  1. He picked England rather than South Africa. Fair play, but not smart.
  2. This. I was at the Ipswich game when they announced we'd signed him. They showed a video on the big screens. He looked like Pele. 2/10 for performance, 11/10 for expectations.
  3. please start a thread on what a disaster this is. pretty please.
  4. Hull City at home
  5. I remember how enfuriating it was before the days of the internet-world-web-thingy. Can remember as a kid being on holiday in Corfu or somewhere and finally tracking down a Sunday newspaper on the following Tuesday showing, I think, Saints had drawn 2-2 with Liverpool and had started the season with 1 win and 2 draws (1985?) In 1996, I was on holiday with a mate and knew I'd miss the first game of the season. I think it was also Souness's first game in charge and I phoned my parents to get the result v Chelsea (?). Nil-nil, I think. I happened to be at the Texas School Book Depositiry at the time - the site of JFK's assassination - and felt slightly secretive and furtive spending $5+ to phone home for a football result and was thinking that if the FBI had bugged the line, it would definitely sound like a code word of some sort. Nowadays, I rely on twitter and the #saintsfc hashtag.
  6. brilliant thread. can't thank you enough for starting it. genius. please do so more often. so incredibly incisive and engaging.
  7. I remember the Thames Valley Royals fiasco (under Robert Maxwell) and, I seem to recall, Fulham Park Rangers too. Solent City seems even more far fetched though!
  8. He will only get better. Or get old and demand a subsidised season ticket at St Marys.
  9. Should I subsidise his seat? If not, who should? Sorry for your dad's situation, but just let me know how we can/should help him - preferably without you being "disgusted".
  10. Was the Italian goal disallowed? Is the best England keeper Butland (flavour of the month about a year ago) or Kelvin (flavour of the month about two years ago?) Please update me!
  11. Not sure Skacel got a cap on our watch, but stand to be corrected...
  12. With everyone get excited about us signing Ronaldo, Messi, Fabregas etc, I notice that no Saints player has ever had a full international cap for Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy, Germany (East/West or United), Spain, Russia or Portugal. (whilst playing at our club - caps before or after don't count) We have had Saints players representing (at least) 25 different countries though. Can you name them?
  13. Jesus. I'm trying to imagine how sh1t Carrow Road's atmosphere must be....
  14. Yep. The world's football community is talking of little else on the twittersphere. And they are all laughing at Saints. Endlessly and remorselessly.
  15. It's possible he agrees. I don't know. But he isn't going to give you a load of cash to prove that he does. Of that, I'm sure.
  16. Best guess: Astori by June 15th. Qualifier#1: Is he in the Italy squad for the Confed Cup? Qualifier#2: The answer to the OP's question has more than a million possible answers, I reckon mine has a 100/1, or tighter, chance of being right though. Which is pretty good!
  17. 5 goals in 24 appearances is a perfectly good return. Not great, but entirely adequate. I agree though that Puncheon has had a truly excellent season.
  18. Actual performance 4/10 - he's had a few good games and has scored an okay-ish number of goals Potential - 8/10 Overall, disappointed so far. But still hold out hope that he'll come good.
  19. Jury still out. Has shown real ability in a hnadful of games. His finishign isn't great, but we bought him as one for the future and I think he has bags of potential.
  20. Can you amend the poll to include Rank Xerox/Ajax reversed/whatever you want to call it?
  21. Neither would I be. Bin a classic badge for a slightly crap modern version of it.... Clever....
  22. It amazes me which threads get locked. And which don't.....
  23. What is Beattie accused of exactly? Being named in someone else's twitter feed? What a total c*nt....
  24. I'm going to persist. It's not transfer fees. It's a playing staff budget. If, for example, we get rid of 15 of our players - on frees - we probably save ourselves £25m of total liabilities (over 2+ years) That doesn't, however, just get added to some fanboy imaginary "transfer pot".
