarettes aren't illegal, so even if you did have them on you because you were a smoker I don't see how that would prove you guilty.
  7. Villa, Wigan and Newcastle are all winnable and win them we must. Do that and we'll be quite alright. The rest is bonus.
  8. I don't think it would be the end of the world. I think we have enough depth in most positions to be able to rotate and cope well with the extra games. I'm pretty damn impressed with the amount of top football Luke Shaw is playing, considering his age.
  9. Oh yay. Go me. Hopefully now I can achieve 15,000 posts and be as interesting as you.
  10. Why thank you for your approval. I can only dream that one day my posts will live up to the prolific, yet detailed and fascinating nature of yours.
  11. To ensure that all posts meet your stringent depth guidelines that you of course have kept to in all 15,703 of your posts.
  12. Yes, and quite vacuous just like most comments on a football forum. In fact, I think in future all posts should be subject to your moderation and should be at least 500 words long to ensure depth.
  13. Just like your fantastic insight then of Rodriegeuz 'becoming a player'...
  14. Probably because we are allowing him to play in his actual position a bit more. He will replace Lambert well when the time comes.
  15. I wish I was young. I'm not even a teenager anymore... extremely depressing! Ahahah, this was a few years back now... though maybe if I get bored sometime I should return for another goading session. It's extremely difficult though, you have to be ridiculously subtle or you are instantly banned!
  16. Been banned a couple of times. I don't know why they are so tetchy!
  17. I liked Boruc today. When he gets the ball, he holds on to it and it has been a problem with Davis that he sometimes flaps at it meaning a goal from that flap. Whole team had great performances. Perhaps Puncheon was a little bit below par today, but he still had some flashes of exciting play. But the MOTM for me is Schneiderlin, he was everywhere and his link play was key. And we are out of the relegation zone again
  18. Finally. Rodriegeuz gets to play in his actual position!
  19. I think it might have been Lambert who was offside standing in front of the keeper.
  20. Need more goals. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we manage a clean sheet against this team.
  21. Don't be ridiculous. I save that sort of undiluted pleasure for Birthdays!
  22. Finally getting on a bit then with those plans Used to hate it when I was little and was forced to watch Jools Holland every year at midnight. As for an answer to the OP. Off to a party in a little bit.
  23. Probably a fair result. Obviously disappointed in many ways now, but tbh I would have taken a point away to stoke and I think we have a lot of positives to take from todays game. Such great delivery from the wings by Puncheon and Guly stands out for me, and of course Lambert's few contributions as ever mattering most.
  24. Can't argue with that.
