  1. If it is official business... why shouldn't they claim it on expenses. An MPs salary, while substantially more than average, is still only £65k... not enough to fund Afghanistan trips! If your work asked you to go to Afghanistan and then said you have to pay for it all, I'm sure you'd be ****ed off! If you meant in their own private time, then I apologise for that rant.
  2. Yer, I've heard he's funny. But never really watched any of him before, so was a bit disappointed by that. But I'll take your word for it, and maybe youtube a bit of him later.
  3. The song isn't amazingly funny. But I hate when people get het up over offence. Nothing happens. The Daily Mail and co are the worst for getting stuff effectively banned out of fear of the storm if it is broadcast.
  4. So do you think, we invaded and conquered India so we could live as equals with them... or do you think it was to exploit their wealth and gain power? And I am sure there are people with more knowledge than me, but I'm allowed my interpretation. Do you have a counter argument or do you agree with me? Would be interesting to hear your interpretation.
  5. Oh for sure. Even Gandhi was allegedly dogey at times when black people were involved(though I don't know enough about that particular issue to speak with lots of confidence). I don't deny racism is a white only issue.
  6. Ahaha, here is where I spout my ****
  7. Why does it surprise?! Na, I just think it is so awkward... but hey, each to their own!
  8. In the same way Curzon was fascinated by India and pro-India. In a... 'Oh, look at those poor brown people, what interesting culture... look at those buildings, we should help them'. We didn't treat or think of them as equals. End of.
  9. I have no doubt my opinions will change and I am quite happy for that to happen when presented with the evidence for me to do so(though not necessarily towards your opinion). My opinions have already changed quite substantially within even the last 2 years. All opinions are quite boxey though when condensed to a few paragraphs. I'm a fan of post-modernism. There isn't an absolute right way or absolute truth as to how things should be.
  10. Said succinctly and better than I ever could. Ethnicity is a silly term as well though technically, they should just ask skin colour if that is what they want(which it is), as ethnicity is just what group you feel you belong to. A white person could technically feel like he has an afro-caribbean ethnicity!
  11. Rudyard Kipling. It was the attitude of the day that other cultures needed to be ruled over by whites to help them develop.
  12. I agree that labels are dumb. I have always said I wish people would stop concentrating on what colour they are, what geographical area of land they come from and just start to realise that we are all HUMAN.
  13. That's just a silly thing to say. If I had more experience, I would think the same things as you. If that were true, everyone who is older than me would think the same as you, and then don't. Just learn to accept people have different opinions.
  14. I don't pretend to be the voice of 'the young generation'. Several of my friends would disagree with me on many issues(though none of them used the term coloured!). My experiences in life are narrow, though so are yours. Most people have not experienced much except from their own perspective and it is only from that that we can formulate our opinions.
  15. I'm on a gap year. I'm going to University next year, so that'll be good. I know many use it, my Grandparents do! And I don't have a go at them for it. It's a generational thing. I think intent is important. I'm not a fan of overt PC stuff.
  16. I hate small talk with the hairdressers!
  17. Indeed, I just wish certain people on this forum could co-exist and argue without descent into petty insults!
  18. I never said no-one.
  19. In which case you can't speak for anyone either, so you better shut up as well. In fact, none of us can, so we all better shut up. Of course I can only speak for those I have met, all of us can only do that. So what you say is an obvious, and therefore pointless thing to state. If you live by what you say, you shouldn't take part in any arguments such as this. I really think a lot of people on this forum have large problems with opposing opinions.
  20. The thing is none of us are actually going to convince each other either way, so this is all rather pointless. I think it is just a generational thing again.
  21. The 40+ band wasn't said by me. I just said young people which is 25 and under or there abouts.
  22. I have no idea. In older populations, yes. In younger populations, indifference and avoidance. It doesn't carry the same sting as the N word.
  23. It's a well known arguing technique known as 'implicit opinion'. Get over yourself. I have never met anyone my age who refers to black people as coloured. End of. The young peoples term is black.
